DAY EIGHT: MAGIC KINGDOM (last day!)
We had a yummy, delightful breakfast ADR at Kona this morning. The Tonga Toast was sinfully delicious. Oh so glad I made that ADR, even though that meant we didn't make rope drop.
The first place we headed to once we made it into the park was Town Hall. The line for the princesses was not very long (so it said), so we opted to stand in line to see Rapunzel. The line was more like 30 minutes than the 20 minutes posted, however. Poor Mickey Mouse only had a 5 minute wait. I felt sorry for him.
DD basically said hi to Rapunzel, got her pics taken, and bypassed the other princesses. We had seen them at CRT, and we'd be seeing Cinderella again that evening.
Our next priority was Merida, but first I needed to pick up presents for DS's teachers. I got mouse ears for each of them. For his math/science teacher, I got the Cinderella ears with the slipper on top. For his reading/s.s. teacher I bought the ears with all four parks on them. (on a kind of funny, not really funny note: I walked into DS's math class one day after Sandy Hook happened, which was actually our last MK day, and saw his teacher telling the class how important it was to listen to her should the school be put in lock down mode. She was telling them this with her Cinderella ears on her head. Kind of hard to take her seriously with a glass slipper on your teacher's head. But anyway, glad she liked them!)
We left MIL and FIL sitting along the castle wall while we waited for Merida. DD left the line to go to the wishing well beside the castle. She said she wished for us to stay in Disney. Aww, me too, baby girl!
The line for Merida was loooooooong! It was way longer than I would normally wait for any character, but this was the only place to see her, so wait we did. The way DD beamed when she met Merida, however, made every minute worth it!
While we were waiting, FIL started feeling bad again, so MIL and FIL headed back to the house. We headed over to BTMRR to grab a Fast Pass, then walked onto Splash standby. DS was very, very nervous about the drop. DD was nervous, too, but excited, because this was yet another ride she had been too small for last time. I love how our ride photo turned out. DS and I have our eyes closed, DH is taking a picture of the drop, and DD is laughing her head off!
When we got off of Splash, BTMRR was down. Doh! We headed over to Haunted Mansion. I wanted to see the interactive queue, but when we approached the graveyard, a CM told us he still had room in the stretching room. DD did not want to go on this ride. I had shown her videos online, and DS had reassured her it was not scary, but she was not happy we made her go on it. DS and I will go alone next time.
We checked on the status of BTMRR again on our way out. Still down. We headed over to Tom Sawyer's Island. We let the kids explore for a while there. I think we covered every inch of that place. MIL called me to tell me she wouldn't let the kids watch TV the rest of the day because of what had happened at Sandy Hook (this was 12/14). I had no idea what she was talking about, but said ok.
BTMRR was still down, so we headed over via train to Storybook Circus. We rode Barnstormer, looked around the gift shop, rode the teacups, and then took the train back to Frontierland. BTMRR was out for the count, I suppose, so we gave up on it. Bummer, DD was looking forward to that one. I don't understand how something that had just undergone refurbishment could break down so often.
This was a MVMCP night, so we needed to head out of MK. We had a 7pm ADR at 1900 Park Fare. We decided to leave around 5pm, and spend some time exploring Wilderness Lodge. I wanted to see their Christmas tree. We took the boat over there, took some pictures and shopped, and took the boat back to TTC. I had greatly underestimated how long this would take. We were coming up on our reservation time, and we still had to take the monorail to Grand Floridian. Unfortunately, the masses who did not have party tickets were also trying to get on the resort monorail. After quite a bit of a wait, we made it onto the monorail, then had to stop at the CR and Poly before we finally made it to the GF. At this point, we were 30-45 minutes late. MIL and FIL were waiting for us. DH was hot
, and wanted to leave. I asked the CMs working check-in how long it would be for us to get a table, and she said 30 minutes to an hour. MIL and FIL decided to head back to the house since FIL still felt awful. I felt so bad. Another lesson learned: Disney transportation takes much longer than you think it will. In retrospect, we should have either a)forgone Wilderness Lodge (but I did get a great sweater out of it!), or b)drove our own car to GF, or c)taken the boat from TTC to GF. I thought that line looked too long for the boat, but I had no idea about the monorails. GF looks so close, right?
After about 15 minutes, we were called to our table. Yay! DH ceased being mad. We told them that 2 of our party had left, so they did some reconfiguring, and put us at a smaller table. Again, I don't remember the food. DH had sushi, which shocked me that he would get that off a buffet! The character interactions are what make this meal. Anastasia, Drizella, and the Stepmother were priceless! The Stepmother had accidentally knocked off DD's mouse ears, so she very kindly fixed them for her. Anastasia was loud and funny. Drizella, oh Drizella! She flirted with my boy and then laid a big wet one on his cheek, leaving a bright lipstick stain.
It completely embarrassed and mortified him, and we LOVED it! The prince and Cinderella were sweet, also. DD really beamed when she met the prince.
After this meal, we headed back to the TTC to head back to our car, and then start packing for our return home, and to reality. What a harsh reality it was, too.
