DD has really enjoyed her camera and taken tons of photos. Next week is homecoming at her school and two of her good friends are on homecoming court. They asked her to take pictures for them.

She has the lens that came with her camera, EF-S 18-55mm , and an EF 70-200mm f/4L.

I want to get a good closeup (portrait) lens.

What would you recommend?

Thanks,

Penny

I (and probably many others) would recommend a nifty fifty, Canon's 50mm f/1.8. It is a great portrait lens and the best part is the price, under $100! :)

2nd that. Great, sharp lens. The only thing you're going to want to be aware of is that it is a prime lens, so it's a 50mm lens and that's it. There is no zooming in/ out.

As long as she has field access that 50mm should be the best choice.

Thanks. She will be taking pictures in the Gym for Pep Rally and on the field. She will not be able to go on the fired but can use one of her other lenses for the longer shots.

If you want to go tighter look at the 85/1.8. Great in low light as well as great sharpness.
