A New Campaign Idea

This is sort of a supplement to the flats idea, I guess. There's a lot of us saying that we're cancelling Disney trips that we had planned and going to the competition instead, because the closing of VMK has left a bad taste in our mouths. Here's what I'm planning on doing:

I'm going to tally up how much I would have spent with Disney in the next couple of years. This includes the DVC membership that I've been pushing pretty hard for, that I most likely would have gotten, and that I really don't want now. It also includes the fact that I was in the early stages of trying to get a trip planned for my parents, sisters, son and myself, all of whom play VMK and all of whom are very disappointed with Disney over this. That trip most likely won't happen. There are other things, too, but no need to enumerate all of them here.

I am then going to tally up how much we will be spending on things like an Alaskan cruise or a trip to Universal to see the new Hogwarts land instead.

Somewhere in there, I will account for how much MORE of our money Disney would have gotten if our EIGHT family members had been given the opportunity to pay to play VMK. I will include possible supplementary items such as trading card packs, pin packs, t-shirts and other merchandise.

I am then going to send all of these numbers to Disney Corporate, along with my family's flats and a letter making it extremely clear that the decision to close VMK has disenchanted me to the point that I no longer want to give them all of that money, which will instead be going to their competition.

Realistically, the VMK community taking their business elsewhere may not affect Disney's bottom line all that much. However, we all know how much they like having complete market share, especially when it comes to our vacation dollars. I believe that showing them in black and white that they will be losing some of that market share, however relatively small it may be, will bug 'em. At the very least, it will make them think. :D

Anyone with me? :woohoo:

Well in my letter to them I did say that for the first time we will be taking the disney cruise but will not be staying in a disney resort or going to the parks.

And that we will continue to do this for a very long time. See for me my magic is the characters not the rides I am just as content to see them on the ship. Since disney splits up its money internally it does affect them what I am doing. But yes I think a running tally of what was spend these last 3 years.

Maybe a Mater card commerial park tickets $.00, Hotel stay $.00 Sovenirs $.00

Keeping VMK opeen : Priceless

I did something similar to this by writing directly to Disney Corporation with the $figures$ I spent at Disneyworld since 2002. I also let them know what I would not be spending in 2009. Not because they are closing the game, but because I feel like they have stolen from me by selling me items for codes and now they are taking them away. Without going into all of the details of my letter to them, I basically shared that closing VMK was not only taking away a game but stealing back from us.

Nope, sorry. I respectfully decline.

I'm a DVC member, and VMK closing will not affect my travel choices.
Well, that's clearly obvious by my signature below!

While I've loved playing VMK since beta, it's not the extent of my love of Disney. So no, I won't be joining the bandwagon.

This is a great idea to add to our arsenal. If hundreds (thousands?) of people do this maybe it would get Disney's attention.

No worries, Briar! The idea is to put together a concerted effort with those who do feel like skipping Disney for the next while. I didn't expect that it would be unanimous.

Have a great time on your trip! :woohoo:

Well... unfortunately, I am keeping my Disney trip as planned for next month. If it were up to me, I'd cancel in a heartbeat because for the first time I'm not looking forward to my trip. The magic is completely gone for me. BUT I have 2 kids that are very much looking forward to it and I'm not breaking their hearts because of my own anger towards Disney.

I wrote a similar letter after the annoucement. Just our November trip will cost close to $10,000 for the seven of us.

I totally agree about the Disney rewards. What a scam! We should all get our points back. They have record of people who turned in points for the virtual items. They should all be returned.

I never saw anything on the Disney movie rewards that said the items were only temporary.
