Aug 25 - dinner at the Captain's Grill
We finally made it back to the room and relaxed for a while. Then we packed the rest of our stuff, so we were all set to move to Universal Orlando the next day.
We drove over to the Yacht Club, were a little early and explored the shop before we went over to the Captain's Grill. We signed in and were seated immediately. We had a nice table overlooking the walkway, where people were passing by.
Our server was Francesco. He was slow and rather unfriendly, not very Disney like.
Like everywhere else we told him we were on the
DDP and wanted to use our DDE (now TIW) on the extras. His reaction - you cannot mix the two. Well, we could everywhere else, so please go ask a manager. He comes back and tells us that we were "allowed" to use it!
He then hands us the menus and asks what we want to eat - hmmm, I would like to have a look at the menu first. We order drinks and he leaves. They don't have that many things on the menu, but we were not even through with reading when he returned, put some nice, cheesy rolls and butter on the table and demanding he needs to know what we are going to have. Sorry Francesco, we haven't made our minds up yet! He then disappears and is back in about a minute. He starts to annoy me now! Could we have another minute? Off he goes.
When he finally returned we were ready to order. We had decided on a starter, the Spinach Cheese Dip - Grilled flatbread, chopped onions, tomatoes and bacon. Great choice - crispy flatbread and gooey, cheesy dip! Disneyliscious!
Tom's main course was the Grilled 10-ounce NY Strip - with broccolini and pomegranate jus. I got to try the meat and it was very tender and well seasoned. Tom liked it very much.
My main course was the Pan Seared Catch of the day, which was salmon - with colcannon potatoes, Virginia ham, and lemon-butter sauce. This was a very nice dish. There was nothing left on the plate in the end.
Here comes Francesco to take away the plates as soon as we put down the cutlery. He asked if we wanted dessert and when we told him yes he then mumbled something in his broken English. I mention to him that we are from Europe and English is not our first language and that we didn't get it, could we please have a menu. He just stared and started repeating the dessert offerings. Could we see a menu please? He then leaves, telling me that there is nothing else on the menu he hasn't told us about already.
By that time he really had me. The food was really good, our server was just not in a Disney mood.
Well, we ordered our coffees, as usual I had a cappuccino, which had lots of milky foam and was really nice.
Tom had an espresso, which was not equally nice. As you can see from the photo there was no crema left at all. It must have been sitting there for quite some time until it was brought to our table.
Our dessert choices were the New England Blueberry Tart with Yoghurt gelato for Tom. He was very happy with his choice as it was not too sweet and light.
Being a chocolate lover I had chosen the Chocolate Mousse Cake with Raspberry Sauce. It was rather on the sweet and heavy side. Even though it was quite nice, I could not finish it.
In the meantime it had started raining, well, not raining but pouring! Raining stairrods! So we went back to the gift shop to do some more browsing. While in there we overheard a Mother and two daughters discussing what souvenirs they wanted and were allowed to buy. You could see the girls wanted the bigger toys, but did not argue with their mom and went for the smaller ones. We were so surprised there was no crying or argueing, we decided to give the girls a little extra treat. We asked the mother if we were allowed to give the girls two pins from
Disneyland Paris. Mom agreed, but was really surprised. The girls loved their new pins. We talked about it being the year of the million dreams and how we loved spreading the magic and seeing those three happy, smiling faces. All the time there were 4 CMs standing by, watching
When we left the shop one of the CMs followed us and told us to pick a pin of his lanyard for being so kind to those girls. Spreading the magic is a very catchy thing!
By then the rain had gotten lighter and we went out to the parking lot to drive to Disney Hollywood Studios for EMH. We stayed for some time and left around midnight.
Now, guess who was waiting for us when we got home? Froggie and his family!! Actually 4 froggies were there.
Beware - if you are scared of froggies - scroll FAST NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Froggie had brought his wife?? brother?? other family to sit behind the Oak Manor board.
Another one was on top of the first pillar next to our room.
And another one was on the second pillar which was a bit further away. It looked like they came by to say goodbye, since it was our last night there.
To be continued .........
Next up - another early lunch at Wolfgang Puck's, a last snack at the Riverside Mill and dinner and fireworks at the California Grill.
