This is our 3rd annual trip to WDW and probably our last in October at least. My 11 year old cousin has a great school with an extended school year that runs August through June. They then get four weeks off during the school year so the kids that are behind can catch up. My cousin is brilliant (I’m not biased at all) so he does not need the extra help. The other students can choose to attend school and do fun activities or take a vacation. Well, this is his last year at this school so we will not have the opportunity to take an October vacation together for a long time.
This year we are traveling October 2nd through October 12th. We are doing a split resort stay since we have three complimentary nights at the Grand Floridian. We are staying there first and then moving to Port Orleans French Quarter for the remainder of your stay. We are on the Dining Plan for the Port Orleans portion of the stay.
I did a Dining Report last year and loved every minute of it. This year my brother plans on coming with us. He came two years ago for our 1st Annual October trip but not last year.
So…..
The Cast of Characters:
Me a.k.a. Sally: I am of course the planner and I do plan! However my brother made some suggestions this trip. I love all kinds of food and am excited to try School Bread.
My Cousin a.k.a. Jack: Jack is my 11 year old cousin. He is a picky eater but loves spicy food, go figure.
My Aunt a.k.a. Minnie: Minnie loves regular food, mostly beef, as I said last year she tolerates chicken.
My Brother a.k.a. Evil Emperor Zurg a.k.a. EEZ: Zurg loves all food and is a Walt Disney World and Land veteran having been to the Parks well over 30 times. He knows Walt Disney World like the back of his hand. EEZ does not want to be on the dining plan, he believes that it takes precious moments away from the park and hates to sit still for the time it takes to eat a table service meal.

I thought I would start off with some snacks:

We love Goofy's Candy Company and the make your own treat, I only got a picture of one treat, the one was with M&M's, peanuts and Butterfingers. I do not recommend the M&M's on your Rice Crispy treat, it was way too sweet! I did not even take more than a few bites!

The other snack and this was a very frequent snack for us was the beignets from the food court at POFQ. These were awesome! How can you not like dough dipped in powdered sugar then fried and then dusted in more powdered sugar. Yum! The sugar rush lasted up until lunch. :rotfl2:

More later including the New School Bread!!!!

Just one review for tonight. It was my first day back to work and boy am I tired.

Peco Bills: We all got the same thing - - Double Cheeseburger & Fries. Every time I go to WDW I say I am not going to get a cheeseburger and I always do and I am almost always disappointed. This burger was OK. The fixings bar made it almost worth my breaking my promise, but not quite.

This trip I really wanted to try some of the items that I learned about on the DIS and Tonga Toast was on the top of my list. Since we were staying at the Grand Floridian we walked over to Poly. It was a great walk and the walk back helped burn all of the calories we ate at The Kona Cafe.

Minnie and I had the Tonga Toast, I had sausage and she had bacon. It was amazing, I knew my fellow disers would not lead me wrong! :worship: I did not use the strawberry or regular syrup, it was perfect without it.

Jack had the omelet which he had them custom make with sausage and cheese and he had a side of sausage. Needless to say he could not finish it all.

Zurg who had said that he did not really eat breakfast went all out and got the Big Kahuna which he declared was really a breakfast made for a King or a Big Kahuna.

We also had the pressed pot coffee which was really good. I am a coffee snob and brought my own Starbucks for coffee in the room, I can not stand the nescafe that they serve at most places with WDW.

The best part of the breakfast was that we were seated next to a really nice Diser and her family. Hi "KeepMovingForward".

More to come!

One quick review today. School Bread! This again like Tonga Toast was a must try. I had heard they changed the recipe so I was I little scared. I asked the CM what she thought about the changes and she stated that the original was better and they made it a lot smaller. Well the new version was everything I expected and more. It was so good that I got it twice on the trip.

More to come.

Pizzzfari, it's like Safari - - get it?

That was our stupid joke most of the time we were in AK.

I was pleasantly surprised by Pizzfari. We wanted to save Flame Tree for later in the week. I love the atmosphere, really bright and fun.

I got the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich. I was able to get a salad instead of a dessert. The chips were out of pocket; I could have used a snack credit but wanted to save them for EPCOT's F&W. The roll fell apart and I gave up on it and ate most of it with a fork and knife.

Jack got pizza and chocolate cake, he enjoyed both.

Minnie got the pizza as well and used a snack credit for her salad. She got the apple pie for dessert and shared a few bites with me. It was really fresh and tasty.

Zurg got the Hot Italian Style Sandwich and the chocolate cake. He said it was really good. He paid out of pocket for the chips.

More later.

Cute review! You've convinced me to try the school bread! :thumbsup2

We had dinner that night at Tusker House. Now I was a little nervous because I am not a big Boma fan and had heard this referred to as "Boma-Lite". I usually like all kinds of food but Boma did not hit a note with me. My brother convinced me to try it and I am glad that I did. It was really good. I steered away from the sweet spicy stuff.

My first plate: I loved the casear salad and the apple walnut salad and the kids corn dogs, I know not too daring but good just the same.

For dessert, baklava and chocolate cake = yum!

Jack went basic also we did make him go back and get some salad and he skipped dessert all together:

Minnie stayed with the basics also:

Zurg was a little more daring with the hummus and such, I did not get a picture of his entree plate:

Overall this was a great meal, our waiter was great, we will be going back.

The next day was Hollywood Studios. I am not very impressed by any of their selections for counter service or sit down so I really did my research. For lunch we choose Backlot Express. I wanted to stay away from burgers and fries everyday so this seemed like the best choice.

Zurg and I got the Grilled Turkey and Cheese, this was served on Whole Grain Bread. This was yummy!

Jack and Minnie got chicken fingers. Minnie was very upset that they did not have ranch dressing to dip them in and did not enjoy them because of it.

Dessert: Cheesecake and a chocolate chip cookie.
