A Happy Dog's Summer of Sea and Shore - *cough, cough, nudge nudge* 7/11

I will officially post the plans tomorrow... Just let me say we will be experiencing two different types of wild at Disney... ;)

Lions, and tigers, and bears....
Oh my!

Or is it:

Ankole cattle, giraffes, and flamingos....
Oh my!

Horses, and chipmunks, and squirrels...
Oh my!

Wherever you stay, I'm just glad you are getting to go, and especially glad we will get to meet you and your lively little guys!

I have a clue what you will be up to one of those nights..

YES, yes you do!!! :goodvibes

Keeping us in suspense, are ya? ;)

Hello! Well, not intentionally!!!! So much happening these final days!!! :faint:

YAY! You are really close!!! :) Yes, MeMom we are going to figure that meet out! I have to get a clearer picture from you where you will be that Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I think Saturday will work, just a little worried about the 6pm time (b/c we will be at the waterpark and probably checking in to our resort... I am still trying to figure it out!) Stay tuned on that front, okay!!?? :thumbsup2

Coming up!!!! :goodvibes

Well, so a few weeks ago I think I shared that we were going to head home from Vero Beach and meet friends in VA to go camping over the 4th. WELL, as it turns out our friends had to cancel and so we moved our Shenandoah camping to the weekend AFTER. BUT, that left us with two extra nights to fill, and the only areas we were interested in were further south -- Miami, the Keys, etc... but obviously two days wasn't enough. SO, I made a few phone calls, DH checked the internet, and we decided to head to Disney for two nights! NOW, before you get really excited for me, know that we are NOT going to go to the parks. Instead, we are going to do a few things we never have time for, which includes A WATER PARK!!!!! :yay: AND MiniGolf!!!! :yay: AND probably taking advantage of the Disney resort fun which will be in store for us on the FIRST night when we CAMP at FORT WILDERNESS!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes YES, we are actually going to camp people! Well, for ONE night, anyhow!!!! It should be fun. We were squared away with a resort for two nights, but the more we discussed it the more it just sounded fun! SO, since we have the car, and there is plenty of eating to be found!!! We can "camp" light, and not bother with cooking gear. We are just bringing the basics. THAT will be Friday night! Saturday, we will take down our tent, etc. get some breakfast, then head to the Waterpark of our choice!!! We will call to see if our room is ready, but likely it wont be until after our day at the waterpark, so once we have had our fun, we are driving over to The Animal Kingdom, to set up "camp" again in a Studio at Jambo house! :yay: That should be fun! We will hopefully get a chance to check out one of the programs at the resort, we'll see. We are torn between that and watching fireworks from the boardwalk that evening, :confused3 not sure yet... But somehow in these 48 hours I have to coordinate a DISmeet with some great DISers who I know will be close! So we'll figure it out! :thumbsup2 Sunday am, we will be leisurely, check out, go have brunch, then probably return to take advantage of the pool for a little while (mostly to take advantage of tiring out our kids a little before the ride home!) We'll head home on the 3rd, and get home on the 4th in the am.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... that is our unexpected couple nights at Disney!!! :upsidedow Even I can't believe it!!! :) Should be great fun!! Tomorrow I will post our dining reservations we were able to get, and I will also give you a cruise packing update!!! I have pics to share!!! :thumbsup2

Your two night Disney plans sound so fun! I can't wait for your report on camping at FW. Are you letting your boys choose the waterpark?

Hey Ya Hi Ya!

Well, they don't know either of them... I can't really remember either of them  Looking for the park that has the better 4-9 year old area.... not the baby area but the in the middle crowd.... Nolyn wont be able to do some of the slides, Griffin should be able to do most, but he really enjoys just playing around in splash areas, so I have to see which has the better set up for that age group ... any suggestions???!!

