Our friends returned this week from Universal. They reported about having The Mummy ride break down while they were in the room with flames shooting over their heads. The room kept shooting flames and it got hotter and hotter. They were pinned in the coaster with no way to get out. It took quite some time for the rescue team to come evacuate them.

Why doesn't Universal have a shut off button in these situations for the pyro? :confused3 The rescue team said that it was the most dangerous room on the ride to be stuck in.

I will ride on our next trip but I guarantee I will be holding my breath through that room! :scared1:

EDIT: I CHECKED WITH MY FRIENDS AND THE FLAMES DID STOP WHEN THE RIDE DID. JUST REALLY REALLY HOT.

Wow! We rode the Mummy 3 times last week and had no problems. That would be so creepy to get stuck in that room. It gets hot in that are during the normal course of the ride I am so glad no one got hurt.

wow, i wonder what happened to make the ride stop.

it's such a fast ride i can't imagine it just stopping in mid ride, especially in the flame room....

I've been stuck in that room with no pyro. Hmmmmmmm.

Your friends may be exaggerating somewhat. The flames do shut-off if the ride is stuck. They do not keep burning. But even with the flames off, that room gets darn hot.

I hope that you are right! I will ask them specifically next time I see them.....

My son opened that ride for the grand opening and worked there for a few years. I know that ride inside and out but I did double check with him and he assured me that the flames can not continue to flare up. He's also had to do some evacuation from that spot on the ride when they had technical difficulties. He said that room is always hot like a sauna even without the flames.

IWe have been stuck in the room just before the launch for 5min.All effects were turned off.Kinda creepy sitting in the dark that long tho!!

That's happened to me too and you're right...it's creepier w/o the effects.

Ok, I double checked and you are all correct, the flames DID turn off. Still, she said it felt like an oven. I think that they were one step from a full blown panic.

Sorry for the rumor starting!!

No need to apologize. It's always fun to hear about different experiences on the ride. It give us something to talk about. I was just worried that your friend would swear that the flames were on the whole time and then we'd all be telling you that's not how it works. Then we'd be accused of calling your friend a liar and the arguing back and forth would begin. :lmao:

I'm glad to see we have a happy ending and we're all still friends. :lovestruc

But your friend is right--it is super hot in that room.

That room can also be extremely COLD. Yes, cold.

Only a few people can actually say that and understand it.

DM, are you going to start with that ghost story again? That ghost already moved to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride when Kong closed. Disney recruited him and renamed him "George."

:lmao:

No no no. If the flame effects are not working and the gas is shut off, that room is very COLD. Especially when you have to be up there for a few hours watching for faults.... :rolleyes1

well next time the ride stops with the flames on, i would like mine done medium rare:confused3

I was stuck in every room on the Mummy Thursday night for about 1 minute per room. It started from the Mummy room, then at the beetle room, the turntable, then last the fire room. It was kind of cool.:thumbsup2 Then the night before we were on Popeye and just after Me ship Me Olive we got held there for about 5 minutes , then all the water stopped, then all the water ran out. After about 15 minutes some TM's came, got us out of the raft, and walked us around and out to safety.
