A Crazy question about AP rates

OK, this is a bit looney, but I'm sort of desperate here.

We bought my step-son an Annual Pass this past May. My AP expired in September. I'm going back down in February. I won't be able to afford my new AP until December. Now, I don't want to wait that long to book, as I may very well miss out on the BRP for that time.

So, is it at all possible to book the BRP rate with my step-son's AP, under his name, and either switch it over to my name once I have my AP or just leave it under his name?

I think all you need is one guest on the reservation to have AP -- at least that's how it used to work before BRP. If he's coming with you, you should be ok. If he's not coming with you, I don't think you can do it, although you might as well try -- what's the worst that can happen when you try to transfer it over? They say no? You're no worse off than if you don't try.

You can book it in any name that has a current AP as long as that person will be in your group.

However the Credit Card to pay it has to be the same name as the person's name on the booking.

Just called - Talked to a very rude and unsympathetic CM who said "No - You cannot do that unless your son is an adult."

I give up - To heck with Disney and all of their crap.

Not because of the extra money it's gonna cost me, but because I'm not trying to pull a fast one here - I'm simply trying to take a trip down there and do it without such a hassle. They've made things very difficult.

I'm sick of the rude cast members. I'm sick of how untrustworthy they've become. I'm sick of how some people staying the exact same time I am at the exact same resort are paying $300 less per person, simply because they were lucky enough to have their name drawn.

20 years I've been going there. Thousands upon thousands of dollars I've spent. Weddings, honeymmons, anniversaries. They won't do a THING to help unless it somehow increases their bottom line. That's not a company I want to do business with anymore.

I'm done - Let Disney play their games with someone else.

Remember, he must be an adult and able to book the room on his own! They are very strict about that now. I read on another board where a guest booked with a child's AP and ended up paying the full rack rate at check in because they didn't have an adult AP.

That's what really gets my goat - I'll have an AP when I go. I just can't afford $400 right now.

I'm just tired of it. There's other places to vacation out there. Disney has lost all my respect. They care absolutely nothing about their so called "guests". I'm tired of the games. Planning a trip to Disney is no longer a fun experience. It's an agonizing, aggrivating experience, filled with mis-information, disappointment and anger over why I'm paying so much more than the next person. No vacation is worth this.

Sorry it took so long to post. I got tied up. I guess you got your answer. And to other posters who say "anybody in your group" that is not the case anymore. It has to be the adult on the ressie who booked with their CC.

I assume you knew it had to be an adult, no more booking with a child's AP.

I understand your frustration. However some of it belongs at those that used and abused the system until finally Disney said enough, and made these changes.

And while Internet forums such as these and many others are wonderful tools for planning a trip they do sometimes provide too much information. You would not even know what others were paying if you had not read about it here. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Prior to Internet forums many people paid different rates, it was just that no one knew about it.

As to the bottom line reference I don't know any company that is different.

I get that - That's fine.

However, Disney could have easily solved this problem simply by making sure their employees at the resorts were properly trained and asked for AP's upon guests' check-in.

I think what irritates me more than anything else, is how rude these CM's on the phone have been to me. This is a company that I've given all of my vacation money to for the past 20 years?????

Why have to confront a guest at check in when you can stop the process at booking? There would always be someone that has some excuse, I left it in the car, I have misplaced it, I am on my way to buy it, etc.

I am sorry if anyone was rude to you, as they should not be. But it is obvious you are very upset, is it possible you were less than polite to them? After all they don't make policy they just book rooms according to what they are told to do.

As you suggested maybe a change of scenery is in order.

Just so you know. I called last week to check to see if I should by an AP. I already had the WL booked from Jan. 1-6th. I just wanted to see if I could save any money and I wanted to switch to the Poly. The lady gave me the BR and booked it without an AP. I offered to buy it over the phone, but she just told me to get it later and have it at check-in. I was shocked as I thought you had to have an AP to book BR. I posted this the other day, and was told that if you call weekdays from 2-5 you can book it over the phone. It is worth a try. Good luck!!

Sammie and Boomhauer, you both bring up very good points. It is others who have spoiled a good thing. And I have witnessed first had people checking in w/out annual passes with no plan of buying them! This took place just this past Dec., before the BRP. At checkin the husband said "if they ask about the annual pass say we are getting them at the park". No one asked. I was also behind them the next morning in the guest service line as they purchased there park hoppers!! :bitelip: It was all I could do to not say anything!

Not that it matters, but never once - Not ONCE have I ever been anything short of incredibly polite to anyone at Disney, regardless of their attitude.

Actually, it can be any adult/junior in the room. There is a way to change who the primary adult is.

Step 1 - Log in with the AP Holders disney.com login.

Step 2 - Log into the Passholder site with the AP Holders pass #

Step 3 - Look for the Best Rate room you desire.

Step 4 - Click on book this room

At this point there is a screen that states that the CC# has to match the primary guest. At this point it gives you an option of switching to a different disney.com login.

Step 5 - Login with the CC holder's disney.com account.

That guest then becomes the primary guest, the guest with an AP then becomes a secondary guest. Then fill out the billing information.

At checkin be prepared to show an adult AP. (Either the now secondary guest that had an AP at booking, or the primary guest that bought an AP after booking, but before arrival at the resort).

I apologize if I'm insulting anyone with my disappointment. It's just so frustrating.

On top of everythinh else, I read on another thread where someone was quoted $49 at the BRP for ASMovies the same time I'm going. I just had a CM on the phone who was willing to book the AP rate, but it was $59 a night. :confused3

Just so you know....I am going to buy the AP. We plan on going back within the year. I just was amazed that I did not need one to book it.

I think some of the stuff on both sides is a little off here -- both the anger at Disney and the accusing others of "ruining a good thing."

Some of the same people who think that using a child's AP to get the AP rate was "ruining a good thing" are probably the same who would use the dining play to use a child's credit to pay for an adult's meal.

The bottom line is that both parties to the deal do the same thing. We all try to figure out the best way to get the lowest rate, and Disney spends equal effort trying to figure out the best way to separate us from the most money. Nothing wrong there as long as it doesn't merge into stealing on our side (e.g., sneaking a 3d adult into a room without telling) or unfair trade practices on their end.

Now rude CMs? That's a whole different story. No excuse for that.

Good luck!! It is frustrating dealing with the CM's. I have had 2 unpleasant ones this past week. I was very polite too. I hope some pixie dust comes your way! :earsboy:

I just called an talked to some guy who said I couldn't do this. So, I hung up, called back and got the same guy on the phone again.

If I could get the rate that appears is available for the end of January, I'd go with that, but I'm getting the runaround again.
