A Northern Family's Southern Getaway -Take 2 Jan 2010 PTR Updated 1/15 SNACKS

Great! We always spend a full day at Hollywood Studios. Oh, and we've ordered the burger at dinnertime several times.

YAY for more DHS time!!! :woohoo: And YAY for Sci-Fi dinner. It will be a great day! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the encouragement Ladies! :thumbsup2 I think it will be a great day too! :goodvibes

I am right now trying to come up with a plan for lunch now that we will be eating at SCi Fi for supper! We ate at Pizza Planet last time so we want to try something new. My short List contains the following places - Backlot Express, Fairfax Fare, Starring Rolls amd Studio Catering Co. :surfweb:

Thanks to you Shelly I know not to eat at ABC! Thanks for the heads up! :thumbsup2

Does anybody have any other suggestions or opinions on good places to eat?

My girls are both excellent eaters who actually prefer HOT food rather than sandwiches but are NOT picky AT ALL so will pretty much be happy with just about anything!

Ken likes his food HOT and LARGE portions! He is still determined to eat that ginormous cupcake from Starring rolls however.....;)

I agree with Shelly on the ABC Comm. We used to eat there but it got grosser (is that a word?) and grosser (I'm going to pretend that it is.;)) until we simply refused to eat there anymore.

If you don't want to eat at Pizza Planet, I think I'd suggest Backlot Express. We've been able to find seats there and the food is not too bad. To me, the counter service food at Hollywood Studios is all kind of bleh.

We don't care much for the CS at DHS either. We had some pastries from Starring Rolls - very yummy chocolate croissants, but never ate lunch there. DH and the girls got some food from the place over by the B&TB and Fantasmic theaters. The name escapes me. It was standard burgers, and nuggets, fries etc.

We ate the same burger place...and one of my kids got a turkey leg over at the next little spot over. It was our dinner...it's all kinda boring food, but we did stay a full day! You will have plenty to do..and there is always the funny and crazy Streetmosphere People to watch if you have some down time!

YAY for more time at DHS. We have eaten CS at ABC, Backlot Express and Pizza Planet. This time I am thinking is we go CS we will do Studio Catering Company.

I go my ME mail today - so your's is on it's way!:thumbsup2

What a silly head I am! :upsidedow I just now realized that I didn't subscribe to my own PTR!!! :rotfl: I have been missing all these comments! Oh Dear!

Was it Rosie's All American Cafe? Depending on where we are in the park at the time, this is also one of our alternatives! :)

I am actually getting really excited about all the things we will be able to do and see there! :cool1: I told Ken about the leg lamp and he is now determined to find it! :lmao: The Christmas Story is his fave Christmas movie! I wonder if it will still be there? hmmmm

SCC is also an option, I guess it really will depend on where we are in the park around 11ish! We got our ME stuff yesterday! :yay:

Kim - I forgot to answer your questions about our trip down to FL - Since we left at dinner time - we only stopped about twice that night. We stopped in Tomah WI on I-94. That's about 2 hours from our house. Then we didn't stop again until Belvidere IL at an Oasis (it's pretty nice, has lots of food options and gas station. Then we just kept on driving. The kids were out cold, so we didn't stop. We usually stop at the rest stops on the interstates. I'd have to check on the specific route that we took. We drove around Chicago and into Indiana, turned south and went through Indianapolis, through IN to Louisville, KY, then to Nashville TN, Chattanooga, then into Georgia and down through Atlanta... to FL. I slept through IN and KY. Dave says that he went through the bigger cities at night and that helped him stay awake. The GPS had a different route planned.

I'm uploading pictures to photobucket, so hopefully will have a TR up soon! I'll post the link.

WOW!!! Thanks Sheree! That sounds pretty close the route that I researched on Mapquest! :thumbsup2 I think that if we ever did drive we would definitely do it in 2 days at least, maybe 3. No straight throught the night drives for this family! :) You guys are SO BRAVE!!! :goodvibes

Oh probably more impatient and crazy than brave! My DH did pretty much all the driving - I drove some the morning after the all-nighter. He loves to drive and it is nice and quiet during the night when the kids are sleeping. It's just not too comfortable to sleep in a car! If you have the time and the patience, I would recommend you take 3 days. I just hate driving long trips because I'm so anxious to get there!!

I think it would be so much fun to drive over a few days and see some of the U.S along the way! :thumbsup2 I haven't driven south of Minneapolis! I would love to see what that part of the country looks like! Seeing the scenery change as we get closer to the south would so very interesting! :) Or perhaps I just have an overly romantic idea of what it would be like?:confused3 I hear that Georgia is just really big and boring! ;) My favourite part of our first moments in Florida is seeing Palm Trees! :cool1:

Sadly, a lot of the trip is big and boring!! HA! You could look for some "interesting sites" like a big ball of yarn or something to stop and see! LOL!
Unless I'm going somewhere with a scenic route, like through the rockies or something, I'd just as soon get there quick!

I do like me some tourist attractions! :lmao: Big balls of yarn and large foodare actually interesting to me! ;) What time did you actually arrive at your resort? Oh maybe I should just wait for your TR??? ;) Thanks for all the info Sheree! You are a fount of knowledge my dear!

Well, thank you! I'm glad someone thinks I know something! My kids sure don't seem to! Therefore, you get a sneak peek at my info!
Off the top of my head, I want to say around 8 pm. It was definitely dark out, but it was raining. My notes (in my phone since I forgot a journal) don't specify what time it was. DH thinks that it was 8. So I guess it was 8.

I have a question for you too - how do you set up the title when you update and put the update info in the title? Did you do chapter links at the front end? I suppose I could go look. How does one do that? Can you tell I'm getting ready to start? Still working on a title.

So it took you a little bit more than 24 hrs? That is a LONG HAUL!!! :scared1:

After you do your original post, you can always go back and edit it for updates. Go to your first post in the TR and then click on Edit. The edit screen will come up and then click on advanced edit. You should then be able to edit your title bar!

I did leave space for chapter links but have yet to figure out how to do them! You can use your second post after your introduction and just say something like "saved for chapter links!"

Yeah, and we didn't stop much once the kids fell asleep, so if you drove in daylight, it would probably take longer!

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of some titles, and hope to start before Christmas!

Oh, mercy...titles are killer.... I almost never thought of one for my PTR and then BOOM...I had it!!! Now I am totally stumped!!!! It's ridiculous really...but I am sooo un-creative....I am going nuts trying to think of one...maybe it'll just come to me at some point throughout the day!!! Ha!!!

I am sure you will both come up with excellent titles! I can't wait to hear all about both of those trips! :goodvibes

Shawna, if you think about some of things that may or may not have happened on the trip, how you felt about the trip, some of your favourite parts or not so favourite parts, that might help a little bit! Try scrolling through the TR thread and see if anythere inspires you! :)

We get so giddy when we start seeing palm trees instead of pine trees! It means you're almost there!

I'm starting to think of fun things for the kids for our 16 hour drive in a month- yup, just a month to go! :woohoo:

Sheree and Shawna- Can't wait to read all about your trips!!!
