My apologies for the non-Disney related post, but I need to get this off my chest!

I've been unemployed for the past two months, and I still have not found a single position related to my qualifications! I hold an Environmental degree, which initially sounded like a logical career path (which mostly consists of science and law and policy) but I've been going hard for some time now with no luck. Seems all the position I'm qualified to do are found in the U.S. and being a recently married individual moving there is not an option! Being in the situation that I am, I've even gone so far as to apply for position that do not interest me in the slightest, which was done mostly out of desperation and anxiety!

I'm still reasonably young (26, soon to be 27) and feel that I should have settled into a career already, but I suppose that I've landed myself in the vicious "little experience, sufficient education" cycle. I'm beyond frustrated with my situation as naturally I would like to be in a solid career! For over a year now I've been seriously considering taking an HR course, which doesn't exactly appeal to me, but happens to be a solid career choice in my province. Plus my EI officer hinted that if I meet all the expected conditions, the government might pay a fair portion of the tuition.

Do any of you have careers that are related to your degrees? Do you enjoy what you're doing? Anyone else think that I'm completely ridiculous to not have a decent job by my age???

Know someone you can contact but you have no email or PM?

Where do you live and what kind of a job are you looking for? Your description leaves it quite open still - do you want to work making environmental policy? Do you want to work for a company doing their environmental work? Would you want to work for the government, and if so, which level and where? If you can be a little more specific, I may be able to help...

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble finding a job in your chosen field. My DH is a caretaker for the school board and alot of the new people being hired have college and university degrees in numberous fields but can't find jobs it is horrible.

The receptionist at my work has a $50,000 degree in Kinisiology (sp) and this was the best job she said she could find.

Good luck with your search!!!!

My only advice is to not give up.

I graduated with a science degree that qualified me for nada and so I then went for an engineering degree. After graduating with the engineering degree, I spent 2 years without a job (I spent those two years in grad school so I wasn't wasting my time but was just really biding my time). Got a job with the government as an intern (low pay, bottom of the totem pole for two years) ...spent years on 6 month, then 3 month contracts until I finally got the full time job. When I got that intern job, I was already 28 years old. So I was older than you are right now and I was just *starting* my career.

I'm now relatively happy where I am (still the same office) and I get compensated very well. It took a bit of time but it was worth waiting for.

So... whatever you do, don't give up.

I don't know what your spouse does for a living but if he would be willing to move I am sure with your degree the oilpatch here in Saskatchewan or even in the south western corner of Manitoba the oil industry would be falling all over you. I would think you would be looking at making between 500 to a 1000 a day.
