So we have been DVC owners for a year now.
Since then, 2 trips to Disney, and 1 more scheduled as DVC
Have stayed at
VWL
SSR

Scheduled this year
SSR, possibly moving to AKV

I know we will need to add on in the forseeable future, so I am trying to figure out where that will be. I didn't know the unwritten rule of buy where you want to stay when we bought. The guide didn't make it sound like it would be difficult to get to another resort in 7 months.

So I am trying as many of them as I can before I addon.
What a shame... I will have to spend some more time at WDW:rotfl:
Maybe I should convince DH to do a split stay to try out two at a time...
Hmmmmm

Have fun doing your research. That's what we did, and we've ended up with 5 home resorts. BLT may be added to the mix pretty soon, we're thinking about it.

Oh no! Not FIVE! My bank account is not liking that idea!

Don't worry:scared1:you may not get it that bad!!! We're the DGP so our family has grown lots since we've first bought into DVC. We enjoy our home away from home vacations with the extended family.

From what i've seen, is that unless you want to go during peak DVC times, you shouldn't have any problems getting the resort you want with a little planning.

A couple of tips:

Always book your home resort as soon as you can to make sure you have some place to stay
Always call at the 7 months mark to switch.
DO the waitlist if what you want isn't available.

I don't have a lot of experience as i'm still a newish member. But from everything i've seen is that it's not really that hard to get the resort you want with planning. I've been able to book at every resort i've wanted so far without a problem. I've only had to wait list one thing: MK view at BLT...but i'm feeling pretty confident that i'll get the wait list. I still have a LV room there already.

There will be a couple of exceptions and that will be the "rare" room types at certain resorts: Concierge and Value rooms at AKV. MK view at BLT. HH location at OKW. Boardwalk view at BWV. WL during christmas time.

From a cost standpoint SSR is likely to be the cheapest option overall resale. If cost is not as much an issue as geting difficult availability, just consider what is most difficult to book that fits in to your situation. Things like HH summer, VB Beachhouse, BLT MK view, BWV BW view, AKV concierge, etc. Off times and lessor demand resorts, you don't need the own resorts at those resorts. Still, I wouldn't spread myself too thin.

I loved loved loved VWl in Sept. So far it is my absolute fave. I would love to see it at Christmas, but I can always just pop in for a visit!

In the 2 years that we have been DVC members, we've stayed at AKV-concierge, BWV-boardwalk view, SSR, OKW, and next month we will make our first trip to Vero Beach. That's not too bad for only having points at one home resort-AKV. Now we did finally do an add-on but its for VGC not for another WDW property. I'm sure that we'll get to the BCV,VWL, and BLT over the next few years.
