My family and I will be in Orlando for a trip to Disney in August. We are driving, so we are arriving a day before our Disney vacation starts. We have a whole day to kill and were wondering might be some good ideas on how to spend the time.

TIA.

What kind of things do you like to do? Shopping, swimming, cultural activities, touristy stuff? There's lots to do in Orlando :)

Since its August, and its hotter than the surface of the sun (with a boatload of humidity to boot), I would vote for a water park. Aquatica and Typhoon Lagoon are our favourites.

The Orlando Eye, SeaLife Aquarium, and Madame Tussauds would be another good choice (and all climate controlled).

A day at the beach is fun (and virtually free). Daytona and Cocoa are just an hour away.

We spend an incredible time jet skiiing on Lakes Minneola and Minnehaha in Clermont last August. One of the highlights of our trip! Snagged a groupon for Makaio Watersports so it was super affordable too.

A day at SeaWorld is also a fabulous choice.

Why not stop at someplace like St. Augustine, even Savannah, before getting to Orlando?

I would do one of the springs. Wekiva, Rock Springs, Blue Springs, or DeLeon Springs. Rock Springs is more tubing-oriented, the rest are swimming holes (and all are beautiful). DeLeon Springs also has a wonderful make-your-own pancake restaurant.

GATORLAND. We love it. It's not that expensive and it's a neat place to go. We love it and we often go there if we have one day to kill.

I am trying to get my family hyped up about this, but I guess I have the only family in America not interested in pancakes!

We love outlet shopping. The Nike Shop in Kissimmee has some great buys. The beaches are great and we always enjoy the Ron Jon Shop if we go to Cocoa Beach.

Overlooked and the real Florida suggestions: Kissimmee St Park -see the real Fla Cowboys, take an air boat ride, visit Lakeridge Vineyard, Orange Co History museum, Leu Gardens, stroll Winter Parks Park Ave, take the Winter Park lake tour and if you feel like a little drive Kennedy Space Center.

There is a lot to do beyond the touristy areas of the attractions and Idrive.

We did the eye and aquarium. We ate at Yard House and watched the fountain show. We really liked it and had a good time. We bought our tickets in advance at a discounted rate.
