So after our refuel and a bit of time in the shade we wandered towards the ABC theatre, when we got to the main courtyard near the BAH (Big A** Hat) the first of the character greeting sessions were just getting started, we saw Chip and Dale with their girlfriend Clarisse which was interesting, Chip & Dale were hamming it up as usual....
While we were standing there the stars of Cars came out:
Lightning McQueen
and
Mater
They were quite good fun, the eyes moved, they revved up and moved. There was already a lot of Cars merchandise everywhere btw.
So on to the "Stars of the Saga - Star Wars Celebrity Talk Show", we got in to the theatre and were greeted by ... Stormtroopers, who were acting as ushers and having a lively time with banter and jokes:
- Why did Darth Vader cross the Road?
- To get to the Dark Side!
It was really funny; the Star Wars theme music started one of them said "Now that's a catchy tune, I know that from somewhere" and started singing along. They continued in that vein for about 10 minutes until the show started. The show was scripted (of course) but nicely done and it was even interesting for none SW-geeks like me. It was interspersed with some clips of both Rick McCallum (director of the prequels) & Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) at work. It was pretty amazing to see how tall Peter is, and especially looking at how short Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok) is... this is NOT a trick photograph! I think Peter is about 7ft tall!!
It was Peter Mayhew's birthday, so the finale was the audience singing Happy Birthday to him, the hitch was we had to pretend to be Wookies!! That was wierd.
After this we split up, DH wanted to go to one of the next shows about SW and I didn't really want to do it so we arranged to meet for the Tatooine Trivia Trials later. I went off to see what the wait times were, RnR had 40 mins, but ToT was only 20 mins, so off I went, I could walk straight into the library and when we left into the boiler room I saw that the elevator to the right still had 1 space left. So I called to the CM and was ushered up and could go straight into the 5th dimension. It was great as always. I spent some time in the shop, last time I got the slippers and was looking to replace them or get the bathrobe, but somehow it didn't happen. Following that I strolled back down Sunset Avenue and ran into the Streetmosphere characters that were having a joke telling contest, there was some good improv and I sat down and enjoyed it. One of the characters was Norma Desmond, she was very glamourous and her costume was wonderfully made.
Went through the villians shop and found a great T-shirt with a Skull& Crossbones and the motto: The Beatings will Continue Until Moral Improves. I think that one will be one of my souveniers! By now I was feeling in need of a snack, so I quickly went over to the Read the Book to get one of the great cookies that they have there ( I found this out last visit when I was with Rhys & Jessica). Munching contentedly I went over to the theatre again and as I found DH straight away I had to give away half of my cookie
The trivia show was fun and not as hard as I had expected, definitely not the geek level of Millionaire. It was only half an hour so now we had some time to kill before the Hyperspace Hoopla at 7.00 pm. Wandering around we decided to do the Animation tour, the new film with the Animator & Mushu was quite entertaining, it was sad to see the studios as an "exhibition" instead of a place of work. Some of the stuff they had in the last room was like the stuff at DCA, I think they could use a bit more, it's a bit empty. They did have the Incredibles wandering round there so I had my photo taken with Elastigirl. On our way out we found the best bit: The Animation Academy where you can draw a character. We had done this at Disney Quest and it's great fun so we hopped in line and learned to draw Goofy. Going out we learned that you can get into the AA via the shop, so we decided we would definitely come back again.
We still had plenty of time left and were getting hungry, we decided to see if the SciFi was taking walk ups and they were, it would be 10 mins wait but we were seated within 5! This was a bit of disappointment. The atmosphere was great as always, and it's probably the quietest restaurant on property! The food wasn't that good, DH had the ribs and took one bite and went YEUCH! He got the salmon afterwards and that was fine. I had the pasta with shrim and it was tasty but a bit too many flavours which made it heavy. I didn't finish it, but our server thought that she was working at the Prime Time and made me eat one more shrimp! I think the lunch stuff is a lot better, the burgers are great. We were stuffed, as we also had an appetizer as we were on the plan, so we took milkshakes as our desserts and took them to go.
Now it was time for the highlight of the day, the Hyperspace Hoopla. This is a fun show that ends each day of the Star Wars Weekends. All the characters are there and this time they were in the crowd straight away instead of waiting to the finale, so that was really fun. I had an Ewok standing in front of me dancing away.
After this they had a battle of the bands with Mulch, Sweat & Shears vs. the Cantina Band which was very funny. Then they had a dating game where a lucky lady from the audience won a date with Chewbacca (preferring him over a Jawa and Greedo). And then they had a dance, which included the Bounty Hunter Boogie and the Chewy Chill! Just as we had gotten all the moves together and were ready too boogie .... Yep, there they were again, the Stormtroopers: spoiling the fun.....
Well, not really... 'cause the best bit was to come: The Dancing Stormtrooper!!
You have to see it, it is so funny!! Here's a link to the video.
That's the great thing about the Star Wars stuff: it's FUN!!
So that was DH's perfect day!! (now we can get on with the holiday
) Just one more thing, a quick trip to Endor on Star Tours and then we finally said goodbye to MGM for today.
A full day! time for some zzzzzzzzzz!
