We just booked a week in October at the Cabins at FW. We're so excited! I stayed at the cabins as a teenager (20+ years ago) so I don't really remember too much about it.

We are driving to FW, can we park our car at our cabin?

If we have a car at the cabin, is it possible to drive to the parks instead of taking the internal bus system?

Can we drive w/in Fort Wilderness itself? To the restaurant, pools, boat launch, etc?

I'd rather not rent a golf cart if we don't have to. We also don't mind driving our car to the parks and would probably prefer to do that instead of waiting for a bus with our 2 kids (8 & 5 yrs.).

How far away from the cabins is the Wilderness Lodge resort? My IL's are staying there while we're in the cabins and I was curious if it was w/in walking distance or if we'd have to drive back & forth to where they are.

TIA!!

I will try to answer your questions.

1.Yes you can park your car at the cabins.

If we have a car at the cabin, is it possible to drive to the parks instead of taking the internal bus system?
2.Yes you may use your car to go to the parks.

Can we drive w/in Fort Wilderness itself? To the restaurant, pools, boat launch, etc?
3. No you can't used your car inside fort wilderness to go to restaurant, pools, or boat launch, you must use the buses inside fort wilderness.

How far away from the cabins is the Wilderness Lodge resort?
4. I've never walked to Wilderness Lodge resort, I've heard that others have walked to it, but if you want you to walk you can take a boat to Wilderness lodge.

The best part of our vacations at the Ft was renting the golf carts and you can drive them to the pools, restaurants or just cruise around. People have posted a service from Kenny (?) in which he delivers the carts and the cost is much better then renting from the bike barn! Have fun and enjoy we love the cabins!

no driving car in Fort Wilderness other than from outside, parks etc, to your cabin or site. no parking other than golf carts at pool, store, ay place other than near checkin, office. have to be careful of children running out from other cabins or sites to visit friends and not look. loops can be crowded with carts going to their site or cabin and not room to pass. it is not like leaving a parking lot.

We bought our own GC after a couple of rental visits. They are so much fun and convenient. But we never drive to the parks. The busses are so convenient and part of the experience (leave the driving to them). Internal busses at the Fort can take you anywhere within the Fort and one runs to WL (maybe purple?). Park busses run from the Outpost only, but you can take the boat to MK and boat and monorail to EPCOT. It is about a mile from the Fort to the Lodge along the path, but further if you start from the cabins. And for some reason known only to Disney, you cannot take carts along the path to the Lodge.

Thank you everyone. Maybe we'll reserve a golf cart just in case. DH and I don't mind walking but I'm worried about the kids.

The internal bus system works great...also bikes are wonderful for getting around the campground. You really don't need a golf cart. They are fun but not a have to have.

also there is a bus that goes directly to the lodge from the Settelment area and a boat.

our boys thought the golf cart was almost as much fun as the parks. they loved just riding around the Fort. we could have done without but by the time i took internal bus daughter and son in law had boys ready for bed. they were at the site that much faster than me. plus when coming form boat to MK, it was a somewhat dark walk to bus. with young children will need stroller only have to be taken out on boat, then back in to bus, and then back out and stroller folded up to board bus. and as i said that stop is dark at night. boat is on one side of Hoop Dee Doo and bus is past on the other side. a long trip in the rain as i had one night, not covered. as you can tell i am very pro golf cart for families. i enjoyed the campground buses and would use again but i use an ecv and could not use cart.

If you ask my 3 teen daughters who have gone to the Ft since they were babies every year a golf cart IS a must have and I agree with PP that the carts were as much fun as the parks! My husband, aunt & uncle and parents feel the same way. We LOVE (once the kids got older) to just get in the cart and drive around the FT checking out all the very cool RV's some with decorations, seeing and going places we would not have ventured too if we did not have a cart. We go to both trading posts several times a day, quick dip at the pool all with very little effort. That is just us!

I think I'll definitely reserve the golf cart. My boys will love it, I'm sure. Is there ample golf cart parking everywhere? I'm sure we'll be spending lots of time at the Fort pools, beach, etc. due to the kids, so it would be nice to have an easy mode of transportation to get around the Fort.

Hi. All the yes or no questions are answerable by yes. I think that it is okay for that FW in the Cabin. Have a good ride in that place. :D

You can drive to FW and park at your cabin. From the cabin you can drive to other Parks, but not to the pools, restaurants at FW, or the boat launch. There is a walking trail that is about 1 mile long, takes 10-15 minutes, that starts near Pioneer Hall at FW. There is also a boat that goes from FW to the Wilderness Lodge.

I always ride my bike to the Outpost or Settlement when I go solo.

With the ages your kids are I'd say definitely get a cart. Everyone will be tired at day's end. We use them on our family trips.

At that time of year you can ride around the loops in the cart and check out people's Halloween decorations.

We've done a few trips where we were trying to keep it cheap so we decided to only rent a golf cart on the days we went to Magic Kingdom. We always drive to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. We have two young boys and it's much easier for them to fall asleep in our own car at the end of the evening, park right outside the cabin, then carry them into their beds. The few times we took the bus they didn't sleep well or we had to carry them from the bus stop to the cabin (not fun).

On the days we go to Magic Kingdom we try to rent a golf cart and take the boat. It's nice to not have to walk to the bus stop at the end of the night. Just hop in the golf cart and be home in a few minutes. We always come back for lunch/nap every afternoon so the days we have the golf cart are the days we go to the pool too.
