A perfect week at the Yacht Club-Apr.26-May 2/09 Lots of pics! THE LAST UPDATE!

Sunday April 26: Day 2 continued...
Magic Kingdom Evening

After dinner we decided to head over to Toontown, another “new to us” attraction.

I can't believe we've never seen Mickey and Minnie’s houses!

Is this Mickey’s kitchen or Minnie’s? I can’t image Minnie making such a mess in her kitchen!

Of course we can’t forget about Pluto

We had a bit of time before Wishes, so we tried out a few “new to us” attractions including Snow White, Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan. Sometimes I feel a little silly being an adult going on some of these rides without kids. But when I look at others around me, I see many adults, including seniors going on the rides…so what the heck! Unfortunately Space Mountain was down for renovations, as well as one of our other favourites, The Transit Authority. I have no idea why we like it so much. I think it is because every time we go on it, there hasn’t been a lineup, and we have always been so exhausted from a full day at the park, that it was such a welcome rest and a quiet, scenic little tour through Space Mountain at the same time!

Well, it was time to head over to “our spot” to watch Wishes. We have seen Wishes a few times, and we always manage to get our spot no matter how late we get there! It is on the little pathway that goes along the rights side of the Castle as you are leaving Tomorrowland. It has an iron fence that you can lean on for those of us that can barely stand up anymore from all the walking all day! Tinkerbelle flies right over our head at the start of the show.

Now I wish we had some fantastic photos to share. Tony got a new camera because so many of the pictures from previous trips were pretty bad, especially at night. This camera actually has a setting specifically for fireworks (and aquariums…you’ll se those pictures here soon!) Believe it or not, these pics are actually an improvement on what we usually get!

Wishes1.jpg

Wishes2.jpg

Hmmm, I’m starting to think it’s the user not the camera. In all fairness to Tony, I can’t figure out the camera either! Well, we will just have to return to Disney again in order to get more picture practice. Man. work, work, work!:thumbsup2

Now, we are not parade people. However, in out continuing effort do something new this trip, we decided to stick around for SpectroMagic at 11:00pm. We usually take advantage of parade time by going on all the rides while everyone else is sitting around on curbs for an hour waiting for the parade to start. Silly rabbits! Well, now guess who is sitting around on a curb! Yup, us. I never thought I’d see the day. Right after Wishes, we chose a curb and plopped ourselves down on it for an hour and waited for Spectro to begin. It was starting to get a little chilly and I just had a t-shirt on. (well, and pants too of course! Remember, Tony is the pant less one, not me!) So I contemplated buying a sweater, but I toughed it out. Boy, this curb sitting isn’t easy. My butt was killing me!:headache: LOL! Anyway, as we sat and waited, the cleaning crew was out in full force. It is amazing how they get right out to work right after Wishes to get the parade route cleaned up. They have these giant garbage vacuum type machines, and it was actually pretty intriguing to watch! So, they kept me entertained as we waited!

Quite a few of our pictures didn’t turn out (surprise surprise) But, here are a few that aren’t too bad.

I have to say, we really enjoyed the parade! It was great to have a front row seat…I mean curb, and to have everything passing right by our feet! I’m glad we stuck it out and stayed for the parade, it was worth the wait, the cold, and the sore back and butt!

After the parade we went to see Mickey’s Philharmagic
Donald.jpg

I never really thought much about Donald, but after seeing Mickey’s Philharmagic(it really SHOULD be DONALD’S Philharmagic? I mean really, let’s give credit where credit is due. Poor Donald living in Mickey’s shadow. No wonder he is so short tempered all the time!) Anyway, I really got to like the dude…I mean duck. Hmmm, I think I need a Donald t-shirt!

We also did the Haunted Mansion which was practically walk-on. We then headed to Big Thunder Mountain, which we were both looking forward to. However, it was shut down for some reason. They had a cast member there telling everyone that it should be up and running again in an hour. So we went on Pirates of the Caribbean pirate:
Captain%20Jack.jpg

Next was Jungle Cruise which we have never been on at night. Since there was only a few of us on the boat we got the "behind the scenes" script to the Jungle cruise as opposed to the regular spiel. We return to Big Thunder Mountain, but it was still down. They said to come back in a half hour. It was about 1 am, and we were running out of steam. So, we decided to head back to the Yacht Club. We bought a couple of t-shirts on the way out. With my new found love of Donald, I had to get a shirt in his honor!
Donald%20Shirt.jpg

We headed to the bus and luckily it was already there and we managed to get the last couple of seats. We made it back to the room and it was lights out at 2:30am. Overall, a great first day!

