A Birthday Celebration - The Holidays, Disney Style (Dec. 2010)

I have been concerned about the extended hours as well. I hope it doesn't mean terrible crowds. I guess it doesn't really matter. Disney is always fun, even in the crowds.

I think the Christmas stuff at Germany is pretty, although I am sure there will be no shortage of cool Christmas souvenirs at Disney.

Looks like you've got six very happy cats there. :)

Well, so far TP's #s haven't changed due to the increased hours...so hopefully it stays that way!

I'm very excited to get to Epcot and see what they have to offer for Holiday souvenirs.

So, if there is time this year I'd like to squeeze in some things Joe and I haven't seen before.

In Epcot: Living with the Land, Ellen's Universe of Energy and Journey into Imagination with Figment

Any thoughts on these? What is your favorite if you had to pick one?

I would also like to see 1 or 2 of the following shows: Beauty & the Beast, Nemo or Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

Thoughts?

Thanks for any advice!! I'm sure we can't do them all so hearing feedback is great appreciated!

AND WE ARE OFFICIALLY TWO WEEKS OUT!!!!

Joe is so looking forward to it he youtube'ed WDW Holiday things tonight.

As you know, I work at the Museum of Biblical Art and in this economy, most museums have taken pay freezes and no bonuses...for the past 2+ years.

So, the director called me into her office today to let me know the Board of Trustees had raised a little money to thank the staff for all of their work.

I'm thinking $50.00 tops...

I get to my desk, open the envelope and there is a whopping $500.00 check!! :woohoo:

THANK YOU, BOARD OF TRUSTEES!!

Now, now I am no big spender so most of it will be going to paying off my credit card for my Christmas shopping. But I do think I will use some to treat myself to something nice. I'd really like to get a mani/pedi since its been ages! Perhaps a nice souvenir from WDW? I also have $22 Disney Dollars and some gift cards left over from my Graduation.

Know of any special Holiday souvenirs at WDW?

I have to vote for Ellen :thumbsup2. It is one of Dallas' favorite rides and we have to do it every time we go. I don't mind though, it is long enough to take a power nap......:lmao: I like Living with the Land as it brings back memories of my first trip in '86. Figment is OK, but I hate the end of the ride for some reason :confused3.

I can only comment on Beauty and the Beast as it is the only show I've seen, but it was awesome.

CONGRATS on the bonus :yay::dance3:. You DEFINITELY need to do something nice for yourself. Just think of it as a Christmas gift to yourself. We don't get any type bonus any more, and when we did it was a turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas :rotfl2:. Dale usually gets a Christmas bonus, but he gets it the Friday before Christmas :rolleyes1.

I can not believe that one week from tonight I will be in Orlando :cheer2::dance3::yay::woohoo::banana:.

Thanks for that info about the wet ones, and lysol. So going to buy some. My son got the stomach bug our first trip and got sick in the lobby to Boma! Don't want that again!

poor thing....although I guess that's better than at a table at Boma:goodvibes

I think I'm aiming to get on Ellen, Living with the Land and seeing B & B. Those seem to be everyone's favorites.

You're welcome! That's awful - my fear is to get it while on vacation, so I am going prepared.

Well, if it wasn't the stomach bug then the food at Boma would have got him. The day after I ate there I felt all sorts of ill. Despite that, we will be eating there again :rotfl:

I have heard mixed reviews on doing online check-in...

What are your thoughts?

To online check-in or not to online check-in??

I have never done it before, but I've heard it saves a ton of time. And since you are going int December, it's probably going to be really busy, and so this might be the route you want to go to cut off the wait-time.

Haha, silly me! It says "10 days prior to your arrival." ;)

Well, I arrive in 11...so that means check-in is today!

And yes, I did online check-in. I cannot believe we are so close to going!!

At first I wasn't sure because jjohnson told me they weren't checked in any earlier by doing online check-in because they had been assigned a room in advance and couldn't be given any rooms that were available when they arrived. Maybe bad luck?

What I don't like about checking in online is that the only Room Requests you can put are for 1. Ground Floor 2. Near Transportation 3. Refrigerator and 1 other thing :confused3 I didn't put any because I really want to be in the building I requested and don't need them to accommodate anything else.

