Hi There!
My DH and I just returned from a quick 3 night escape from our girls and this cool spring. We had an airline credit that just had to be used up by July so enlisted the grandparents to watch the girls while we checked out Vero Beach for two nights and one night at the Poly. We flew the one and only non-stop flight to Orlando from Rochester via Airtran. We upgraded to Business Class at check-in, which was a wise move! I don’t know what it is about the seats on Airtran, they just make me miserable. DH wanted to rent a convertible, so we gave that a try. I now know, I do not want a convertible! Now he knows, he wants a convertible!

The Room- At Vero we had a very pleasant check-in and received an full ocean view room on the 4th floor of the Inn in one of the dormers on the Shuttters end (#2412). We walked in and lovvvved it! I was in heaven lying in bed watching the ocean! Every thing seemed clean and in good shape. My only negative was the mattress and pillows were not very comfortable to us. Mattress comfort is very subjective so it may be fine for others. Just so you know, the inn rooms on both sides of the inn as well as the ocean front are considered ocean view. I could see a couple not being very nice if you were expecting a full ocean view.

The Food - We ate at Shutters for dinner and breakfast. We enjoyed eating there and thought it was good. Sonja’s is now open for dinner, Thursday through Sunday, and they are NOT offering the seafood buffet anymore. Sonja’s is also open for breakfast on Saturday and brunch on Sunday. Also had a snack at Beachers that was tasty. Boy do they charge a lot for a Coke! $2.19 for a very small cup. The refillable mug is worth it if you were going to be there for more then a day. We also ventured out to Capt. Hiram’s Sand Bar. It was a fun place! I thinks I had one too many rum runners (but I only had two! ...a light weight for sure!) They ain’t no disney drinks!!

The Activities- We were only there for one full day so didn’t do too much. The beach was very nice. While we were on Thurs. they opened the ramp and moved the chair rentals to the ramp. My what a fine ramp it is too! It had Trex type plastic decking and railing. This will be nice ...no splinters! We went to the campfire. I felt a little funny since we were the only adults without children. LOL, if we did bring our 9yo she would have died with embarrassment! :teeth I had heard all the stories of chair saving starting at the crack of dawn (or 8am when the pool opened!) so I was a little concerned. However, on a Thurs in May, there were no worries, many open chairs throughout the day. The resort didn’t seem full at all so perhaps on busy weeks it’s different. I loved that ship for the little ones. I must mention that we even went down that zippy slide! This again would have embarrassed my 9yo! Oh yes, Thurs. was member day (it was changed from Wed.) and we had a free round of mini golf.

Traveling to WDW- We traveled a different route to WDW going up Route 1 then west to WDW on route 192. 192 was a nice drive until St. Cloud/Kissimee area (note to by-pass next time) and is being turned into a 4 lane so will be even faster in the near future.

Summary of Vero- We enjoyed Vero very much this visit. Great resort and beach and we are thinking of going there next spring! Not a lot in the area, but we don’t need much!

The Poly- What can I say? I’ve always wanted to stay at the Poly. I won’t go into detail because we only stayed one night and this a DVC forum. Loved the hotel and our room overlooking the quiet pool. However, I came back with a distaste for the Monorail which I originally thought was part of the fun. Should it have taken an hour to get to the Contemporary? Great dinner at the California Grill with a table overlooking the MK! Ended the trip sitting on the swing on the beach over looking the castle. :goodvibes

Any questions?? :flower:

Ugh! To leave the warm, sunny weather and return to our lovely weather here in Rochester. My DS(4) and I were practicing the names of the seasons a few months ago, and he insisted that there were only 3 seasons, Winter, Fall and Summer. I had to laugh, as he is correct when it comes to Rochester, NY, we do only get 3 seasons, with an occassional week of Spring weather sprinkled in :teeth:

I'm glad you had a chance to escape to warmer climates for a few days. Thanks for the trip report.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!!!! Can't wait to try it next May!

Great to hear they got the ramp open again. Were they still doing work on the roof?

You know I was so worried about the construction before we went, and it was so not a big deal that I even forgot to mention it in the report!! The scafolding was on the ocean side of the inn covering the northern 1/3 of the inn. They looked to be about half done with that section on Thursday. They had finished the southern ocean side before we arrived. It looks like when they are done with that section they will not need to have the scaffolding on the ocean side of the Inn again but will need it on the two sides (as well as the road side). There was very little noise. The sound of the waves crashing drowned out any real noise of the staple guns.

Yup, I agree with your little one. It always seems to go from winter to summer. Today it definately doesn't feel like spring.... even our spring! Brrrr!

re: the monorail ride from Poly to CR...NO! I have never timed how long the resort loop typically takes, but it has never seemed like more than 20 minutes to do the entire loop.

We were watching the clock because we had a PS for dinner at the CG. The hour time was from the moment we stepped on the Poly monorail platform to when we were checking in at the California Grill. The wait for the mono was very long and the crowd grew into the lobby of the Poly. Then when one finally came it was going out of service and not on to the CR. The next one came fairly quickly but then sat on the track for a while waiting for who knows what! Once we were at the CR the esclator was broken and it was a long line to walk down it. So, when it was all added up it took an hour! We were 40 minutes late for our PS. The the CM's at the CG treated us nicely and were able to seat us, very nicely I might add - window table!

To balance the story, we took the poly transportation three other times with better results. We walked to the TTC, which was soooo close, and the monorail to Epcot and back. Very nice and quick as advertised. The third trip was taking the small boat from the MK after wishes which while it was a little wait as one would expect(three boats), it was a pleasant wait and ride.