Up next… Marry me, disaster at sea, sicky me

Great update!
Don't worry about being an adult in Fantasyland. It's Disney! My DD (19) and I rode Goofy's Barnstormer just because we could.

Your TR is the first TR I've ever read...I'm really enjoying it! My husband and I stayed at the BC 5/9-5/16. It was a fun trip. We are kid-less 30 somethings that really like Disney. BTW the meatball comments on your thread made me think of the Alec Baldwin SNL skit too!!

Hi fitgirl36! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about Alec Baldwin. I was afraid nobody would understand the reference! LOL!:lmao:

Thanks for reading my trip report! I hope to get another update done by Saturday. Stick around!

Oooo I've always wanted to stay at the Yacht or Beach Club.. loving your trip report so far! Subscribing!

I totally agree with this. I love the Transit Authority and will miss riding it "umpteen" million times during my upcoming trip. BTW - I think your pics of the parade turned out pretty good.

Day 3
Monday April 26

Woke up to the sweet sound of a grass trimmer at 8:00am this morning. We were pretty tired after our late night last night. However we managed to drag ourselves out of bed on time for breakfast. For some strange reason, the Yacht Club does not have a counter service. So, we went over to the Market Place at the Beach Club to get a little breakfast, and a much needed coffee for me.

It was pretty busy over there and neither of us was in the mood to fight the crowd and figure out what they had and where it was. Nonetheless we wandered around a bit and figured out what to have for breakfast. Where are the cups? I NEED a coffee. How can I not find the cups? I finally figured out that you have to ask for cup as you are paying. I forgot about that! So we went to pay for everything and I was told that I can get another bakery item since we are on the dinning plan. Oh, oh ya. I forgot about that. Sheesh, I’m off to a great start this morning aren’t I! So I look over at the line up and realize I have to go through that line up again? So, back over I go to pick a second bakery item. How in the world am I going to eat TWO giant muffins?

So with my second bakery item in hand, I go to get my much needed coffee. Ummm, where is the cream? How can I not find the cream?:confused3 I was looking for the little containers of cream. The cream was in a dispenser. Wow. I REALLY need my coffee. I am s-l-o-w today! :snail:So finally we head out to find somewhere to sit. Where are we supposed to sit? There were just a few tables outside, all of which were taken. So we wandered down the hall a bit and found a nice quiet spot here.

Solarium.jpg

What a nice sunny spot to have breakfast! For some reason this picture reminds me of the Titanic. I think they had an area that looked similar to this in the movie. Perhaps it’s the wood floors. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Well, anyway, Tony had the cheese omelet, an apple juice and a water to save for later. He didn’t like the omelet much.

Cheese%20Omelet%20Croissant.jpg

I had coffee, orange juice, a blueberry muffin and a chocolate croissant. I saved the muffin to eat later.

Pastries.JPG

Today we had planned to go to Hollywood Studios in the afternoon, go to 50’s Prime Time Café for lunch, and stay for extra magic hours in the evening. So after breakfast we decided to take a walk over to the Boardwalk, then over to the Swan and Dolphin just to take a look around.

Tony%20Dolphin.jpg

As we walked into the Swan, we noticed a few people with their nose pressed against the glass looking outside in the solarium. I wonder what is going on over there. So we join the other nosey Parkers to see this!

Wedding2.jpg

Awww, it’s a couple getting their wedding photos done! Look who else showed up dressed in their finest wedding attire

Wedding1.jpg

It was fun to watch the bride and groom dance with Mickey and Minnie as they get their photos taken. It looks like they had a lot of fun. I hope they don’t mind my posting a photo of them, I just couldn’t resist!

After we wandered around for a bit, we walked back over to our room to rest for a bit, grab a drink then get ready to go to Hollywood Studios. We had hoped mousekeeping was finished in our room. We walked back into our room to find it even messier than we had left it! What the heck? I didn’t leave all these towels on the floor? I guess someone had come in and started to remove the towels, but left just before we came in. There was a sign in the room that said if you want to keep your towels, place them over the shower rod. Now, I did want to keep my towels, but I didn’t want to put them over the shower rod. I doubt the top of the shower curtain rod ever gets cleaned, and it probably has mildew on it. So, call me crazy, but I just don’t want to throw my towels up there! So, I hung them up nicely, as opposed to leaving on the floor or in the tub, so they wouldn’t be taken. Well, it turns out they will be replaced even if they are hung up. I feel bad about having them replaced everyday, but, not bad enough to hang them over the shower curtain rod. I can’t believe I just wrote a whole paragraph about towels. I bet you can’t believe you just READ a whole paragraph about towels. So, let’s move on shall we…

We left at about 1:30 to take the boat to Hollywood Studios. Luckily the boat was already there and we walked right on.The next stop was the Swan and Dolphin. As we were leaving the dock, the woman who was steering the boat started hitting a large red button. Then the co-captain started hitting the large red button as we drifted backwards.:sail: The woman radioed for assistance, then told us all to remain seated. The older, perhaps more experienced captain took over. Now, I don’t know anything about boats, we seemed to have power, but no steering. I’m not sure what that large red button did, but we did eventually drift back towards the dock.

