I was wondering for example, say I want to book a studio for Sunday thru Thursday in June and their are none available on any DVC resort property. I see where Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs and Port Orleans are apart
of the Disney Collection, could I tell Member Services to book me at one of those resorts? Not that I would want to do this often, but how easy is this to do and are there any restrictions other than you cannot book and travel on the Disney Collections within the last 60 days of the Use Year.

Any help would be appreciated, running on information overload.......

Thanks in Advance

Yes, I've done this before when I had an opportunity to travel to WDW and all DVC rooms were filled. I stayed at Port Orleans and had a lovely time!!

I'm not 100% sure of this but I recall that if you book a Disney Collection and for some reason have to cancel, these points will not become regular DVC points, and can not be used to book a DVC resort later.

Someone will correct this if my memory is wrong.

Are there certain points associated with the moderate resorts if the DVC's are booked up or do they give you the points you would have used for te DVC rooms?

This is correct. If you make a reservation outside of the DVC resorts, the points used to make that reservation get converted to "reservation points." If for any reason you need to cancel, you can get these reservation points restored, but then they can only be used on another non-DVC reservation.

The regular Disney resorts have their own point system (lots of points per night compared to staying in DVC units) No they do not let you have moderate resorts for what a DVC would have cost. The idea is that you need to book as early as possible to avoid this happening. I think there are also limited numbers of rooms available at the regular resorts for point rentals but am not 100% certain about that. DVC does not work all that well for people who want to make last minute reservations - especially at busy times of the year. I have had good luck with the waitlist a couple of times even with short notice so that is another option. Being flexible about which resorts you will stay at can help also.
