A few questions about Disney Dollars...

My 13 year old son just received $300 in Disney Dollars as a gift. Now, being a 13 year old boy, I'm afraid there isn't much he wants to buy at DL, let alone $300 worth! :snooty: So, I have a few questions:

-Can Disney Dollars be converted onto a gift card? I think it would be easier to carry around 1 gift card rather than 30 $10 bills!

-Can Disney Dollars be used anywhere in DTD? He likes the Quiksilver shop but I'm almost positive they won't accept DD as payment.

-If all else fails, can you convert Disney Dollars to cash somewhere in the parks?

Thank you! :flower:

I can't answer all of your questions, but I do know that they sell quite a bit of Roxy and *********** stuff in Adventureland in DL and the Paradise Pier Section of DCA. And that stuff isn't cheap!

You should be able to convert them to a gift card. As they are cash equivalent. You also should be able to convert to cash but I have heard they sometimes require a reciept (this may be at the Disney store).

Another option is for YOU to buy them from him and then use them as payment for meals etc while you are at Disneyland.

Last year we had about $25 left in Disney Dollars. We just took it to the bank on Main Street and they gave us cash for them.

Another idea is if you have a certain amount budgeted for your dining, why don't you just switch with him and give him the cash and you the Disney Dollars? Just an idea.

I found this on the Disney web site.

Tips & Fun Facts
All shops are happy to accept all forms of generally-accepted payment. All shops in the theme parks and Downtown Disney® District also accept Disney Dollars.

For the full Disney experience, use Disney Dollars while dining or shopping for Resort purchases! Disney Dollars are available at any Disney Store in your mall or at the Disneyland® Resort.

Just in case this was not current I, just this minute, called Quiksilver Boardriders Club Store in DTD and they do accept Disney Dollars but do NOT take gift cards or coupons.

FYI: You can buy a gift card with Disney Dollars but you can't buy Disney Dollars with a gift card.

Hope this helps. Kay

I have a vague recollection that the Lego store in DTD takes DDs, for some strange reason.

But I bet he'll be able to find stuff. Does he like Nightmare Before Christmas? There is a store for that addiction (le bat en rouge) in NOS, and I've seen carts dedicated to figurines (one figurine set is on DH's cubicle shelf at work, and he's a 13 year old at heart sometimes).

The real question is will a 13 year old boy want to pay for things with those big bright Disney Dollars!? :)

What a terrible gift. I think they'll convert it back to cash for him so he can buy himself something non-Disney related. $300 goes pretty fast at the park and won't buy anything near as cool as an iPod. My heart goes out to the guy.

I have to ask. Was this a gift from a grandparent or perhaps somebody who works in the city of Anaheim? I know they give out Disney Dollars at Anaheim Chamber of Commerce mixers. I don't understand why anybody would conciously buy them. I'm sorry if I sound a little harsh. I would like somebody to explain to me the fascination with Disney Dollars if there is one.

no offense but geez man. what are you talking about?? Its not like he got 300- worth of socks and underwear, he got 300-worth of cash!! There are tons of things he can buy like in Dl park the Le bat en rouge all the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff, or 300- worth of churros, you know how teenage boys are , they eat all the time and are never full! I think its a great gift, his gift just saved his parents 300- worth of food and "can I have...?
Its Cash Bay-bee!!:rotfl:

Quest4fun-

We put disney dollars on Christmas stockings, Easter eggs, Valentines presents, birthday cards. DD is an only child and only grandchild with 3 sets of grandparents. She is spoiled "sweet" (not rotten!) but she recieves A LOT of gifts. Her birthday parties will have over 30 thank you notes to right. We've started asking for Disney cards and dollars so that she can have her own money to spend at Disney and we can pre purchase our meals year round. We only do Disney once a year but never cheap out when we go. We budget $150 a day for meals and atleast $100 a day for stuff. DD needs no more toys or electronics. She has a very substantial college fund. Why not teach her how to save for her trip. We take a second trip each year and by giving DD at holidays and as rewards, it doesn't tap into that budget

It all goes fast in DL! I agree, I have a 13 yoDS and he could probably spend the money in snacks alone. The Disney Vault store in Downtown Disney has some cool things too. My DS found vintage (but new) NY Giants t-shirt that he loved but it was $50 alone.
The Disney Dollars are easily converted into cash, and if at the end he doesn't spend all of it, he can convert it and take it home for other things. Our biggest pitfall with our kids is that they have their own $ to spend, they make the choices so it's fine with us how they spend it, but many things are emotional buys that are bought in the energy of the Disney setting, but once home they realize they could have spent their money on other things they would have preferred. (Yes, my DD10 now wishes she had an iPod, that she could have bought with the money she spent of the stuff from Disney that is now at the bottom of her drawers.) My DS13 still loves using Disney Dollars!

It was from an Aunt. She was supposed to take him to DL for his 12th bday but that didn't work out so she sent this instead. She bought them at the Disney Store in Wa. state. Why she didn't get a gift card? I don't know.

I think we'll need to convert it to cash. We could buy it from him but we really don't want to carry around 30 $10's either. We will pay for his snacks and meals- we don't want him spending his $ on necessities.

He already has an iTouch but I'm sure he could find some stuff at the store that sells Billabong stuff at CA or Quiksilver (he's kind of a punk rocky kid- just like his big brother). Or, he could wait until he gets home to buy a game for the PS3 or 360.

I don't know if it's a maturity thing or what but I'm sure there are a lot of 13 year old boys (and older even) that could easily spend the $ on souvies in the parks. There is nothing wrong with that. My son just happens to love DL for the rides and atmosphere, not so much the "stuff".

I have a silly question. Are Disney Dollars the same at all the parks? I mean do the ones at DL look the same as the ones at WDW? Do they have different characters on them or say different things? I remember getting them at WDW when I was younger. They were so cool! I might have to get some at DL when I go especially if they are different.

//brushes off dirt.

Well okay then.
I'm sorry. I just don't get the fascination of Disney Dollars. If I was 13 I would have preffered 3 $100 bills.

I love Disney souveniers as much as the next guy but I think girft cards (and Disney Dollars) tend to miss the mark more then they hit it.

That would be better then an ipod for my sons..........I am getting Disney dollars to hide for Easter and my DS8 is asking for some for his birthday in May, it is much more fun then regular money! When the boys spend their money they are much more carefull with what they buy then if they just asked mom for everything they see.
Wish they had an Aunt like that!

Disney Dollars are great- for one, give them to a kid- they can't spend them on anything but Disney, so they are forced to save that cash until their trip. Two- give them to an adult, they are forced to save them for the trip as well ;)

We love using Disney Dollars!

It's all about the intent. One of the nicest gifts I ever got was a $20 Starbucks card. I know it doesn't sound thoughtful, but circumstances made it so. A friend gave it to me for my birthday right as I was quitting my "day job" to be a SAHM. He figured that since my Starbucks habit was going to be one of the casualties of reducing our income, this way when I just had to have a latte and money was tight I could indulge without guilt.

I'm pretty sure this means I'm getting a lot of Disney Dollars for my birthday this year.
