DH and I decided upon two goals to ring in our Independence Day this year; visit the Hall of Presidents, and eat at Liberty Tree Tavern. We're not very original!

We'd only eaten at LTT for dinner, not lunch, and since lunch seems to be much more popular here on the DiS I was pretty excited!

But first...our recent prerequisite snack:

The Mickey Premium Ice-cream Bar! I'm sure we'll get sick of these eventually. Well...possibly. Perhaps. Anyway, even though it was sort of disgustingly early for ice cream when we ate this, it was creamy, crunchy deliciousness! :thumbsup2

Anyway! I kind of expected Liberty Tree Tavern to be a madhouse on this of all days, but we checked in to a relatively calm atmosphere and were led to the Betsy Ross room. DH said we'd have to sew a few flags to pay for our meal.

We ordered our drinks and I do so love their mugs! I was tempted to buy one, but I have a terrible track record with glassware from Disney.

DH was starving and eyed the appetizers. He'd seen pictures of the Tavern Fried Cheese here on the DiS and was going to order that, but when I told him that they removed the curds and it was just regular ol' mozzarella cheesesticks, he changed his mind and picked the clam chowder instead:

I'm not a fan of clams or clam chowder, but I tried a spoon of this and it was super rich, creamy, and pretty tasty. DH LOVED it.

When our server cleared DH's empty soup bowl and told us our entrees would be right out, I inquired about rolls, only because I'd loved them so much last time. She said they're really only served at dinner, but she would see if they had any. I wouldn't have found that surprising at all, if not for the fact that ALL the tables around us...had rolls. So it definitely seemed like they had them! Sure enough, she came back in a few minutes with a basket of piping hot goodness. That was an odd exchange!

But, well worth it! I know, I know, I'm going to be mocked for my love of these and someone will surely tell me they're "just frozen rolls" but they're warm, soft, and have a slight honey sweetness to them that I love. So pfffbt.

For his entree, DH chose this:

"New England Pot Roast... Our Tavern Keeper's Favorite - braised beef in a cabernet wine and mushroom sauce served with mashed potatoes and garden vegetables"

This looked delicious when it was brought out, but for some reason I had to prod him to really get a reaction to it. I think he enjoyed it, but not as much as he thought he would. The beef was super, super tender and well-seasoned, and it was a pretty heart portion!

For my entree, I was completely torn between the Colony Salad and the Pilgrim's Feast. I'm a huge turkey fan and had loved it when we had LTT dinner...but it was a July afternoon in MK, the salad seemed a much wiser choice. If we hadn't just come from Hall of Presidents before lunch and walked into LTT all cool and comforted by HoP's frigid AC, I probably would have stuck to the salad, but I let my comfort sway me and chose:

"Pilgrims' Feast - traditional roast turkey with herb bread stuffing, mashed potatoes and a garden vegetable"

OH how I loved this. Again, I'm a huge turkey fan, and even though the turkey here isn't quite the highest quality, it certainly does the job for me. The mashed potatoes were rich, flavorful, and VERY buttery. The beans had a perfect crispness without being too underdone. The stuffing was probably the most 'generic' item, at least in my mind, and very moist in texture, I like mine a wee bit drier. And great gravy! They gave me an entirely filled gravy boat for just me though, yikes! Lord help the arteries of any person who decides to USE all that gravy on their pilgrim's feast platter.

I warned DH in advance that no matter how full we both were after our entrees, we were GETTING dessert. My mantra at Disney is still Dessert is Not an Option! But especially since this was our first lunch at LTT, I knew I had to finally try one of the most-mentioned TS desserts here on the DiS:

Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake!

"vanilla cake with a gooey toffee filling, vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce"

Maaaaaaan you guys are never wrong, are you? :lmao: This was pretty great stuff. Even though I've seen so many pics of it, I was surprised when I had my first bite...it reminded me more of a giant, super warm chocolate chip cookie with toffee bits in it, then it did a cake. Very dense, short, firm texture with a super rich flavor! The ice cream mixed with the drizzle on top and all the toffee pieces....YUM! DH kept complaining he was too full, yet couldn't stop taking more bites. This was easily the best TS dessert we've had in MK! :worship: I can't wait to have it again!

Thanks for reading! Hope my fellow Americans had a happy and safe 4th!

What a great place to go for July 4th! Glad to see that you enjoyed the rolls and the turkey plate.

As for the Mickey Premium bar and the ooey gooey toffee cake, those are both definitely on my list now! I don't know when I'll be able to fit them in, but I have to find a way. :goodvibes

I can't think of a better way to spend the 4th of July :thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing.

I'm sitting here at 3:40AM, unable to sleep because of some shoulder pain and what do I find? Great pics of food at one of my favorite places to eat! Thanks for helping to take my mind off of my pain for a bit! And, for what it's worth, it's NEVER too early for a Mickey bar!!:rotfl:

:thumbsup2Your meals look delicious! We had dinner there last week for teh first time and it was quite good. We were in the George Washington room and had an excellent server named Susan. Terrific way to spend JUly 4th!

You are so lucky, I can't think of a better way to spend the 4th. Your meal at LTT looks delicious, escpecially the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake!

Fabulous review! Your pics are so gorgeous! We are very excited to be trying lunch at LLT in about a month, and your review really ramped up our excitement!

I am a big turkey dinner fan too (well ... especially the mashed potatoes and dressing part of a turkey dinner :) ) and you have me drooling ... I have this on my list for our next trip. Thanks for sharing the report and the pics! :thumbsup2

What a fantastic way to celebrate the 4th!

I've never been to LTT, but it's on my ADR list for December and probably the restaurant I'm most looking forward to trying. So thanks for sharing! :cheer2:

What a fun way to spend the 4th! All I got on the 4th was potato salad! :rotfl: So glad you enjoyed your lunch there. The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake is the best!

Great review - we are having lunch at LTT on our August trip. Have never eaten there before but really, really want to try that Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake.

I love your mantra - dessert is not an option .... I so agree! Especially at LTT. I would go there just for the ooey gooey toffee cake. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks it is more like a big chocolate chip cookie.

That's so odd about the reluctance to serve rolls...I didn't know until recently you could request them for lunch. :)

What a great way to spend the 4th and thanks for sharing!!