Your plans sound great. I think i read recently that you can ask at the desk at AKL for a hidden mickey list and then hunt around the resort for them. I thought it sounded like fun. And tons of activities at FW. :thumbsup2

Yippee!!:woohoo:

LOVE LOVE your plans!! WOOT WOOT!! What fun will be had!! OOOH and add a fun DISmeet to that mix and you are going to have a blast those two days! I can't wait to hear all about the activities you decide to do those days!!!!! FUN FUN FUN!!!

Sounds like fun!!! I'm soooo not a camping girl though, I would've gone for the 2 nights at AKL ;)

I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think of the water park, we've yet to go to one and I'm thinking it's about time they get added to the list!

Good luck working out your meet with MeMom and Erika!

Wow - I'd love to camp at Disney but it's just not possible without a car to drag all of our gear with us. Have fun!!!

We love Ft. Wilderness! I've never camped there, but we stayed in a cabin last year and it was GREAT! They give you a list of activities when you check in and it looks like you could stay busy without leaving the place! Your boys will love it!

How FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will love FW, so many cool activities and how great to do it with the freedom of not going to a park. You could fill a whole day just there!

For me, I think Typhoon Lagoon is better for that age, I know my kids had a blast at 4&5, as well as at 9&11 but since I've not actually been to BB I suppose I'm just biased. I just like the theming better :rotfl:

although we've promised BB on the next trip.

Sounds like you will have a great time!! I am with Michelle....I would have opted for two nights at AKL ;) but it will be a fun adventure for your kids!! :) I "rough" it enough without air conditioning at our cottage in the summer :rotfl2: What a wimp I am!! :rolleyes1
There is so much to do at AK....pool activities/games...walk over to Kidani for the pool area there....campfire at night, I think there is a parade of some sort in the afternoon with some of the CM's. Lots and lots to do :thumbsup2

I wonder if your ADR's will have anything in common with the color blue and a place where animals are kept on display.... ;)

I think it is going to be great fun! I wanted to do the parks, obviously, but two days isn't enough, and we have already spent a bundle on our big family vacation. So, the lodging, dining, and inexpensive fun was a great compromise to me, and just BEING there is good enough for me in many ways... I can't wait to walk on the boardwalk and hear the piped music, to see some fireworks, either from the top of the Contemporary (hear Wishes!!!) and of course relax at the AK... and the Water Park will be great fun!!!!! I know that for certain. I want to do the night vision goggles or hear story time if we can make the time for that.

LOVE LOVE your plans!! WOOT WOOT!! What fun will be had!! OOOH and add a fun DISmeet to that mix and you are going to have a blast those two days! I can't wait to hear all about the activities you decide to do those days!!!!! FUN FUN FUN!!!

THANKS JEN! I know, I agree, fun is to be had anytime Disney is involved. I am just shocked that it turned out the way it did!

Sounds like fun!!! I'm soooo not a camping girl though, I would've gone for the 2 nights at AKL ;)

HA!!! yes, well, we are a camping family, well I like it mostly because they like it, and when we are camping they just seem to be so happy. Now it isn't official camping, even less than car camping. It is sleeping in a tent for one night! But never the less, it will be fun to say we did it! One night to get just dirty enough, and know I can take a proper shower with my Disney bath products  then next afternoon, AFTER a day at the water park! It will be fun I think. We are able to get a good deal on the AKL room, so it made the stay easier/worth it.

Wow - I'd love to camp at Disney but it's just not possible without a car to drag all of our gear with us. Have fun!!!

I know! Well, since we have our car we had the extra room, and we are bringing our tent, sleeping bags, air mattress, small chairs (which we were bringing for Vero anyhow) And our lantern. That is it! No need to bring the rest b/c we are not cooking, etc. I will walk to get our coffee at the general store thank you very much! :thumbsup2 Though it may be a bit of a walk or bus ride, not sure yet, we'll see! I don't have any expectations for this part of the trip, totally new!

