The priest should have turned to her and said; "I will continue after you finish your conversation".

- cell phones are a pet peeve.

Although:

During my wedding, my elderly aunt arrived late and a cousin escorted her up the aisle to sit in the front with my mother. The priest stopped speaking and just stared. It was mortifying for my poor old aunt - my cousin should have known better - but I think, given her age, the priest was also a little rude - I think he should have overlooked it.

That is beyond rude. I can't imagine someone doing that during such a special occasion, christenings, and weddings.
