A Commando on Valium - A 7 Day Solo Trip at AKL ***Update 3/23 page 19

Everything is status quo for the time being. My Delta flight times are holding, but I am watching them like a hawk.

Delta has me paranoid! I've been checking my flights twice a day after they cancelled my non-stop return flight the other day. The only other non-stop out of MCO that day was 6 hours earlier. A whole 6 hours of quality Disney time down the drain! :sad2: So I made myself feel better by getting a ticket to the MNSSHP!

I'll be there 9/17 - 9/22 and dining at Teppen Edo and the Plaza as well... great minds think alike! :thumbsup2

I have two pairs of croc capris and love em. The only thing is that when it's raining out or my feet get wet, I find that they're super slippery. I wore a pair to WDW last September and with all the afternoon showers I had to keep drying them off so I wasn't slidding out of them. Maybe I'm wearing a size too large but they're super comfy. Just be careful!

I think I jinxed myself because they cancelled one of my flights! Luckily it was my flight back home and not my flight down but instead of having a direct flight leaving at 5:30 and getting in at 8:30 I'm leaving at 5:10 and flying through Atlanta and I don't get home until almost 11pm!!! On the plus side, my flight there is leaving 15 minutes earlier, 15 more minutes of Disney - yay!

Hey! Maybe we'll cross paths on our trips!

I'll keep that in mind, mine are probably a little bit too big as well, but the size smaller would not have been big enough - I've got in between feet and really need half sizes!

Here I am! :wave2:

Love love love the lime green camera! What a perfect choice for a DIS-er!
Glad the Crocs worked out too, I am a big Crocs fan! I find them soooo comfy for lots of walking.

I would like to try Teppen Edo sometime I think, or Tokyo Dining. I like Japanese food. In Coral Reef's defense, they have great food and a good steak there if you are looking for steak.

And got to watch that Delta closely. We have our January tickets with them and they've changed several times already.

I'm joining in too. :thumbsup2 I've been following along with MomofCKJ's PTR, and followed your links today. I'm all caught up between your trip last year and this one coming up. :goodvibes You've got lots of great plans, and both of you girls have me jealous and wanting a solo trip! :rolleyes1 One of these days...

I was going to suggest Teppen Edo after you decided to cancel Le Cellier, since last year you seemed to enjoy asian food. I'm with you, I'm a plain eater, but Teppen Edo was awesome! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear more. :goodvibes

Another one, alright! You definitely need to take a solo trip...it's a whole different experience.

I'm really happy about my Teppan Edo choice. I loved Teppanyaki when I went back in 2003 and am looking forward to it. I think one of the most appealing things about the place is that the various components are all cooked separately, and with very little sauce or spice.

I made a couple of changes today...or I guess you could say just one change.

I had to call Disney to update my Magical Express information, AGAIN! I was a bit nervous because the CM I got was pretty new, or at least that's the way it seemed. When she answered the phone she said, "Thank you for calling Disney", and then stopped talking. I don't think I've ever had someone answer the phone that way. It's usually a much longer spiel of "Thank you for calling the Walt Disney World Resort, my name is XXXX, how can I help you today?" I didn't even know what to say so I just barked back at her, "Hi". Then it was awkward for a few moments while we both got our bearings.

Then I went and overwhelmed her by saying that I had a few things I needed to do. So as not to go completely nutso, I took it one step at a time.

1. Update DME flight numbers. That was mostly painless, thank god.

2. Check for a LTT lunch or WCC dinner on my Magic Kingdom day. This would replace the Plaza dinner I already had scheduled. As I kept looking at the menu, I wasn't as impressed as I was originally. I don't really like sandwiches and prefer to snack on appetizers most of the time when I go out to eat.

My preference was WCC for dinner. I really wanted to get the skillet since I'm a BBQ addict. Unfortunately, the two times I have checked it was full for dinner time and I didn't want to eat there for lunch. It was on to Plan B - LTT for lunch. I like the appetizer menu here and also would love to try the sticky toffee thing that is available for dessert. The CM kept asking me if I wanted the dinner, even going so far as to read off times. I kept saying - no, lunch please. It took a good few seconds of this before she finally got what I was saying. Oy...but it finally went through her brain and I secured a 1:10pm reservation for that.

3. Make a payment on my reservation. First she wanted to know if I wanted to pay $X amount. I said, uh, that's my deposit, it's already been paid. "Oh yeah" she says... So then I ask what the balance is and she tells me. I decided I'd pay off about half of it now while I've got the money and then I'd leave the rest to either get paid off in smaller increments or at check-in. That's one thing that I love about room only reservations by the way, you only pay for one night of your stay and tickets (if you've ordered any) up front, then the rest isn't due until check-in. None of that 45 day nonsense to worry about.

Back to what I was saying, she gives me the remaining balance and I take a few seconds to pull out my calculator and figure out what half would be...that seemed to completely throw her off.
It ended up working out, and I gave her my credit card and all was well. I never did get a new email confirmation though, every CM I have ever spoken to about my reservation ALWAYS at least offers to send me an updated itinerary. This one, nope. And unfortunately I didn't realize this until the end of the conversation. So I had no idea if my payment actually went through and thus spent about 12:30 (when I called) until 7pm tonight wondering if I accidentally called bizarro Disney CRO and this was in fact a crazy lady that stole my credit card information. It would explain the weirdness on the phone after all. But all was well and when I plugged in my confirmation number on Disneyworld.com I could see that my payment went through.

