A long time ago on a Fantasy far far away...Feb 2016 SWDAS TR, 5/17 CRUISE EPILOGUE - The End!

So I just went back and read your TR from your first cruise last year. That looked like a really fun family trip! I didn't know they had a food tour in Nassau but will definitely check that out next time we go! We did a similar one in Grand Cayman and loved it. DW and I are not "sit at the beach all day" people so walking tours like that really work well for us.

Also...your niece is such a little cutie :)

Thank you! She is a sweetie. We too are not too much of a sit at the beach kinda people. Maybe just on Castaway Cay :)
I like any tours that involve food, although we didn't do any tours on Cozumel or Grand Cayman on this trip. We did get to eat local food though!

Day 2 Part 4: Mixology and the aftermath...

Prior to our cruise, I followed our Cruise Meet forum on the DisBoards and I signed us all up for a mixology event put together by @Adam Music . Thanks Adam! We were all set for a private mixology class on the first sea day at 4pm. I forgot to ask where the mixology was happening and since it was a private event it wasn’t listed on the navigators. I figured it would have to be somewhere in the Europa area but I asked guest services where it was exactly and they confirmed it was at Skyline. So that’s where we headed!

Skyline was where they had the changing scenery and the “jedi” walking around which we were able to see the night before. Although when we walked in for mixology, it was noticeably brighter in the room than at night. The bar area was already set up with glasses and mixers for the drinks we were about to make!

I forgot who our Mixology host was…I want to say…Ashley? I could be making that name up entirely, but he was really nice. We all got seats around the perimeter of the bar while our host explained a little about the format of the class, and the different drinks we’d be making. They all sounded unique and yummy! This is not going to be your basic, “how to make a Long Island Iced Tea” kinda class, each drink was a play on a traditional drink with extra flavors to take it to the next level. I believe we made a total of 5 drinks in this class. Of course, me being a lightweight thought OH NO, it’s formal night in a few hours and I’m gonna get wasted….!!! Forgive me if I miss a few details about the event...probably too drunk to remember!

Our first drink was a take on the Mai Tai, I think he called it a Captain’s Mai Tai. I think the twist was the Captain Morgan’s rum. For each drink our host would demonstrate how to make it and then invite 2-3 people to go behind the bar to make the drinks for our entire group. It was a fun way to get involved without everyone making a mess at the same time. Because we did. Our host show us how to properly shake a cocktail with ice and then pour, so that’s what the volunteers did.

Our next drink was one that DH and I volunteered for, the Caipirinha with a fruity twist. We had to muddle and mash the fruit in the bottom of the glass, add ice, and top it with a strong dose of sugar cane rum. The fruits we had to muddle were limes, mango, and strawberries (I think). We were each given a tall metal “pestle” to muddle the fruit together. It’s actually a lot harder than it looked or else I just have poor upper body strength. The host told me to put a little more shoulder into my muddling, haha.

We each made about 4-5 drinks and passed them out to the rest of the participants before joining everyone else in drinking our fruity creations! My stint as a bartender was over! (FYI, when I was 25 years old I did take a bartending course for fun in NYC, there was no alcohol involved just colored water. I learned how to make simple stuff like whiskey sours, white Russians etc. and, of course a long island ice tea. It was nothing like the fun drinks we prepared in Mixology!)

Our finished drinks!

The Caipirinha was yummy and also strong (notice a pattern here?). But the fruitiness hid the strength of the drink.

We moved on to the sparkling drink of the night which was champagne with what I think was a blood orange puree…or a passion fruit puree, I honestly could not remember because I’ve already had 2 drinks at this point. I also couldn’t remember if it was prosecco or champagne.

Some ladies volunteered behind the bar to open the champagne bottles and fill the flutes. OK 3 drinks down and I’m already beyond what I usually drink in a week…I was looking around for a dump bucket but then realized we were in mixology and not wine tasting…

Our 4th drink was getting into dessert territory, some chocolate syrup was drizzled on the bottom of a martini glass, and then a couple of liquors were poured into the shaker – think maybe kahlua, godiva, vodka…?

