A Different Feeling

It's not often that I visit WDW and stay at a Non-DVC resort.

For me, the other resorts just don't have the same feeling or sense of anticipation. There's something very unique and special about going "home."

I don't know if I've explained it very well. Just curious if the rest of you experience this.

I think I know what you mean. When I stay at other WDW resorts (other than my home resort-OKW) I feel a little displaced. For me, there isn't much better than walking into the OKW vacation home and feeling like it's mine. At the other resorts I just don't get that feeling, although I won't object to staying anywhere on property when the points are gone!!! :D :D :D

We flew in on 9/30 of this year and stayed at a Clarion for one night. Blechhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

It was dark, old, not kept up. Would rather spend weekend points then save the couple of bucks!!

WE feel the same way! Stayed off-site one night a couple years ago to "save points". BIG mistake! I always thought I would use my DVC to stay at the GF, but I can't seem to get away from OKW! It DOES seem like home!

We're not sure how we're going to feel....

Our first trip we stayed at WL and when we left my DW declared that we would never stay anywhere else again.

On our second trip we stayed at WL and my DW said she felt like she had "returned home".

Our next trip is in May to our new home at VWL. Since we felt "at home" at WL, I'm sure the feeling will only intensify at VWL. I'm hoping so, and look forward to the magic of staying in such a wonderful place.

I love our home resort,OKW, but also feel right at home in any on-property resort. My DH says I'm a Disney snob, because I wouldn't think of staying off property when we go down there!

Disney Doll, my DH calls me a Disney Snob too!!! HOwever, I will stay off site on a Saturday night if our flight arrives after 8 pm to save on points.....but bet your butt I'm up and out of there first thing in the morning!!!

I agree, off site just isn't the same. We did it once and (as in my signature) *never again*! We saved a few hundred dollars and the hotel was nice but it wasn't the same. You may notice that we bought DVC after that off site trip. That may have been what prompted me considering DVC.

We go to "Disney" for our Disney trips. I know many others don't think that way but those of us who do know the "feeling". :D We do other "Florida" trips, too, that are very enjoyable. I think of them as very different vacations.

We stay at the Hilton the day before we move into "our home away " at OKW. I find it refreshing, I seem to get treated better at the Hilton, the service is much better but it may be like comparing apples to oranges. At any rate it is nice to get into the room at OKW, that home feeling is there. I just wish they would stop giving me my room at 4 o'clock. At the Hilton for an additional charge you can keep the room past check out which is comes in play because OKW is so lacking in the area of having the rooms ready, but that is another subject and my main beef about OKW

We all talk about going home. When we walk into our 1 BR at OKW it looks just like it was when we left. So we know we are really home.
Five more days to Home again.

We stayed off site at a very nice condo complex off site. It was definitely not as good as being on property considering the drive in makes you fel like you are in the "real world" commuting to work. On site is imeasurably better.
