Yesterday our granddaughter got Christened. Lovely ceremony - EXCEPT....

the family of the other baby being Christened was beyond rude. Among other things, the Godmother's cell phone rang during the ceremony and she ANSWERED IT AND CARRIED ON A CONVERSATION - while the priest talked, she talked!

Unflippinbelievable.

That is rude. :sad2:

Please say that someone said something to this rude person????

First...congrats!
second... I know what you mean.. rude people irk me ....I hated 'sharing' my DD10 christening. there were 4 babies, and the one family was annoying. they dressed the baby in a outfit fit for a queen. the dress was 5 times the size of the baby.... covered in pearls, lace, and miles of tulle.... they could hardly hold the baby without that dress getting in the way, so we all spent ALOT of time waiting for them to get situated. and then they hired 2 professional photographers....yup 2.... and we all had to stay out of the way of the cameras.... then they wanted to do 'the water thing' a second time, because the videographer didn't catch the right angle!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong.... I have no problem with hiring a photographer/videographer...or a dress that costs over $1500(yup...I heard the aunt talking about it)if that's what they wanted. but shouldn't they have sheduled a private christening then??
That's what we did for our 2nd DD.

Yep, I've got a similar one!

During my FIL small family wedding, while they were exchanging their vows, one of the guests cell phones rang, and she answered it. Who answers a cell phone in church, let alone at a wedding or a christening?

From my seat, it looked like the Godfather was hitting her in the leg, as if to say, "get off the phone you moron". I noticed the priest speaking to the family afterward - I really hope he mentioned it.

Really! Before I even get into somewhere like a church, I make sure to turn mine off - I'd be mortified if it went off in there - and those ringtones ECHO in a massive hulking structure like a church!:scared1:

The priest should have turned to her and said; "I will continue after you finish your conversation".

Our priest is the coolest guy, but he would have (& has) said something :rotfl:

I stopped a house tour while a guest used her cell, yes! we all listened.
This is after a request, pre-tour, that unless guests are emergency personel, we kindly ask they turn off their cells in deference to others

(We do have private tours for those who need close cell contact)

It must have been the weekend of rude cell phone use!!

My 2 DDs and I attended 5:15 Mass on Saturday evening. During the consecration (the most sacred part of the Mass where the priest changes bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus) a young woman (mid 20's) came walking up the center aisle, talking on her cell phone!!!:scared1:
She walked infront of the altar, and sat in the front row, on the side of the church. She still kept talking...
When someone finally told her to get off the phone, she hung up and whipped out a brown paper bag. She proceeded to take out makeup and try different colors out on her hand. Then she reapplied her lip liner. :confused3 It ended up that she was friends with the person doing the readings. Now, even if she wasn't Catholic, she should have known better. It is just a matter of rudeness with some people.

Congrats on the Christening. God bless your granddaughter and the rest of your family.:)

My MIL answered her cell phone during a funeral service. When Dh told her how rude and inappropriate that was she just said "but it was a really important call".
It's all about her...even at a funeral. :sad2:

My priest would have stopped and said "go ahead and talk, we'll all wait until you're done because it is all about you!" A bit brusque, but I think she would have gotten the point!

Congrats to your granddaugther and your family!

Shoot - even if she thought that she was in a theatre watching her friend "performing" she would have been out of line!!

Rudeness seems to be on the rise everywhere! I actually spend a teaching day talking about etiquette!

No doubt, what's next answering a cell phone when someone is in the middle of CPR or a funeral? I'll never understand people like that, what is it? Do they think it makes them look "important"? Are they just excessive blabbers that can never shut up? Someone should look into this phenomenon.

Thanks for all the congratulations. The one and only thing my stepson has ever done right in his life is help conceive this beautiful little girl.:)

Sounds like the family was doing it just out of "tradition" and not for the real reason. It doesn't sound like they care one bit about the promises they had made. Sorry if that sounds kind of harsh.

(Edited to add to post, had to cut it short before.) My mother was annoying me by pestering DH and I to have our son baptized while he was still an infant. She kept saying "God forbid anything happens to him." She doesn't fully understand what baptism is all about and had an unfounded worry.

When we had our DS baptized at 4 months, he was actually asleep :cloud9: . But the best part was when his pacifier was taken out of his mouth. It made such a loud popping sound that had everyone laughing. It was just our son getting baptized that morning. But our church as done two families at once on other occassions.
