A few misc. questions about new DAS system and combining with genie+

Hi,

I've used and loved the "old" DAS system in the past but have some questions about the new system and was hoping someone with more recent experience might know the answers:

1.) (And admittedly this one is an opinion question) Is there a good reason to buy Genie+ in addition to DAS ? We are going for 9 park days spread out over two weeks end of June / early July 2 adults, 1 9 y/o (the DASer)

2.) I have booked my first few DAS advance rides and wonder if when I show up to the park must I use those first, or can I do the old system of booking 1 DAS return for a different ride and wait until the advance return times are? (So I essentially have 2 fixed advanced ride times and a floating third time that is only used 1 at a time?

3.) It looks like Mine Train and a few other rides aren't on the "advanced" booking window but I think they are still available by using the old "return DAS" - do I have that correct?

4.) I think the rides that will have a virtual queue when we go are Rise & Cosmic rewind... (?) For those, Do I have correct that I need to get through the virtual queue to get a ride time but then show up with DAS to avoid some of the queue? I think that's how it worked at Rise but I haven't obviously been to cosmic rewind.

Thanks all for any info you might have with this -- I really knew what I was doing before, even last summer, but it's a whole new world out there!

1. There is no FP anymore. Genie+ replaced it.

2. No, the Advanced Selections are separate from in-park DAS Return Times, you do not need to use them first.

3. Correct. The I$LL attractions are not available as Advanced Selections but can be done as a DAS Return Time in-park.

4. GotG Cosmic Rewind is currently the only attraction using virtual queue. You would need to obtain a VQ or buy I$LL to ride even with DAS.

I am not an expert, but I can answer a few of the questions. I found most of my answers here on the main thread, but also registered for my father-in-law yesterday for our upcoming trip. I cannot answer about Genie+. We are going to try it without, but see how it goes. My other responses are here:

2. To the best of my understanding, you are correct, you have 2 fixed advanced ride times that are independent of the booking 1 return at a time. The advanced rides need to be used within the 1 hour assigned time frame or they "fall off" your account. The return ones are open-ended- you must wait the allotted wait time (45 minutes, for example) but can return any time after that to ride. You cannot make any others until you use that one, though. The person with the DAS must be scanned into the park before you can make the first one, and they must be present to ride with you.

3. Yes, per my conversation with the CMs who helped us yesterday, you can book a return time for any ride that has a standby queue using the in-park return system which is found in the app.

4. Only Cosmic Rewind has a virtual queue right now. You are able to book a return time for Rise.

Hope that helps?

Thanks! And yes in #1 I meant to write “any reason to buy genie+ in addition to using *DAS* (not FP)… too many words now with all of the systems.

Thanks for your help! This is great and very helpful for planning.

I did not fined I needed to buy G+ with the das. I think if you want to MK would be the park to buy it in with all the rides

My sister just used DAS with Genie+ for her HS & MK days in May. If it had just been her & her girls, they would not have purchased G+, however, there were other girls on the trip for which this was a once-in-a-liftetime type trip. For that reason, they paid the extra money for G+ & were very glad to have it! She waffled a lot beforehand, knowing DAS was going to help them manage the trip better, but in the end decided the G+ would be worth it at those 2 parks… and she was right!

They were able to ride several rides more than once at both parks bc they rope-dropped, made ADAS selections, utilized DAS & G+ very well, and stayed until closing time (inc EEH for deluxe resort guests). They took nice, long breaks in the afternoons & never did more than 2 park days in a row (they planned several resort days to relax/swim).

I was there at the same time (also using DAS), but bc of the level of our medical needs on the trip, there’s no way buying G+ would have been worth it to us. We just weren’t in the parks long enough to justify the cost.

They really are very different types of accommodations, even though they both use the LL entrance. It just depends on you & how using them may affect your trip experience.
