As some of you know I've hit rough waters lately. Well I'm working though it all and it seems as if things will work out for the best.

Here's my debate, we had a trip to Disney planned for the end of August for 6 of us. Well now there will only be 3 of us. The airline tickets are paid for but I will have to change the dates (make trip shorter) and when I cancel 1 room the deposit finishes paying for the other due to my discount that I got after I booked the rooms.

I can't decide wether to cancel the trip all together or take a shorter trip with my 2 kids. I feel as if we "need" it as we've made it through the storm. Its our chance to blow off some steam and for me to try and make up to my kids for all that's gone wrong. (They've been so wonderful and strong) But my debate is I'll have to put the park tickets and spending money on a Credit card since money is real tight, due to the situation.

You're gonna get all kinds of answers on this one. Not really a debate but just a difference in life style. If I was in a bad situation financially and had to charge a few thousand dollars on a credit card just so I could go on vacation, then I wouldn't go. But that's me and if you do go, it's not necessarily *wrong*. This is just the way I choose to live my life. Sure, I use my credit cards and I do my best to pay them off. If you look at my signature you will see that I haven't been to Disney since 2000. That's because in order for me to go, I will have to go into debt about $4,000. I don't think that's wise. So, I'm choosing a cheaper, beach vacation this year. Maybe next year. I can find other, cheaper ways to blow off steam (I need to do that too)!

But, there is the mindset of "you only live once, enjoy yourself." I agree with that as long as the credit debt doesn't get you down for the next few years.

I have a limit of $1500 in my mind and would stick to it. That would include park tickets, transfer to and from the airport and our food money. I haven't been away in years and could really use the "escape". I haven't any debt at all and like it that way.

I don't know where you are staying, but if your reservation is for a deluxe or moderate maybe you could switch to Pop Century or an All-Star and put the extra money towards your park tickets. Save money by drinking ice water and sharing some meals. Water is better for you than soft drinks anyway, and meals are sometimes way too big for one person. Are you going to do a Mears Shuttle? Check around and find out if a towncar might be just as cheap for 3 - you can probably find out over on the transportation board here on the DIS. In fact check the budget board, too, if you haven't already. Maybe even copy your original post from this thread over to the budget board.

I'm one of those who would go. Especially if you don't already have a huge debt to worry about.

Sometimes, the emotional and physical escape is worth the few months of debt you'd get from a trip.
