DW and I starting to kick around the place we want to try on our next trip. It's only 193 days away and I think it's time!!!! :p

Can anyone tell me if the food is spicey at all? In particular the Chermoula Roasted Chicken. DW does not care for spicey at all.

Any opinions on the Filet with Mac and Cheese?

TIA

My BIL had the Filet with Mac....he sort of a none adventuresome eater and wanted something he felt was OK....He absolutely loved it....Never had the Chicken...but they are very accomodating there....I'm pretty sure they could make it to your liking....

Our younger son ordered the chicken and it was not spicy.

I've had the filet with mac twice. The first time I really enjoyed it. The wine reduction and cheese sauce were wonderful and the filet was tender and cooked to order. The filet was not the quality that you would find in a good steakhouse in Chicago so I wouldn't expect the type of steak that I know you love at Shula's. But the dish overall was excellent and I was looking forward to a repeat.

Our next dinner there this past December both my daughter and I ordered the filet. Huge disappointment. It was tougher than the steaks we had every Sat. night in the caf. in college and less flavorful to boot. The wine reduction and cheese sauce on the macaroni still had a great flavor but weren't warm enough...the cheese had started to congeal if you know what I mean. We should have sent them back and if my DH was there we probably would have. As it was we left probably 2/3 of the steak.

I know I'm in the minority on these boards but TWO bad steaks.:(

I ate a delicious meal at Jiko in October 2002. Everything I tried was very flavorful, but not really spicy. My meal included Roasted Butternut and Acorn Squash Soup, Berbere Braised Lamb Shank, and "Afrikaanse" Milk Tart with tea-steeped dried cherries. Yum. I'd go back.

I've had that Filet twice now and both times it was quite good. But as BCV23 says, it really isn't quite up to Shula's --at least in size. If you go and you like steak (as I know you do), it's the item to order.

"Flavorful" is the best description of the mac and cheese filet thingy.

Man, oh man, is it GOOD. :bounce:

You can try all sorts of different and exotic restaurants in The World, but few will match Jiko's for imagination and flavor. The food I've had there has rarely been spicey or hot, but it's always been extraordinary, with surprising and inventive seasonings that captivate the palate.

Enjoy! Mmmmmmm....

I would not characterize the Chermoula Roasted Chicken as spicey. The chicken is served in a metal bowl/plate with mashed potatoes. The serving also has some herbs, garlic, and harissa included in the bowl.

Harissa is a hot chili paste, but one can easily eat around it. Hard to miss the bright red-orange paste. Or you could possibly ask to have it excluded.

The chicken has a wonderful flavor and is quite juicy. I think the mashed potatoes, with a touch of garlic, are quite tasty also.

We have always found Jiko's to be very relaxing, with excellent service. Have fun.

We ate at Jiko in Feb. We had the filet and pork chop. The mac and cheese was the best thing we had. Very unique taste. A little tangy but good. The rest of the food was VERY bland. We hated this restraurant and will not return.

Last year my top 3 restaurants were:
1) Citricos
2) Artist Point
3) Jiko

The filet with Mac & Cheese was voted best steak by me for the last trip. WAY better than Yachtsmans. Jiko allow had "Best Dessert" for the carmadon purses.

I've always found "WDW spicy" to be what I refer to as "nelly white girl" spicy. That's me. A nelly white girl that can't handle uber spicy food. Disney seems to error on the side of mild even in dishes that are suppose to be hot.
