A Moment of Silence for the Toasted Almond Ice Cream Bar

I read an article earlier today stating that Good Humor (apparently now owned by Unilever) was discontinuing production of the Toasted Almond bar. When I was young and the Good Humor truck came around, treats we aspired to included the Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Eclair and the Toasted Almond. Though we usually had trouble coming up with the nickel for the half whammy stick!

When we lived in California, couldn't get them there. When we'd visit NJ every year to visit family (where we're from), my husband would always pick some up from the grocery store. His favorite. When we first moved to the Southeast, I was able to find them and my husband was thrilled. But store by store, for some time now, stopped carrying them. Had the other flavors, but not toasted almond. I don't know if I should give my husband this news.

OH NO! It was my very favorite Ice cream confection. Such a favorite that DD gave them to me for Mother's Day and Christmas several times. Such a bummer.

What a shame. My favorite Good Humor pop was/is the Chocolate Eclair, but I also loved the Toasted Almond. Sales must be down. Are they only available in some regions of the country?

The Toasted Almond Bar has always been a real favorite with our family. We have been actively looking for them at smaller independent grocery stores for the past month or so. It never entered my mind that they would have stopped producing them. How sad. There really isn't any ice cream treat similar.

40 years later (how did that happen????), my DH and I still recite so many lines.

Same situation here. My mom always had ice cream bars in the freezer. She found ice cream truck prices outrageous.
I've been in my house 40 years, an ice cream truck might come on the street once a year. In some neighborhoods the residents chase them off.
Of course, since ice cream trucks are notorious for selling (illegal) things other than ice cream, I can see where some might find them undesireabloe.

Never knew they made an almond version, was it only sold from ice cream trucks? The only ones I see in the grocery store are either strawberry or chocolate and made by a company named Mayfield. Perhaps owned by one of those companies mentioned earlier?
