Day 9 Sunday 24th December 2006

OK, a bit of a gap (9 months since I posted Day 8!)…..and I have lost my notes for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so this may be sketchy, back on track for 26th onwards, just in case anyone is off for a WDW Christmas this year :d:

I think today was planned by the rest of them, I’m sure I wanted to do more but I had promised not to over park and as I need to rest my gamy old knee to last the fortnight, today was a chiller day too!! Steve played the 9 hole golf course on the Esprit Estate where we were staying, he loved this as you hire a buggy and 9 holes was a very reasonable cost ($18 I think) and took an hour so it didn’t then mean we were moaning waiting for him! Well it would be rude not to soak in those bubbles in that whirlpool wouldn’t it! We had the shock of our lives when he appeared over the garden wall to wave halfway round.

I think some more chilling and lunch was in order, a beer perhaps and wrapping presents……although it was the most unchristmassy feeling Christmas ever, not a bad Christmas but very different to a making mince pies afternoon followed by a trip to church for the Christingle Service (our only visit to church each year….!) I think I could get very used to Florida Christmas!

The weather forecast is not as good so we made sure we had brollies in the car and loaded off to drive down and find Celebration, and some snow! Well a cheesy Christmas it is, so we are in spirit here! It was still light, and clouding over but we had a nice wander around the lake. We tried to see if there was anywhere to book a table to eat but everywhere was very booked up and closing very early anyway.

It “snowed” at 5pm I think, fantastically wet and foamy snow, and it really suited Florida! We had a bit of a giggle, and being very short sighted, by screwing up my eyes I could almost “pretend” it was real! Just a piece of advice, keep your mouth shut. It was very pretty with the shops decorated and well worth it for an hour.

However, my goodness the sky was blackening. We legged it back to the car and for once we were the fortunate ones, as we were early we were parked close by, the poor souls who had a walk got drenched and we stayed dry, there would have been no more snow that night on the hour every hour……it was a summer storm downpour. We drove back out and spotted a Joe’s Crab Shack and ducked in there on my recommendation, as I had eaten at one in LA four years earlier and remembered the cocktails! We had a great meal, can’t remember precisely what, and it was nicely cheerful with it being Christmas Eve. The balloon man came round (hard up student!) who was very nice and let large children have balloons too.

Unfortunately, Laura was not feeling 100% so we left via the gift shop for the obligatory “I’ve Got Crabs” T-shirt and back to the villa to wrap presents and look forward to Christmas Day.
