Hi, I'd like to write to WDW and VERY FRIENDLY ask if there is a chance for Canadians to receive some sort of incentive to return to WDW and spend more of our Canadian funds!

We purchased the special 7 day hopper Canadian pass and that saved a couple hundred, but still, we ended up spending about $300.00 Canadian per night at the CBR and over $90.00 for one dinner at Crystal Palace (2 adults, one child and a baby {he's free})

I will write a nice letter, not a petition. What do you think? Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas ~ want to help me write it?

BTW ~ if this request for your help to write a nice letter goes against the boards, please let me know and I'll delete the message.

I just think that our dollar is so bad now that it wouldn't hurt to ask WDW to visit the idea of giving us a break. It's a pure business idea ~ the break we get might get more Canadian's to WDW to spend more $$$$.

The question is: Who are you actually going to send it too, and don't you think that it would be a wonderful idea if we all helped you out, then you would have some people to back up your request. I would love to help you in writing the request - I just have to warn you that I might not be all that helpful. I hope that others will join in the writing. It is difficult to travel down to WDW because of the $$$. If you save up only $5000, you only really have $3600, making this a difficult holiday to save up for - especially a student. It's funny how the slogan for WDW is The happiest place on earth. It sure doesn't make you feel too happy when you get that first credit card bill, does it???

Anyways, Good luck, and let me know if you need anything. My computer has been down for 2 weeks, and just found out yesterday that the parts needed to replace it are going to take up to 6 weeks to get, so needless to say, I have no e-mail, so I can only do any discussions on this board when I have the time in school or at my local library.

So, everyone else, what do you think???

Thank you Joline!

If everyone could give me a couple money saving ideas to pass on to WDW, I will put together the letter and post it for all to read first!

If you would like to add your name with mine, I would be pleased to do so.

I will likely send the letter to Micheal Eisner and cc several WDW dept's.

I was thinking that asking AT PAR for resorts was too much to ask, but AT PAR for tickets or even just the AP would be fair.

I am playing with a resort discount for Canadians. Maybe a 25% discount is fair. That's kind of like sharing the exchange rate. We paid 1.58 exchange!

My in-laws were in California a couple years ago and went to the San Diego Zoo. The ticket taker over heard my father-in-law say he's Canadian and she gave him an AT PAR rate. Father-in-law didn't know about the AT PAR rate, cool eh?

What do you think?

I think the at par is a wonderful idea. Those tickets cost sometimes more than our airfare!!! I believe that that is a fair thing to ask for. You could mention that their "competition" Universal Studios and Sea World both now offer at par (I believe US does, I thought I read that you could get at par at the gate). Also, in some states, you don't have to pay the taxes down there if you prove you are not american.

How about discount codes on rooms for canadians?? They offer so many to so many states down there, but I never seem to see any for Canada.

Disney has to realize that they have so many fans north of the border and they are struggling to get down there more often. I hope that you letter pans out, and yes, I would love it if my name could be added.

Well, times up for me on my computer today.

I will talk to you all tomorow.

SandraC, I think this is a fabulous idea, I think a few discounts would go a long way!! Some of my ideas are: 1) buy one get one half price- but at anytime of the year, 2) tickets at par, 3) resort discounts of some type, I agree that a code for Canadians would be a awesome idea!! 3) A discount for character breakfast- or at par and lastly 4) Some type of discount on merchandise- even 10 to 15 % !! Of course I would hope for some type of ticket or resort deal, let me know if I can help, you can also use my name on your letter!! We are planning on returning to wdw for our second trip in October of 2002 and it would be fabulous if we could save a few dollars or at least stretch them!! Hi Sandra, I think this is an excellent idea. I was able to make use of a code for my upcoming July stay, but the Americans seem to get a lot more choices. I definitely think a Canadian code would be great. In March we got the "at par" Universal tickets that never expire and Sea World "at par" tickets. It would be nice if Disney were to offer us some type of discounted tickets that don't expire too. The ticket promotion that Disney has on now is far too limiting. The Universal tickets are still available to buy judging from some tour brochures I've been reading, so this has been a fairly long running promotion. So, if U can do this why can't Disney? Food is a major expense too, and any help here would be appreciated as well.

I'd be glad to help you write the letter also, and you can add my name to it, too. :)

Hi Sandra,
You could certainly add my name to a letter to be sent to the ' powers that be ' at WDW re a special discount rate for Canadians. I know with the dollar the way it is now I also tend to want to watch the pennies ( though I don't always make a good job of it and will go overboard at times- but we don't have to tell them that!). Good Luck with your efforts! If there is anything I can do to help you out with this, please let me know...

Dear Sandra:

I think your idea is outstanding and way overdue. Danny and I went to Disney World in Jan. 2000. One 7day hopper pass ended up costing MORE than both our airfares put together. We had saved up for almost 9 years to be able to go. DH and I hadn't had a vacation in 11 years by that time. It was also the first time we were able to do anything alone as our kids had all grown and moved. (SIGH) I desperately wanted to stay on the property, but, alas, we couldn't swing the expense. You can add our names and anything else you may need. Blood, perhaps:jester: to your letter. If it is feasable, perhaps doing up some sort of Canadian Petition and posting it here for all of us to sign and then having it printed out and sent might be something to consider. If I can be of any help with anything, please let me know.

Hi Sandra! Maybe you could bring it to the GTA and NF DIS meets, and we could all sign it there.

This a great idea. As the US economy is in a slump and
Disney is laying off employees in answer to that slump,
maybe they would listen to drawing others to the parks.
In January 2000 hubby and I got tickets through CAA
buy one get the other at half price. Takes the sting out
a bit and leaves more money to spend on souvenirs.
Count me in

You can count me in. In 1995 they offered Canadians tickets at par. I would love that offer again. Especially since we are hoping to have a group of 14 of us going next spring. Maybe you could draft a letter that each person could print out and sign and then send individually. It might make a bigger impact if they started receiving a lot of mail from Canadains.

Hi all, thanks for all your replies! I will work on the letter this week.

I agree with the poster who said Disney should get LOTS of letters from us!

For every ONE letter they get, they must know that represents at least 1000 people who don't write.

Here's incentive enough for them:

I went to Orlando for a week in Feb of this year. I would have loved to take my daughter and her friend to Disney BUT....Disney did not want my money bad enough.

Instead I spent all of my hard earned Canadian dollars at SeaWorld (2 days), Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure (3 days). In return for the AT PAR admission break ALL of these parks offered us, we spent all of our hard earned canuck bucks on souveniers and food at these parks.

So...sorry Disney!....there's a few thousand dollars you missed out on :( Your loss. Not mine.

And SeaWorld, USF and IoA.....you have Disney to thank for the profits you made off of my business. Because if Disney had offered ME an at par deal, I would have stayed on-site and spent my entire vacation budget exclusively at WDW.

C'est la vie!
