Went to the wedding reception of my boss's daughter last night. We are friends and I help her in her Sign Shop next door to my office every day.

Sat down at the reception and noticed the Hershey Candy Bars that she had on the tables had wrappers with their names and date of July 4, 2002!!!! Everyone thought the lady that made them for her got the date wrong. Well to our surprise when they were announced and coming in to the reception they said they had gotten married on July 4th!!!

They had a really small ceremony for just family yesterday before the reception and when they came to the part where they were to say the I do's the preacher said they are going to reaffirm their vows previously taken. The night before at the rehearsal they went through the whole ceremony like they were getting married. Her mother just about flipped out. Her mom is the type of person that has to know everything about anything ( which is probably the reason they did it that way) and was just about crazy and wanted to know who all knew about it before. His Mom was going nuts telling him that her blood pressure was up to over 240 now.

I helped her with all the invites and wedding plans and never suspected a thing. The only ones that knew were her and her new husband!!!! She said it was the hardest secret she ever kept.

I couldn't believe it and am still in shock!!!!

LOL! Her mom will NEVER forget to remind them of this. She'll probably mention it atleast once a day for the rest of their life. LOL! Sounds like something I would do.:teeth:

That would be a shock to everyone. How come they got married a month before they were supposed to and kept it secret?

Browneyes - I am sure her Mom will never let them forget it!!! She came straight for me at the reception and asked if I knew about it!!! I said I didn't have a clue.

Baboo - I'm not sure exactly why they did it, but I would guess it has a lot to do with how controlling her mother is.

LOL - that's pretty funny! The look on her face must have been priceless!

I guess that's one way to take the stress out of your wedding day. ;)

I'm glad that my mom and I are such good friends (and my dad) that I would never have to do something like that! I couldn't imagine getting married without having them there!

Maybe the've been watching too much "7th Heaven"? They just had a story line where Matt got married while planning his wedding and they didn't tell anyone.

LOL. I have heard of people doing this to remove some of the pressure from the day and for them to just sit back and enjoy it without worrying about the marriage details themselves.

Also sounds like what Michael did in the "For Better or For Worse" comic strip -- he and Deanna got married in secret while her controlling mother planned the big wedding. Of course, it seems like everyone knows about it EXCEPT the mother. :teeth:

I can understand why a couple would do that, but they should have told their families privately ahead of time.

That must have been hard keeping that secret. I've had problems not telling people I was pregnant for a few weeks. I can't imagine not telling people I was married.

My friend's sister did something similar. They were married secretly over seven months before the public wedding. They never did tell their parents to my knowledge. It changed the way I thought about her. :(

Haha! That is so cool!! If I was feeling the pressure of a big wedding and had a very controling mother, I would want to do that too.
:teeth:

My second cousin's daughter got married on a cruise and had a reception a month or two later at home. They played a video of the ceremony before they entered the hall. The invitation read something like "x and x invite you to celebrate their children's return from their recent marriage on the island of xxx". The couple already had a 2 or 3 year old daughter, the bride wore the traditional white dress and they had a regular wedding reception like they were married that day.

I guess I should state my mom isn't controlling. She has just learned to expect the unexpected from her only daughter.:p

For that couple's sake, I hope they live far, far away from the bride's mom!

DH and I got married 4 months before our wedding.

There are a million reasons why we did it, and we kept our private ceremony a secret, even to our families. The only person that knew was my uncle, who performed the ceremony.

LOL. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if DS and DIL announced this at their wedding next weekend. :p

I they did, I would just think it was cool they were married and still had a great day getting married in front of friends and family and have a fun reception. :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Would't bother me at all. Blood pressure would raise with happiness as long as they were married and together. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

LOL! Good for them! :teeth: Nothing is worse than meddling moms.
