Travel day - Thursday May 18th

Our flight left at 12.30 so the alarm was set for the usual time. A quick shower, the last minute stuff, and we're out of the door by 08.45 to catch the 09.00 train; which we miss by a whisker. Instead of waiting for the next express we take the next train and with one change are at the airport at 09.50, 10 minutes later than originally planned. Not bad.
(Side note here, last year we almost missed our plane due to a huge line for passport control, as soon as we had our next trip booked I applied for a Privium card, which uses an Iris scan and means you can bypass passport control)

Thanks to our Privium card we can use the business class check in at United, very nice! We're not seated together so we ask if there are 2 seats together or maybe an upgrade and are told we can purchase an upgrade for 70 Euros -which we do and get seats in Economy Plus and Exit row for the Washington - Orlando leg. This is great as both flights are fully booked!
So by 10.20 we are checked in, upgraded and through passport control, now that's how I like to travel :) First things first, we go to get a new battery for my camera, as the spare I have only lasts an hour or so, then it's off for a bit of breakfast and by then boarding has started.

The flight is fine, bit of turbulence now and then but we make good time. I try to watch Nanny Mc Phee but the video isn't very good so I give up. Later I watch Last Vacation which is better than expected. The meal is as usual Chicken or Pasta, I take the Chicken and DH has the Pasta, mine is really good. Pudding is Ice Cream which I give to DH, he's a happy bunny!
In Washington our luck holds, we waltz through customs, our bag comes of the caroussel the moment we get there and within 20 minutes we are back in the departure lounge for the Washington-Orlando flight. This is a bit late as the plane is late getting in, but the captain expects that we will make up time. Which we do and land just 5 minutes later than planned.

I send DH down to pick up the car while I get our case & go to the restroom. This takes longer than expected and when I get to Alamo he's already signing and initialling. We go on our merry way and I just give the doc a quick check. When I see the price I almost faint! $520!!! I had found a $140 rate on internet, what happened?!!?!?!?! We go back to the desk and apparently DH had agreed to insurance at $30 per day! After a lot of hassle, mainly because we didn't have a copy of our insurance (which I had asked DH to do before we left.....) we got the price down by $150, but it still was not a good start!! There was at least 1 "I told you so" uttered....

We had a mid-size SUV and picked out a nice Jeep, a bit small for just 2 of us + 1 suitcase ;)

and we arrive on WDW property to see the fireworks of Illuminations going off - this is getting to be a tradition ;) We get to the Boardwalk in one go and check in, we have a charming Argentinian CM who, when he hears we're from Holland, immediately starts talking football. We get our package of information & keys and head off to studio 4058. Which is near the elevator and has a great view of the pool. I feel it's a bit larger studio and it has an extra day bed. The only downside is that the balcony is enclosed. But as I've first unpacked and then gone out to enjoy the view, there's no way I'm going to move.

We head off down to the Boardwalk and Big River Grill where DH has his long awaited beer. We share a meal - I have the appetizer and DH a main course - and even then have to take our dessert to go! The only thing we pay for is the beer and the rest is one credit on the dining plan. It is now definitely past our bedtime so it's off to dream of stormtroopers - MGM and Star Wars Weekends tomorrow.

Sounds like a pretty straightforward travelling day, JJ - the best kind.
