A Grandma, A Mom, and A Little Boy 6 Counter Service Reviews
Me (A Mom), age 35, my mother (A Grandma) age 63, and my son (A Little Boy) age 4 went to Disney the end of April (Im a little behind on my review!!). This was our first time using the Dining Plan.
I am a bit of a foodie. Food plays an important part in my life and travels. Im also a WDW and DL veteran, so I know what to expect from Disney food. My favorite Disney foods are the corn dogs from the Little Red Corn Dog Wagon at DL and the churros from the carts at DL. I will not touch a churro at WDW with a ten-foot pole.
Heres what we ate for our counter service meals:
Sunshine Seasons at Epcot:
I had salmon, mashed potatoes, and rice. For dessert, I had key lime pie. Everything was fine. The olive paste that came with the fish was quite tasty. I would eat this meal again, although I would probably try a different dessert.
Grandma had a pork chop, carrots, and mashed potatoes. The pork chop was good and not dry at all. She would eat it again.
Little Boy had macaroni and cheese and a rice krispie treat. He ate them both without complaining.
Overall: We are planning to go back here next year, and I would recommend this place to a friend.
Flame Tree BBQ at AK:
I had a pork sandwich and chocolate mousse. The sandwich was fine. I usually eat this sandwich when Im in AK, and will continue to order it in the future. The chocolate mousse was yuck. It was fakey sweet.
Grandma had chicken, which was fine, and the key lime dessert. Again, it was blah. Too fakey sweet.
Little Boy had a hot dog. He ate it all.
Overall: We are planning to go back here next year, and I would recommend this place to a friend.
Pepper Market (Lunch) at CSR:
I had a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, which was pleasant, and strawberry shortcake, which was terrible. I would order the cheesesteak again, but not the shortcake.
Grandma had a roast beef and swiss sandwich. She said it was mediocre and would not order it again.
Little Boy had the kids pasta, and he would not eat it. He said it was yucky. Thats saying a lot because this boy would live on pasta if I would let him.
And making a surprise appearance is Auntie (age 32). She lives in Florida and was able to visit us twice during our trip. Auntie had a chicken quesadilla, which she said was bad.
Overall: CSR is our resort of choice, so we are stuck eating here at least once a trip. Do not go out of your way to eat here.
Studio Catering at DHS:
I had a Pressed Tuscan Deli sandwich. It was OK. I dont expect much from food at the studios, so I would probably eat this again. I also had cheesecake, which was bad. I would not order it again.
Grandma had a turkey club which she said was OK.
Little Boy had chicken nuggets which he said were good.
Overall: This is not high on our list to go back to, but I would eat here again if we were in the area and got hungry. There was a ton of seating in the shade, which was a bonus.
Starring Rolls at DHS:
We had a snack here and split three things:
Pain au chocolate: OK, it met my craving for my favorite breakfast food.
Cherry Danish: Grandma really like it. It was tasty and really fresh.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake: Yum!!!! I took this to go (they dont have dedicated to-go boxes for the cupcakes, so you have to improvise). It looks very chocolatey, but actually had a strong peanut butter taste to it. And it was huge. It took me a couple days to eat it all. I would absolutely recommend this cupcake to everyone. I would even recommend going out of your way for this cupcake.
Columbia Harbor House at MK:
I had the Anchors Away tuna sandwich, and it was good. I would definitely get it again. It was a basic tuna sandwich, nothing extraordinary. I also had an apple turnover, which was tasty. I would order it again.
Grandma had chicken nuggets, which she would order again.
Little Boy had macaroni and cheese, and he ate it all.
Auntie appeared again today, and she had the litehouse sandwich with hummus, and she said it was tasty. She would get it again.
Overall: We like CHH, and well be back during our next trip. I would recommend it to a friend.
Pepper Market (Breakfast) at CSR:
I didnt even take notes on this. It was not good. Service was terrible. By the time I got my food and Little Boys food, my food was cold. Again, we were a captive audience and only ate here on our departure day because we had a CS credit to use.
The Counter Service winner for me was the cupcake at Starring Rolls. That is now on my permanent eating rotation at the World. For our next trip, I think we will drop the Studio Catering Company and look at Fairfax Fare instead. Years ago, we ate at Pizza Planet (we love Redd Rockets Pizza Port at DL) and were terribly disappointed. It was nowhere near Redd Rockets. Its been about 10 years, so maybe we will give Pizza Planet another shot.
We will also need to add another CS at the MK. Well definitely keep CHH, but we might try Pecos Bills. I have also eaten at Cosmic Rays, and I think that is a solid CS choice for MK.