We love Ft. Wilderness! I've never camped there, but we stayed in a cabin last year and it was GREAT! They give you a list of activities when you check in and it looks like you could stay busy without leaving the place! Your boys will love it!

We stayed in a cabin back six years ago I think it was, and I agree! It was fun! The more I think about it, I am not sure what we will have time for, but I am sure we will have time to nose around, it will depend on how hot it is. We are not going to rush to get there from Vero. I think once we set up camp, we'll probably just explore some of the area, and maybe go over to Wilderness lodge for a drink before Dinner. We are going to eat at the Contemporary that night, and want to see Wishes! I think we will take time to explore Ft. Wilderness, b/c we may rent a cabin next time we do Christmas there...

How FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will love FW, so many cool activities and how great to do it with the freedom of not going to a park. You could fill a whole day just there!

Thanks for the tip about the waterpark! I am on the fence b/c I have the clearer memory from Blizzard Beach, this was BEFORE kids... and then we went to Typhoon Lagoon when Nolyn was 6 mos (with grandma) and Griffin was 3, and it was a blur... go figure!! I want to make sure there is plenty for them to do and we get our day out of it!!!

Looking forward to having fun camping that night.. I would like to go to the campfire event, we may do that, too... I know it is going to be HOT, but hopefully not dreadfully so, and it is one night. We have a tent that can basically give a full cross breeze without losing privacy, so I think we will be okay, not sure we'll even need the sleeping bags!!! AND for one night, I can do it. We just agreed that the boys will have a great time doing it! And we can say we did!

Oh you just know me so welll..... Seriously, can I tell you the true dilemma we have had the past two nights?? How to get to Blue Zoo without paying for childcare, when all we really want is drinks and crab nachos!!??!! We'd spend $$ if we took advantage of the "free" care at the Dolphin b.c we would each have to order an entree, AND we'd spend almost as much if we put the boys in the sand dollar club at the BC. So Matt was thinking can't they just play outside??!! I about choked!!! We have decided that if we go early enough, like when they open, we could sit in one of the booths near the bar (they are removed from the dining room, and we saw kids there once before. We figure earlier when it is dead anyhow, won't be a problem. Then we'll get the boys pizza on the boardwalk! :thumbsup2

As far as the camping, it will be an adventure, and something new, so I am up for it! Knowing I'll be at the AKL next will help too!!!! :rotfl:

A tent?!?!?
Oh but you are brave!!!

HA! Well, BRAVE, sure. Or REALLY STUPID. :lmao:

Yes, the jury is out on that one... it will be interesting, that I can confirm!!!

I feel all Hannah Montana, but I think you are getting the best of both worlds with camping AND a stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge! So much fun to be had! Your vacation is really shaping up into something very, very, very fun!!! :yay:

I have no idea! We have never been to a Disney waterpark. Winter Summerland mini golf is right near Blizzard Beach. You could head over there for a break from the waterpark fun. When we played mini golf last year, our receipt was good for 50% off of a round of mini golf the next day.

My goodness! You guys are going to have so much fun! My kids want to go camping so badly...I think Disney camping might be the best!:goodvibes Especially with a stay at the AKL following.;)

As for water parks. We did Typhoon Lagoon when my two were 6 and 8. My older one is tall so he was able to do all the slides. My younger one was tall enough for most but she's not adventurous so we did all the splash stuff. One warning about there-the wave pool is really STRONG! I saw so many kids come out with bloody knees/hands/elbows. We are beach people so my kids handled it better but the current there is really like being in the ocean. We loved it because it was so realistic and big but I know that is a drawback for some.

I have heard from family and others that Blizzard Beach is good for that "middle" age group. I wish I could tell you firsthand but my DH realized that we could go to Aquatica (Sea World's waterpark) for free with our Busch Gardens passes and so we have been going there each year now.

Packing today, lots of fun stuff to chat about. Should be able to post more SOON! Crazy busy excited, shared news with the boys last night Jack Sparrow invite!!! More to follow!
