The church we attend is quite diverse, all age worship in the morning is a modern family service with what I describe as 'Happy Clappy' hymns, and in the evening we have a really traditional service and is often sung responses in evensong, the congregation at this service is generally of the older members of the church, we normally attend both services as the boys are in the choir and I am assistant church warden. We also have a realitvely new organist whose previous job was with hammond organs although he has been involved with church music in the past he does tend to be a bit , shall we say flamboyant with his organ playing.

Now last night was communion and I was administering the challis (the wine), and we had visitors from our link church in Sweeden. During the actual communion we normally have subdued music playing, but last night the organist actually started playing ABBA'S 'THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC' as we were in the middle of administering communion. I wish I could describe the faces of the majority of the congregation, the shock was unbelievable, did he really think this was an appropriate time during the service to play this - what next 'money, money, money' during the collection :sad2:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Oh well, no-one can call your church boring then :) Did everyone join in with the chorus ??

Perhaps he was trying to make your Swedish visitors feel at home

Good grief - my thinks the vicar might be having words. I bet you couldn't believe it

I think that was the case sppok - its just it was an inappropriate time to play it, maybe it would have been better at the end of the service when everyone is milling around and chatting

I think that's quite funny, as you say, totally inappropriate. I just would have liked to have been there if he'd started playing 'knowing me, knowing you' and all the congregation had to do the 'AH-HA' in an Alan Partridge style

My late father was a church organist and always played Moonlight and Roses at Wedding, Funerals, before the church service. At his funeral we asked the organist to play it but he played it very reservedly whereas my dad would 'let rip' enough to blast the rafters out. Lovely memories of him.
