A little tip for those of you who eat at Pecos Bill's

I like to sit outside and feed the birds at Pecos Bills. Yeah, some folks dont like birds, but I think the big black birds are so cool. I know the castmembers frown upon you feeding them, but I imagine thats probably mostly because some people try to feed them messy foods and it makes it a messy walkway, which really is unsanitary. As long as you stick with small pieces of dry foods (no cheese sauce!!!) like bread and french fries, theres no mess. The birds have to eat too.

The birds are so agressive they will pull food from guest's hands -- even while the guests are walking. We have seen this.
The Pirates food count area has been open for lunch recently. So the extra seating may or may not be there.
I have eaten at Pecos Bill's when even the area being discussed is packed.
So that is another thing that may or may not work out.
At Main St Bakery we sit around the corner at the outside by the Plaza. That restaurant is not open and there are more often than not free spaces. Although I have seen times when that is all taken too.

Once we saw a man walking quite a bit behind his family, leisurely taking in the sights around Splash Mountain. He was holding a hot dog/bun and looking around.
We were right behind him as a seagull hoovered over him, plopped down and stole his food right out of the his hand, flew off, and only left the man holding a napkin!
He yelled something to his wife. She turned around and yelled -- How could you eat that hot dog so fast!?
He explained what happened and I am not sure she believed him.
Now if birds stole beers, people REALLY would have an excuse!

For some reason this just came to me and I thought I'd share it with you all...

If you happen to have lunch at Pecos Bill's in Frontierland, and the place happens to be jam packed full of peope and you can't find a place to sit; remember this little tip.

Head to where the bathrooms are, and keep walking forward. At the end of the hallway there is more seating on the Adventureland side, and usually, there's no body there!

I've done this everytime I've eaten at PB's for the last few years and have enjoyed a nice peaceful lunch. I thought I'd share this with you all so maybe I'd run into a few more of you "green ear" folks in Sept!

Just be aware that unfortunately, this doesn't always work. We were in Pecos Bills in May at a very busy time. I figured I'd use this little tip and impress DH (who's always making fun of my "DIS" obsession). But unfortunately there was a rope up and a CM there to keep out (in case anyone got the idea of ducking under or climbing over the rope).

I'd have LOVED to have seen that!!!
I have seen them perch up on people's stroller handles and suck the french fries out of the cup holder. Ive then (on one occasion) saw the owner return to his stroller and pick the fries up and resume eating... never a clue!

Yes birds have to eat but feeding them french fries is not a good idea. THat is why they are so agressive abd why CM's frown on feeding them. It is not because of messy food.

I lived in Clearwater FL for several years and seagulls are known as flying rats. The locals could tell the tourists because they are the "dingbats feeding the birds". Tourists thought it was great fun but in acutallity it is not a smart thing to do. Have you ever seen a 4 year old attacked by a bird because the kid wouldn't give up its french fries. I have. A father was feeding the birds from a kids Frnech fry cup and the birds swarmed him. He couldn't feed thme fast enough so they went to the source of the food. The dad was furious and blamed the birds - even after seveal locals explanined to him why the birds did what they did. The kid ended up at the ER.

Birds have an inate abilty to find food that is healthy for them. Humans do not need to feed them.By feeding them you take somthing instinctive away from them and condition thme to come to humans as a source of food.

Thank you for explaining this. I could not have said it better!!! This is why it is impossible to even walk through Frontierland. YUK. So STOP FEEDING THE BIRDS.


Sorry Sonno, but this had to be said. If I ever get up the nerve to eat at PB again--beyond the bird dodging--I will take your advice on the seating. Thanks and maybe I will see ya there.

Its not good for you to eat the junk you probably eat either, but you do. Ever eaten a twinkie? Little Debbie snack? How about sprinkles on a ice cream? Those colors are dyes, and dyes are basically petroleum. I know because many autistic children cant have dyes, including my son. OK point made. That french fry is POTATO. Potato is still a vegetable!!! Birds eat vegetables. That twinkie is worse for you than that french fry is for them. People attack others for feeding birds because they dont like birds, (or they dont like them around) not because its wrong. Theres nothing wrong with feeding birds. Just watch them around your children and use a little common sence.

I don't think anyone is overly concerned about their diet, but rather how by feeding them you are encouraging more aggressive behavior (such as the events mentioned above).

Wow. This thread certainly took an unexpected turn, but that's ok.

I do wish to add my plea.............please don't feed the birds. It doesn't matter what it is.....please don't feed them. There are even signs at Casey's to tell people not to.........it made it almost impossible to eat a meal outside there.