This drink was really good but of course, super STRONG. It was definitely rich and chocolate-y though!

Our last drink was actually a shot. The honors go to @adammusic for volunteering for this one. The shot was pretty neat because it was a layered shot with the heavier liquids going in the bottom . You achieve the layers by pouring the different liquors over the back of the spoon, thereby diffusing the pour and letting it float on the layer below. It was really cool!

Great job Adam!

I myself did not finish this shot because I’m not really a shot person and the top layer looked like some sort of moonshine to me. I can’t tell you what was in this shot because I frankly can’t remember anything!

The layered shot!

At this point we are all very happy and very tipsy. There was a happy birthday sung to one of the guests which was really fun. Speaking of the guests, there was this one lady there with her husband, and she and Chunkysis had brought the same wardrobe on the cruise. They would literally run into each other every day and they would say to each other, “I have that dress!!” I think they only wore the same thing on the same day later on in the cruise and I have a picture of it too!
Anyways here's a fun little video of our Mixology class! I may have blurted out "shake weight!" at some point...:rotfl2:

We had a lot of fun at Mixology, and at the price of 20 dollars pp it was definitely worth it for 5 drinks! The size of the drinks were a little smaller than an actual cocktail but they were strong! I highly recommend it for an adult activity!

Although making it back to our room took a little longer than usual. :rotfl: We only have to go up 2 flights of stairs and walk midship. For some reason (haha), it seemed to take forever! On the way up, barely 4 steps up, we bumped into none other than Buckets and Boards! They made fun of us on the staircase. I told them we just had mixology! They joked about how we should just run up and down the stairs. Chunkysis was not having any of that! In fact, she desperately wanted to take the elevator, and it took her forever to climb one flight of stairs! In the end, she walked up one flight then took the elevator ONE FLOOR. I kid you not. Anyways, enjoy this really funny video I call: MIXOLOGY AFTERMATH. You can even hear @Adam Music laughing at us in the background! "What are you doing?!?"

It cracks me up. :lmao:

We did make it back to the stateroom eventually, and we found DH already there. He had ordered room service as a snack, something I really wanted to do on the cruise. What did we order? The All Hands on Deck cheese platter and a salad. It was yummy and hit the spot to tide us over before dinner!

At this point it was around 5:30pm and we only had a bit of time before the Aladdin show was supposed to be on! Plus we had to get ready for formal night!! Do we make it? Stay tuned...

OMG hilarious!!! Loved the aftermath video!!! I would be in the same boat though as I dont drink except maybe once a year but this looks tempting for only $20!

Gorsh, Goofy cleans up good :goofy:

He does! All the characters looked real spiffy in their formal wear!

mmmmmm.....cheese to soak up the booze....you are MY kind of people :worship::worship:

Haha thanks! I would have eaten much more but we didn't want to be late to watch Aladdin!

Hilarious! Love the mixology update!

Haha thanks!!

Loving your TR! So fun to follow along with you!

Thank you!!! Thanks for reading!

Thank you!! Haha, we sure had a good time! I'm not sure if the Mixology is regularly 20, I think it's 25 in the Navigator. Because we had a private group session they could have knocked the price down a bit, we also had quite a few people in the group. But still, 25 is awesome for 5 cocktails which would normally go for about 15 bucks a pop!

Oh man, how did I miss all these updates! Obviously the alerts don't work right a lot of the time :/ But everything looks fabulous! The ship is gorgeous, and Remy looks like a really sophisticated and delicious meal. It's on my list for the eventual time that we do a cruise, assuming it's still a thing. I love all the decor that's Remy themed too! So cute :)

Looks like that mixology course is definitely worth the money, and I love seeing all the different food options on the ship - that cheese plate looks wonderful, as does the soft serve ice cream :P

As I told my husband, the bad thing about reading cruise trip reports is that now I want to go on one ASAP! But I'll be happy with my 62 days until Disney World for now :)

Hooray!! I am finally all caught up thanks to a very slow morning at work. It looks like a lot of fun so far and i can't wait to hear more about your trip. I eagerly await the pics of your final Star Wars costumes. Not to mention all the food!! I swear, every time I read your TRs i get super hungry. I can't wait for more. Later.