In the next post I will put an updated itinerary. The bulk of my planning is finished, which is kind of disappointing since I have more than two months left. I am looking for things to keep me busy in the meantime though. I'm considering getting a new passporter since I really like having all the pockets and stuff to save receipts, put ADR confirmation numbers, tour confirmation numbers, etc. But I'm also leaning towards a binder approach that I saw in someones trip report...sorry, I can't remember who or I would give them credit! I also want to create a visual itinerary, with pictures of the various things I am doing each day. I saw this on a trip report as well, maybe even the same one, and it looked cool and fun to put together. And last buy not least I need a countdown calendar! I have one from last year that I can steal, but I think I will do an all new one. That will probably not be used until August when I get 30 days before my trip. 30 days always seems like a good place to countdown from.

Just wanted to say hi, and that I'm enjoying your pretrip report. I'm doing a family trip this year, but am hoping to do a mini solo trip next December. Can't wait to hear all about your trip!

Hi Everyone!

I spent some time tonight putting together a visual itinerary. It was a fun way to spend the evening - enjoy!

I love the visual itinerary. I've been looking for ways to fill my time til my Disney trip in October. :rolleyes1 I am also going solo so will look forward to your trip report for any tips and tricks.

I see you're doing the Backstage Safari tour. I LOVED it when I did it back in '06. Fascinating. I used to want to be a vet (until I realized it was not going to be all cuddly puppies and happiness) and really enjoyed learning about how they care for the animals. Even got to "pat" a white rhino (through the bars).

Exactly two months from today I will be at WDW!!!

Right now I'll either be just leaving EMH at MK or settling in for my first nights sleep at AKL.

 :cool1:  :thumbsup2

Two months, WOO HOOO! It'll fly!

Love your visual itinerary! Really cute! And I think the Backstage Safari tour looks great as well! On my list for a future trip!

Allyson :)

Well, I'm officially fed up with Delta. They have changed one of my flights YET again. My Atlanta to Hartford coming home flight got moved and now I have an almost 3 hour layover in Atlanta and won't get in until close to midnight. I'm not too happy, but as long as they don't mess with my flight to Orlando, I won't complain too much. One thing for sure is that I will be thinking long and hard before flying Delta again.

I decided to make a list of "Must Have" snacks for my trip. Here's what I have so far - feel free to add suggestions about what I might be missing!

Animal Kingdom:
Frozen Banana
Churro

Magic Kingdom:
Cream Cheese Pretzel
Dole Whip Float
Ice Cream Sandwich

Hollywood Studios:
Cotton Candy
Mickey Bar

Epcot:
Kaki Gori
Egg Rolls

Goofy's Candy Shop:
Make your own Apple
Make your own Pretzel Rods
Chocolate Covered Strawberries

AKL:
Zebra Domes

I just noticed your pre trip, I love solo traveling to the World. My next solo in in Feb and I can't wait. Love your visual itinerary.

To Photopass Share or not to Photopass Share...

I just found one over on the Budget Board and there were a few openings for my dates. Now, I have NEVER done Photopass before and have very few pictures of myself from my past 3 trips. Part of me thinks, I really don't want that many pictures of myself but the other part of me always wishes I had pictures when I got back.

So do I bite the bullet and pay that approximately $25 to do a photopass share? Or do I try and get a few pictures of myself taken by CMs, other guests, whatever...

I was considering getting a Photopass card and then also getting the Photopass Photographers to take pictures with my camera as well, then I would be able to check out what Photopass was like and then not pay the $125 for a CD if I didn't like them.

Thoughts? I'm thinking I should just do it...after all, what's $25, right? :confused3

To Photopass Share or not to Photopass Share...

I have been pondering the very same thing today!

Me too!

I'm not really sure how the share works but yes, I'd say for $25 how bad can it be? Even if you get 1-2 photos that really capture the magic of your trip that will be worth it, right??

I think I'm heading over to see if I can find the thread and see if any shares are available for my trip... even though I hate pictures of myself.:sad2:

By the way, saw your solo pledge on Allyson's PTR... do you have an updated pledge for this trip? I plan on borrowing the concept myself and creating my own pledge -- thanks for the idea!! :goodvibes

Oh go for it! Its only $25. I am in one for my solo trip. I hemmed and hawed like you and decided it might be nice to have some nice shots to remember the trip by. I did a share in March when I went with the kids and was really happy with the photos.

Okay, I did it. I signed up! Or at least I asked to sign up. I think it will be nice to have pictures of myself, to at least prove that I was there ;)

I will be doing an updated Solo Pledge. Probably closer to my actual trip date - only 48 days away!!!

I'm joining in on all of your fun!!! You are staying at my dream resort!!! Love the visual itinerary -- I did one of those for our June trip! :thumbsup2