But does this mean they won't have my specific Room Request??

I am going to call CSR on Friday just to double-check they got the online check-in confirmation and politely remind them of my Room Request and that it is my Birthday :rolleyes1

Anyway, as you know, I am using my DBrother's pin, which was received at my DFather's household. Ergo, I used their address as my address to use the pin. I'm sure I violated some unspoken Dis rule, but I bet you'd do the same for 35% off! And no one could blame you for it.

However, my photo I.D. says my permanent address - think it will be a problem at check-in?

I'm thinking no...

Maybe I'm being paranoid...but I keep waiting for something bad to happen.

Ok, so tonight I am going to Home Depot to get my Lime Green Mickey head!! And then I plan on finding stickers to put my Dis username on it...then all you fellow Dis'ers can say "Hello!"

Ciao for now!

Good thinking! I want to get through check-in quick and head straight to the park :goodvibes

We usually do Online Check In. I don't know that it actually saves much time, but I always do it out of pre-trip enthusiasm. We did get a really great room last time, and it was ready when we arrived at nine in the morning, so I have no complaints about it.

Just remember when you call the resort, you aren't actually reaching the resort. While you may have the "resorts" phone number, it still goes to the central call center and they see the call is for the "CSR" and that is how they will answer the phone.

We've done online check in the last two stays at the CSR and we had no issues with the online check-in at all.

Go ahead with online check in then I can say "I told you so" when you get back:p Then again I have the WORST luck with rooms so what do I know.

Thanks for the TP link. I LOL at the Robo reference; so funny. In case anyone else missed it, its hysterical:

Here's hoping for good luck...

Ultimately, it was pre-trip enthusiasm that drove me to do it ;)

I love all of the great things I keep hearing about CSR and CANNOT wait to get there!!

It is 12:00am currently and therefore it is time for the...

SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!!

:banana::dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::banana:

Anyway...didn't make it to Home Depot tonight...maybe tomorrow??

:cool1::banana::woohoo:SINGLE DIGIT DANCING WITH YOU :woohoo::banana::cool1:.

We love online check in. We have used it on our last 4 trips and we didn't have any issues with it. I requested a ground floor room near transportation for our September trip and we were right outside the food court; which was great. We didn't have a long line to wait for check in since online check in has a separate window.

I just cannot turn my brain off thinking that I am actually going to WDW next week!!

I was up until 5am this morning thinking about it! I am esp. stressed because there are things I need to get done regarding grad school before we leave and I was hoping to accomplish everything today, like registering for classes, but nothing is working.

I am officially obsessed with WDW right now and don't know how to stop. The other night I was up until 3am watching WDW commercials and youtube videos of families surprising each other with visits to WDW.

Ok, ok...I can get through the next 8 days and get some sleep, right??

I'm on my way to Home Depot and will post some pics later :santa:

I made the trip to Home Depot finally to find only 1 "Alien Green" paint sample left and 1. I wanted two and 2. It was bent.

So, I kindly asked someone to check if they had any more. After rummaging through boxes, finding the Disney one and finding no "Alien Green" left I decided "Sonic Boom" was close enough. I don't have much time this week to get to another Home Depot and I certainly have been slacking in giving all of you photos ;)

Here are the two paint samples compared...so not too different, right?

DSCN3655.jpg

And here they are with stickers...they are off center b/c there is only so much space on the paint sample, but I think they're legible enough. Of course I wasn't thinking and bought 1 packet, leaving me with 1 set of numbers

DSCN3661.jpg

Beautiful and legible, right? I bought the stickers at Target for $0.99...so I totally should have bought another packet for more numbers. Oh well...I think they look snazzy.

While at Target I decided to get a new hat and gloves because it looks like it is going to be chilly next week.

Hat = $14.99, Gloves = $10.99. A little pricey, but I couldn't resist their softness and the sparkles on the hat!

I also bought a "Weekender" set because my bags for toiletries etc. are old and falling apart.

3 piece set = $24.99

And lastly, I couldn't resist some Holiday apparel.

T's = $5, Long-sleeve = $8 (How could I resist??)

And lastly, I dug out my notebook that I use for TRs...my last 2 are chronicled in this tiny, convenient notebook.

Ok, that's all for now...ciao!
