Day 17 (16 Aug 12) – AK and another Posh Meal

Trip Intro/Index here.

Can’t believe that this is our last full day in Orlando – where did the last 16 days go!!

With the plan well and truly abandoned, today w should have been at MK but are now visiting AK. An early start sees us in the park for just after 9:00, and a quick march to Expedition Everest has FPs secured for 10:10. We ventured on to Killamanjiro Safari, where we had only a 15 minute standby wait, and we saw quite a few more animals at this early time as opposed to our previous midday ride.

Following the ride, we could then get FPs for Khali River Rapids (return time 10:45) before riding Everest. A stop for some drinks/ice creams as it was turning out to be a hot, hot day, before our River Rapids FP time came round. Following the ride, we obtained some more FPs for 11:40, then feeling peckish, we ventured back to Africa for a couple of pastries as we were planning on a late lunch with our 8:55 Narcoossee’s reservation tonight.

A wander around the jungle trek brought us to our return time for River Rapids where we got absolutely soaked, then we ventured to Dinoland for the “spin cycle” (those who have seen Stacey on Disney TV will know what we are talking about!!) on Primeval Whirl – and no, it didn’t dry us out!!!

We then took in the 1:00 Finding Nemo show, after which a quick walk over to Pizzafari for lunch, then into the 2:30 Festival of the Lion King, our last show in Disney this time. It appears that the herd instincts for bad weather had come to the fore – as we were leaving the park at around 3:00, thunder could be heard in the distance, and by the time we reached OKW, rain was falling heavily.

We had originally planned on eating early at Narcoossee’s tonight then using the launch over to Mk to watch the fireworks. However, we had changed our previous 6:30 slot to 8:55 as we reckoned we could do with the time to get the packing done. However, we had finished packing as far as possible by 5:00, so called dining reservations and they could fit us in at 7:10, so it was a case of us all getting spruced up and across to the Grand Floridian.

When we arrived, the receptionist noted we had been before and asked if we wanted the same server – of course we did as he had been fantastic the first time. We were given a seat by the window, and Tom arrived and took drinks orders – I managed to fit in an IPA from a brewery in Georgia (can’t remember the name of the beer but I only had one – honest) and Joanne had a cocktail. For mains, Alex and Joanne had the steak and lobster tail with myself having the filet mignon again – all cooked to perfection. For dessert, Joanne and myself both had the cheese plate and Alex a large ice cream. Again, another unhurried meal, and we didn’t have our bill presented until 9:10.
The plan was then to catch the launch over to MK to view Wishes, the later showing of the Magic, The Memories and You, and the 11:00 Electrical Parade. However, when the launch arrived, we couldn’t get on it so decided to have one last watch of Wishes from the GF. Towards 10, we headed for the boat dock and had our final view of Disney fireworks over the lagoon - always a bit of a downer when we think we will be off back home tomorrow, but also realising how extremely fortunate we are to be able to have had yet another great holiday.
