A certain school rule, please read :)

Today in algebra, my teacher told me not to hug my best friend because if I do the teachers would count it as sexual harrassment by both parties.

Yeah, he's a guy. But so what?

I looked in the handbook, it's not against the rules. I want to go ask the principal about it, but I'm not sure if that's the smartest thing to do.

I hugged people, including lots of guys last year, and never got any warnings. It's just stupid.

Does your school have this rule? What should I do?

Excuse me if this thread seems silly, it's just hugging is just how I say hello and goodbye, lol.
I told a few of my friends that my teacher said that, and they were just so offended. That's the silliest rule.

It should only be sexual harrassment if one party doesn't want to be hugged and they make it obvious to the people around him/her.

At my school, we aren't allowed to hug someone for longer than x amount (I think either 3, or 5) of seconds. I think it's more PDA, than harassment.

we have a pda rule at our school too. i got sorta yelled at my my teacher two years ago cause i ran up to my best guy friend after he got over the flu and ran up to him and gave him a hug.. looking back now it coulda looked like pda but for the most part i hug people all the time but i dont like hold hug them i hug and release lol

the only time i ever got in trouble for hugging someone was when i like ran, spider monkey leaped onto my friend then clung onto him.

we had a 6-inch rule, meaning you couldn't be closer than 6 inches to the opposite sex. but no one ever followed it.

We all break the PDA rules. Like no sitting on laps? Psh. Yeah right. No massages? Oh please. No hand-holding? Um. Yeah, I hold hands with someone everyday

Those are the school rules.
Not a private school.


We also have the rule of "no backpacks allowed" and "only 1 visit to your locker a day" which is right before lunch.

Thats right ladies and gents.
We get to carry our books everywhere....and we have 1 visit to our locker right before lunch.

We also have 3 minutes to get across the school into our class. If we're late. We have to walk all the way up to the front of the school to get a "late" pass.

We don't have home room.
All of us (and I live in a county that has more people living in it then in the entire state of montana), are shoved into a gym....until they "Ring" the "bell" to get let us go to 1st period.


What else...
Oh! We can only use the bathroom "during lunch" which we have to SIGN OUT of the cafeteria to do. If we can't..."well then, thats too bad".

Really, I wouldn't be complaining.

I can't believe at how ridiculous that is. Especially only being allowed to go to your locker right before lucnh... What about after lunch? To put your lunch boxes away??

Wow... reading all this I consider myself (and my school) lucky... We don't have any of those rules... Well, at least not now, high school's probably a whole different story.
