I have a couple questions about renting DVC points as I have never done it before but have seen others on the boards talking about it. I hope this thread is in the right board. Any help with these questions would be really appreciated. I wanted to know if you could still get free dining if you are using DVC points? Also how much does the average person charge per point and how many points would I need if I was to try for the Boardwalk? I'm looking into going this fall and I was hoping to stay at the Boardwalk because I fell in love with it last time we were there. But I have no idea if its out of my price range. Thanks! :cutie:

if you look in the top of this forum (right under the Timeshare store banner) there is a link called Point charts. That's where you'll figure out how many points you need.

You'll be paying $10-13 per point.

You are renting from a person, using their timeshare points. You can add a dining plan if you like but it's required to be paid for in full at the time it's added.

No, free dining is never available to those staying using DVC points.

What members charge per point varies based on many things. I have seen as low as $7 per point for points that expired in a few weeks, to as high as $14 per point. The average seems to be $10-$12.

Google "DVC Points Calculator" and plug in your dates. It will spit out the # of points you will need.

For this fall, BWV is going to be extremely difficult, likely impossible, to book right now. Fall at the Epcot resorts is always busy because of the F&W Festival. And members can book at their home resort 11 months from check in, and all others can book 7 months out. So depending when this fall you intend to travel, if the 7 month window has passed, BWV is more than likely sold out. You should have some backup choices.... OKW, SSR, and AKV will likely have availability. Good luck!

Free dining comes with a package offered by Disney. When you purchase a reservation from a member, you are not purchasing a package from Disney. In fact, Disney will not be involved in your purchase from the member at all, even if you have problems. It's between you and the individual who owns the points that makes the reservation. That's why you won't get Disney cancellation policy if you purchase a reservation from a member. It's kind of like a Priceline reservation. No cancellation, no refunds, no changes.

Thank you for the information! The points calculator tells me I'll need 78 points. Is this for my whole trip or per night? Thanks!

That may be correct. It depends what days and what room type you are looking at. The cheapest point view is standard and go very quickly. Boardwalk view also goes quickly. You should be look for a renter with BWV points. At this time, BWV DVC owners can make reservations up to stays starting at 2/28/2013 (11 months) other owners can only make BWV reservations with stays starting at 10/28/2012 (7 months).

And seven months or less are going to be very difficult. If anything is left, it will be BWV preferred, not BW view.

Thanks guys! If I do find somebody who will rent me points, how does payment usually work? Do they normally require the money up front or does it depend on each person?

It all depends. For a short notice rental, they may want full payment just to make the reservation. Most members want about 50% once the reservation is made and the other 50% at least 60 days out. Remember, the chances of you being able to cancel or change the reservation is nil.
