A Message from Ellen...

I think everyone should post this on there facebooks if they have one post it on everything really

Bullying is out of control these days. I agree with Ellen and I hope it makes a difference.

I am so sad for this young man and his family. Thank you for sharing this Nikki.

Wow, just wow...

Thank you so much for sharing this.
I am a noon duty supervisor at my local elementary school (recess lady) and I help kids work through their conflicts every day. This is quite close to my heart and I am always looking for more tools to help students.

I know we have many many talented educators and parents here.
What are your tips for peaceful conflict resolution?

Here is one I use.
When two athletes are ready to take a swing at each other,
I remind them that when they become a professional athlete there will be moments when another player tries to get in your head and throw you off your game. It will feel just like this moment.
You need to play your best game.
What do you need to do to stay inside your best game?
walk away...
count to ten...
take a deep breath..

come back and play your best game
or
sit on the bench (in the principal's office) for fighting
the choice is yours.

After I introduce the bigger idea once
all I have to ask is
"Is this your best game?"

I like that it recognizes that their feelings are valid and real, but it's what you do next that makes a difference in your life.

It's just too sad...I feel so sorry for the parents.

Jane and Joe Clementi — who work as a nurse and the head of Hawthorne’s department of public works — asked for privacy as their mourn their son.
"We understand that our family’s personal tragedy presents important legal issues for the country as well as for us," the family’s statement said. "Regardless of legal outcomes, our hope is that our family’s personal tragedy will serve as a call for compassion, empathy and human dignity."

Just regular folks, who were undoubtedly so proud of their son.

So, so, so sad! I know from personal experience, that bullying is really horrible. Really, really horrible. What I've learned though, is be the person you want to be, enjoy your life, and whatever anyone else says be damned. My heart goes out to the families of these kids. :(