Hello!! I'm a long time lurker of your TR's (mostly due to the fact that I've only discovered them a few months ago), but I had to come out of the shadows to say this cruise looks AWESOME! I love reading your TR's, and it looks like we share lots of the same interests, good food, star wars, and of course all things Disney! I will be showing your TR to my hubby tonight to convince him we need to do one of the SWDAS 2017 cruises they just released! We were planning a trip to WDW next spring because WrestleMania (it's like the Super Bowl for WWE wrestling fans like my hubby--NOT me, lol) is going to be in Orlando on April 2nd 2017. But, one of the Eastern Caribbean SWDAS cruises returns on April 1st, so that would be perfect timing to cruise before then stay in Orlando for the event.

The rainforest room looks so relaxing, I could sit on those loungers all day! And, my Remy looks outstanding, I was practically drooling over your #yolkporn!! Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip!

That aftermath video is classic! I almost never drink so I think it would have been worse if we'd have done that. You're brave for getting it all on video :)

Oh my goodness, I loved hearing about your Mixology class and watching the aftermath video - cracked me up, mostly because I know exactly how you were all feeling! :goodvibes

I've heard that all Mixology classes are different and I can see that from your review, but they have in common: lots of yummy drinks, lots of laughs, and some silly folks stumbling out afterwards.

Many of us had to go pick up our kids, pretending we were just fine, and try not to tip over in the process. o_O

Hiii! Yeah I know about the alerts...I always miss out on them too. Hope it's just a temporary glitch. Remy was delicious! I highly recommend it.

Omg the ice cream was so good I had one every day. It's so dangerous that it's unlimited! I really enjoyed all the dining options on board. There was food everywhere!

As I told my husband, the bad thing about reading cruise trip reports is that now I want to go on one ASAP! But I'll be happy with my 62 days until Disney World for now :)

Haha, you'll go on one eventually! I never thought I'd go on one until last year and now I'm hooked! I'm only gonna cruise with DCL! Your trip sounds wonderful! You're gonna have so much fun!

LOL, I'm glad I inspired your appetite! I really could use some Disney soft serve ice cream right now!

Loved the aftermath video. I def wanna do the mixology class

Thanks! It was a fun time!!

Hii!! Thanks for reading! I really appreciate it! I'll have to let me friend know about wrestlemania, he's into that. He's not a Disney fan but he is a Star Wars fan, maybe he'd like DHS with the Launch Bay and stuff.
I've been toying with the idea of going on the Eastern Caribbean! But I know that we'd rather go someplace else than the caribbean for our next cruise. Hawaii, Europe, and Alaska, are all on the bucket list. :)
Sounds like you have a good plan!!

The rainforest room looks so relaxing, I could sit on those loungers all day! And, my Remy looks outstanding, I was practically drooling over your #yolkporn!! Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip!

Everything that we've done so far has been great, especially the Rainforest Room!

That aftermath video is classic! I almost never drink so I think it would have been worse if we'd have done that. You're brave for getting it all on video :)

Haha, thanks! I tried to do something funny and see how we'd act after the Mixology so I recorded it. I thought we'd be sloppier and falling all over the place...although I think we were close to that!

LOVE the aftermath video! My sister and I along with a friend we made on the cruise had the same struggles on that set of steps after our Mixology. I blame it on DCL... they must have a way to make those steps move that we don't know about!

LOL I know, I'm such a lightweight. There were folks who didn't even feel a thing after 5 drinks. I am not one of them!