Broken%20Boat1.jpg

The woman jumped out to secure us to the dock just as help had arrived. We were asked to get off the boat and wait for the next one. They quickly began working on the engine compartment of the boat. A couple boats went by but they weren’t able to stop and pick us up. Eventually the boat was towed away.

Broken%20Boat2.jpg

All in all, I guess we had to wait about 20 or 30 minutes for another boat to come. Everyone seemed to take it all in stride and wasn’t too concerned about our delay.

Continued in next post...

Day 3
Monday April 26 continued...

Eventually we made it to DHS and headed straight to the Rock’n Rollercoaster for a fast pass. It is one of our favourite rides.

RRC%20Sign.jpg

I will never forget the first time I went on it. I had no idea how fast it takes off in the beginning. It scared me to death. It literally took my breath away!:scared1: I actually had to remind myself to breath. I probably looked like I was about to give birth with all the deep breathing I was doing! So although I am still pretty scared to go on it, I am always glad that I managed to do it! :thumbsup2

Tony’s favourite ride is the Tower of Terror. Now that thing REALLY scares me to death! I have been on it a few times. I just can’t stand the feeling of free falling and rising up out of your seat. The last time I was on it I wanted to cry! I was so scared. But at the same time, I wanted to laugh that it made me want to cry. I am surrounded by little kids that are just fine, and I’m almost in tears. It’s ridiculous. Luckily, I was in the back row again the wall, so I had a handle to hold on to that was on the wall. So that helped me feel a bit more secure. Nonetheless, I screamed like a banshee the whole time. I am sure the people who review the pictures while you are dropping had a good laugh at me. I’m sure I looked ridiculous! When it finally ended, the little boy in front of me said “Is that it?” to which I, without even thinking, screamed an emphatic, “YES!” I couldn’t believe how horrifying the whole thing was for me, and the 8 year old in front of me wasn’t even sure it began! Despite my fear of this ride, I usually end up going on the darn thing again. I just remind myself that I have done this before, it didn’t kill me then, and it won’t kill me now. Plus Tony won’t go on it alone, so I would feel bad that he can’t go on his favourite ride because I am a chicken. However this time, I’m really not sure I want to do this again. It is so darn stressful! LOL!

TOT%20Sign.jpg

We made our way over to 50’s Primetime for lunch. We had a seat on the couch in the lobby…well, living room I guess I should say, and our table was ready within 5 minutes.

PTC%20Waiting%20Area.JPG

PTC%20Decor.JPG

Aunt Deb waited on us and gave us gentle reminders to keep our elbows off the table, and we did what we were told! We ordered our food, then sat and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was funny to watch the kids sitting next to us react to their bossy, loud waitress. They just weren’t sure what to make of her!

It wasn’t long before our order arrived. We started out with sharing a plate of onion rings, Tony had a coke and I had a strawberry milkshake.

PTC%20Onion%20Rings.JPG

PTC%20Strawberry%20Shake.JPG

I had the barbeque chicken sandwich. It was pretty good, but I didn't like the BBQ sauce much...too sweet.

PTC%20Chicken%20Sandwich.JPG

Tony had the fried chicken. He liked the chicken, but he wasn’t thrilled about the potatoes, and certainly didn’t like the “green stuff”. Tony is not a veggie eater, and he definitely won’t eat anything green.

PTC%20Fried%20Chicken.JPG

After the onion rings, milkshake, chicken sandwhich and fries, I was stuffed. The problem with having the dining plan is you feel obligated to eat dessert because you have already paid for it. But I just couldn’t do it this time. So, I just had a couple bites of Tony’s brownie sundae.

PTC%20Brownie%20Sundae.JPG

As he was eating dessert, I was starting to feel, well, yucky. I just had to get out of there and get some fresh air. So I went outside while Tony stayed behind to finish dessert and pay the bill.

