We are staying at Disney from Dec 5th - 14th but really want to go do some shelling and maybe a beach tour around the Fort Myers/ Sanibel area either before or after DW. Our son will be just over a month away from turning 4 and we were thinking it he would like the shells..... and the tour to see dolphins.

Any great places to stay for 2 nights?

Also, if you have been there around this Dec time, it is even worth going? Too cold?

We were on Sanibel last year from Dec 15 - 22. Had planned a week at Disney the following week but family issues forced us to cancel.

The weather was quite nice. A little windy a couple of days, but generally very hot. We used the beach umbrellas every day.

The restaurants were not busy while we were there, but one server commented that business would really pick up the next week.

We stayed in a timeshare, so I can't help you with lodging suggestions.

I'd gladly go again at that time of year.

Sanibel is pretty far down from Orlando. Not sure I'd want to go for just two nights. Are you flying out of Tampa?

We stayed at the Anchorage Inn three years ago for one night before heading off to Marco Island. They don't have a website but the telephone # is 941-935-9688 (gotta love those MIL's that keep everything!!!).

Definitely not a luxury resort, but it was clean, had a kitchen and they have a variety of accommodations. BIL's family and ours shared a loft cottage, MIL/FIL had a nice 1 bedroom with pull out couch and kitchen.

Weather wise, it was around 60ish. Definitely needed jeans and a long sleeved shirt, but FL in Dec could also be 80+.

Good luck!

I actually live there.
It takes me exactly 3 hours to get to the BW.

I'm not sure if you want to stay right on the island or just off island or on FMB?
Two pretty good values are the Country Inn and Suites and La Quinta on Summerlin just off island.

For weather it can be anything that time of year, but it's generally lovely in the low 70's.

We're headed to Ft Myers and Sanibel in October (My Dad lives there in FM). What's the typical weather temp the 2nd week of October - and do you have any suggestions on a place to eat w/kiddos on Sanibel? Thanks :)

The Island Cow is our favorite. Huge portions and reasonable prices. Food that the kids will eat and yummy stuff for the grownups, too.

Okay, here are some of my favorites. They are very casual. Traders is a bit more upscale.

Weather can be aything, but it's usually still warm (high80's) and breezy.

yes, another good one for kids. Be careful when you park your car there. Giant racoons are all around their back area.
