A fluffy poll--Weeds or Flowers?

DH and I get into this debate every spring. Dandelions---weeds or flowers? He says weeds, I say flowers. Because weeds have no purpose. Flowers are useful. They are pretty and with dandelions, you can eat almost every part of them..flower, roots and leaves! Yum yum!

So what do you think? Are they weeds or flowers?

Well I would disagree that weeds have no purpose (I know this is suppose to be fluff.... ). but what is a weed and what is not is completely arbitrary. Nature doesn't care, they're all plants. I don't want these particular plants in my lawn however so I voted "weeds".

Weeds are in the eye of the beholder.
To me, a weed is something unwanted in my yard....so dandelions are weeds.

All plants are useful, including "weeds". A weed is a plant out of place.

I do not want dandelions in my lawn since they destroy the lawn. However, I do like dandelions or all 'wildflowers'.

A field full of dandelions is a beautiful blanket of gold . So in that case I would say a flower . However when they are filling up my yard, not so pretty, so in that case it's a weed!!

When I was a kid we loved to play:
Mamma had a baby and her head popped off Kind of a morbid saying

We also rubbed the flower under our chins and if our chins were yellow, I think it meant we were in love

Oh and yes, the beautiful crown of gold we would make with them.

When it comes to plants, I have th e reverse Midas touch. If I touch it, it withers and dies instantly.

Ok.... You won't catch me eating dandelions, but I think they are pretty when they are blooming. I'd much rather see a beautiful field like this:

than use chemicals to kill them....

and doesn't this just say "love from a child"?

I say weeds...However, when my kids pick them for me they go into a vase and then they are beautiful flowers...

Tasty?? I never heard this...Ok, so who's going to run outside, pluck a dandelion - give it a taste - and report back to us...anyone? anyone?

You can eat them Do you just go and pick them and eat them I have heard of dadelions leaves in a salad, but I guess I never thought of it coming from an actual dandelion

Now I know what to tell the kids when they ask what's for dinner. Dinners out back kids, just watch out for bees

I love dandelions and think dandelion greens are quite tasty. They have a bit of a bite to them which takes a little getting use to, but I love them in salads, etc.

I call them flowers, they break up all of the green in a yard.


People eat dandelion greens, and people use them to make wine.