I went and sat on a bench outside and hoped my sicky feeling would subside. We decided to go see the Lights,Motor, Action Stunt Show because my stomach just wasn’t ready for Rock’n Roller Coaster. We had a 20 minute wait outside before we could go in and find a seat. It was very hot, there was no shade, and I was really regretting eating the greasy onion rings and the giant milkshake. I felt awful. I was determined not to think about and to try to ignore my churning stomach. We sat in the heat on the backless benches, and I was afraid I was going to be sick. Every now and then a nice breeze would blow through and it made me feel much better.

Stunt1.jpg

Stunt2.jpg

Stunt4.jpg

Stunt5.jpg

Stunt7.jpg

I tried to just enjoy the show, but I was ready to get out of there. I managed to make it through the show, and was glad to get up and walk around.

On the way out we saw the great group “Mulch, Sweat and Cheers. They are a great band that plays mostly 80’s tunes. They are a funny and talents group of guys! Here are a couple link to a video of them on Youtube if you are interested:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TsvQ9dNZKQ&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVH6mTXNHE4&feature=related

We walked by Toy Story Mania to see it had a 90 minute wait. Bah humbug. I don’t think we are ever going to get on that ride. I was still feeling a little queasy and very hot and tired. Waiting 90 minutes in a line up was just not going to happen today. So then Tony decides to see Narnia. Now, boys and girls, let this be a lesson to you to always do your homework. I had no idea what this attraction was. Neither did Tony. We assumed (and you know what they say about assuming) that it would be a nice little sit down in a cool theater in comfy seats kind of attraction. Boy did I need a cool, dark theater to sit and relax, cool down and hopefully my nausea would subside. No such luck. We were stuffed into a small room to watch a video, which is torture when you feel tired and sick and have no way to get out. So, finally it ended. Phew! Glad that’s over! So we head into another room. O.k., so THIS will be the cool, comfy seat area…right? Wrong! It was another video we had to watch standing up, stuffed in there like sardines. It was just a recap of the movie. So, needless to say, we were not impressed.

So, after that, we were both feeling pretty hot and tired. We decided to go back to our room and rest for a bit. It looks like we aren’t going to do Rock’n Rollercoaster or Tower of Terror today. Sorry Tony! So, we rested for a little bit, and I was feeling a bit better. We went out to watch Illuminations(the fireworks part anyway) from the bridge between Beach Club and Boardwalk. Many people had gathered there as well. I decided I wanted to go for a swim in the quiet pool and perhaps have a little soak in the hot tub. Tony’s not a fan of swimming/hot tubbing, so I went down alone. I had the pool to myself while two ducks watched me from the side of the pool. I chatted with them a little bit(yup, I was talking to ducks) I was hoping to get a turn in the hot tub but there were too many people in it, and I don’t particularly enjoy soaking with strangers.

So, that was it for our day. We didn’t get everything accomplished that we had set out to do, but overall, not a bad day despite my nausea for a few hours. We downloaded our pictures from the camera, and got to bed around 12:30am.

Up next: resort hopping, Illuminations, the showdown....

Yes, I CAN believe I read a whole paragraph about towels. I feel the same way, I would totally reuse a towel, but there is NO WAY I'm hanging it on that mildewed shower rod!!!

I have never seen Narnia......and now I know I don't want to! :rotfl: May I recommend the theatre of One Man's Dream the next time you need a break from the sun! Sorry your big lunch at Prime Time, combined with the heat, made you feel so bad. Uck! I hate that feeling.

Hi Mek,

Ahhh, yes! One Man's Dream was EXACTLY what I needed! But we ended up at Narnia instead! :headache: Oh well, I'm sure it would have been ok if I actually liked the movie...and I wasn't feeling sick... and I didn't have so much anxiety over being stuck in there while feeling so sick! Well, live and learn.

By the way, I would have updated again tonight, but I just spent all of my time reading YOUR trip report!:thumbsup2 I had a good laugh over the slide incident. You described it so well!

Thanks again for sticking around to read my report!

Hi Carol! Just found your TR and am joining in. How fun you got to stay at the Yacht Club! We stayed at the Beach Club on our trip in December. It is such a fun area.

I see that you are a substitute teacher looking for a full-time job. I am in the same boat as you are. It is so frustrating...I went to a job fair a few weeks ago and the first thing they told us was how there were 700 people preregistered. All those teachers looking for jobs! Good luck with your search. :thumbsup2

On to more happy stuff, can't wait to read more about your trip!

:rotfl::rotfl:Oh yeah - that slide was vicious! I'm staying at Kidani in a few weeks. I hope I can handle that slide without any major injuries! :rotfl:
Love your TR. Keep you the good work!
