Day 9 (08 Aug 12) – That Plan is going out of the window

Trip Intro/Index here.

Today’s plan had been to chill around the pool in the morning, then visit Seaworld for the afternoon and evening. This was changed after our visit to Aquatica when we thought we would revisit for the morning, an afternoon shopping and the evening at Seaworld. However, last night we had decided that a lie-in would do us good, so some shopping at DTD and Florida Mall was pencilled in, together with a visit to the Boardwalk in the evening.

So after a “lie-in” until 8:30, we made our way to DTD where we first had breakfast at Wolfgang Puck Express, Marketplace – two omelettes with breakfast potatos plus tea/coffee used 2CS credits and saved us $28. We then visited the Disney Shop where we had a 20% discount before midday from our meal at Village Haus.

And joy for myself – another visit to the Florida Mall!! A quick journey via the 528 and Orange Blossom Trail saw us arriving just after 11, and with only Clinique and Hollister purchases to make, we were back on the road at 11:40, and with a diversion to Walmart on Turkey Lake Road for some more essential groceries, we were back at OKW for 1pm. We had loaded the washing into the car before we left, so we dropped this off in the laundry whilst we returned to our room and changed for a few hours by the pool (whilst keeping an eye on the laundry).

Lunch was had at the Turtle Pond Shack – pizza for Alex, tuna sandwich for Joanne with two ice creams (2CS) plus some nachos and cheese (snack credit) for myself. After a couple of hours gently basting in the sun, back to the room for the unenviable task of ironing – no prizes for guessing that a teenager had nothing to do with this activity!!

Anyhow, we decided to pay a visit to the Boardwalk and World Showcase at EPCOT, as on all previous occasions we had visited, it had been extremely hot – tonight had some cloud cover with a pleasant breeze. We drove over to the Boardwalk, and spent some time mooching around the area before entering EPCOT via the “back door”. We stopped at the Fish & Chip shop in the UK for some food for Alex which she said were really nice – we also had a bag of crisps in lieu of dessert plus a drink using a CS credit.

We then wandered around WS which was extremely pleasant given the breeze. In Norway, we had a ride on Maelstrom which was a first for us – not quite the excitement of the other water rides, but a pleasant way of passing half an hour (including queuing time). We both commented as well on how much quieter EPCOT appeared to be than on our previous visit in 2010, even though then as on this occasion we had used the Busy Days Guide to visit on the recommended “least-busy” days.

We then strolled onto Morocco, where Joanne and myself ate at the Tangierine Café – I had the Moroccan Sliders and Joanne the Lamb Platter, both coming with a slice of Baklava as dessert, plus a water and soft drink, using a further 2 CS credits. We really enjoyed this meal as change from the usual food on offer, and much better than our previous meal at Restaurant Marrakesh, and we were both extremely full.

An extended wander around France was taken to kill some time before Illuminations started. We managed to grab a spot by the railings on the water front at France, and enjoyed the fireworks (although we think the castle lights show and wishes at MK is better), albeit a little worried when an aircraft seemed to be flying right through the fireworks at one stage!!
Once Illuminations was finished, we wound our way back to the car and the Boardwalk, reflecting on an extremely relaxed day and ready for an early start to Typhoon Lagoon tomorrow.
