I have just got into the idea of scrapping and despite having scrapped nothing yet I am totally hooked and financially ruined from my new found "hobby to be!"

I have bought a small top loading post bound album for a project i want to do and am all ready to start but....

I love the idea of hidden journalling but is there a different sort of album I need for that or are you supposed to take each page out of the page protector to view it (and lift up photos or whatever to find hidden journalling) and if you are supposed to do it then why have the page protectors in the first place?!

Sorry if that makes no sense. I hope someone can understand my question and give me an answer!

I never really heard of "hidden journaling" so I guess I won't be much help. I have seen people put stuff under photos, etc, but I guess I don't see the point. I like my pages to be in page protectors, so why would I intentionally make it so you couldn't see it all. The more people touch the pages/photos, the more likely they are to be damaged. Isn't the point of scrapbooking with all this archival-quality stuff to keep our photos from being damaged in the first place?....................P

I haven't tried hidden journalling. I'm under the impression that you have to use a strap hinge album without page protectors.
Good luck with your new hobby and come back often!

I have done hidden journalling in all kinds of albums -
I use an exacto knife and a straight edge to make a cut in the page protector where I need to I have cut from just a little line where I could pull it out - to a big square so I could flip pictures -

I have done "hidden journaling" several times before. In my opinion the best way is slit your page protector so that you can lift and view the journaling without removing the entire page from the protector. I have found that an xacto works great...just be careful, slit 3 sides leaving the 4th attached so your layout is still protected. I have also done this for a "spinning" layout so that you can spin the layout. Everything stays protected and it works great! The only work of caution, the page protectors will rip easily so be careful and try not to place your slit too close to the edge.

I have also ordered a spiral bound and an accordian style album. Perhaps I will work on these first and then progress to the one with page protectors.

Cheers for all your advice, I hope to post again soon! I think I may be addicted already :o)

I have followed the same technique as others with cutting an opening in the page protector. They also make products which will cover up an addition to your page. One example is Page Flippers. They work well also.
