A baby, a house, and going to see the mouse! 12/10

Hooray for saving money!

I gained 50 pounds with my pregnancy and 3 months after I gave birth I was up 10 pounds. I panicked! Isn't the scale supposed to move in the other direction? I joined weight watchers and started walking. It took about a year but I lost all the weight and then some! I think the walks did as much as weight watchers, although weight watchers got me through the plateaus. I think the key is to be consistent and patient. If you are doing it right you will only loose 2 pounds a week, which is slow and can be discouraging, but if you track your progress it helps stay motivate.

Oh and when the little one starts moving you will get plenty of exercise!!!

Good luck!
Ah, I know! I really thought I would be wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans by now. :rolleyes1
At this point 2 lbs a week would get me right there, so that's good to know. Weight watchers actually sounds like a great idea. I've lost weight through them before, and it would probably be a good tool to utilize during the holidays.
That's awesome you were able to lose the baby weight and plus some within a year! :cheer2: Jonah is already pretty restless without being mobile, so I think you're right!

Hi Ashley!! That is an AWESOME discount!!! Yay!! :thumbsup2 And a woods view too. I love it when those things fall into place.

ha ha Mousercize. I didn't know about that one. :rotfl2:

Heck, I figure that it takes 9 months to gain the baby weight so it should take equally as long to lose it!! ;) Not sure if you are nursing but that seemed to help over a period of time even though I didn't really exercise with my first 2 babies. By my 4th baby it took a lot longer to lose but I was a little older too. My advice is to just give yourself time and just start with small things like a walk with Jonah in the stroller or a baby backpack. (I lost 33 pounds 4+ years ago by running but that wasn't something I did when my kids were little.) Good luck with whatever you do.

Family photos would be an awesome thing. I don't recall the resorts that they do this at but I think they do the BC which has some pretty areas and of course the beach area.

Woohoo! An upgrade and saving money too? Awesome!
Ugh, unfortunately I have no weight loss sucesses to share. Every year before Disney I think "I have to lose weight before my trip!" but every trip somehow I'm a little heavier than I was last trip. So if you find the secret, please share! :rotfl:
Booking a photographer sounds like an amazing idea, not only for motivation, but for the portraits too!

COngrats on an awesome discount~! It was meant to be!

As for weightloss... I've gained and lost my "baby weight" several times over the years - so I am not sure that I am the best one to look to for advice. LOL I can take it off, but I can't seem to keep it off. I am not sure when I will learn? I am one of those that has to excercise like CRAZY to lose - and I must continue to excercise A LOT to maintain... My problem is, once I've lost what I want to - I am so sick of excercising like CRAZY, that I can't continue to excercise A LOT... It's a vicious cycle...

I am currently in my most recent excercise phase... I am doing well. I've decided that this time - I am not going to excercise like CRAZY and just excercise. I've been doing many things... The last 4 weeks before we left for our trip - I will admit I went overboard, but since we've returned - I've managed to go back to a more normal regime (which is a HUGE accomplishment for me - normally I'd just give up)... So, I do Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds 3x/week (I am now up to doing it with 7lb weights) and I do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred 2 days/week - also now with 7lb weights. I am at the point where I really want to be STRONGER and not necessarily smaller... but I am hoping that smaller will come as a result of being stronger. Make sense? It does to me. LOL Oh - I've also started to do Zumba 1x/week with my co-workers, which I talk about a lot on my TR. And sometimes, if I am feeling ambitious (or guilty) - I will take a walk in the evenings... this is a "short" walk - about 20 minutes, but it's a very hilly walk, so it's a hard work out. I try to limit my walks to 3x/week - and only if it's really necessary. I'd really like to be in my smaller jeans when the weather turns colder - I am very close.

I don't track my food - I used to (with both WW and MFP) - but lately I've not been so good about it - in my defense, I eat the same few things for breakfast every morning, and the same few things for lunch every day - so the only variation to my diet is what I eat for dinner... I would rather lose by just eating what comes naturally to me, then try and journal it all the time, because journaling tends to annoy me after a few weeks. However - I do love Myfitnesspal.com - it's free and a great way to track your food and excercise. Sigh... Mostly, I've been focusing on nutrition - and trying very hard to eat the most value I can... So lots of protein, lots of veggies, anything natural, but very little (if any) processed foods. Oh and I've completely given up soda... I drink plain water when I work out... Then I switch to water with a lemon (or any other fruit added)... Then in the afternoon I swtich to h2Oh - which is a natural sparkling water beverage with no chemicals - I drink it because I really enjoy the fizz.

It's all a battle - no matter what I do.

Right now, I have no idea how much I have lost... I have not weighed myself since March. I know I have lost quite a bit - and I know I have gone down a few sizes - but I would rather my focus be on size lost rather than weight lost. Because anyone can look at me - and as long as I look fit, I could care less what I weigh. The number is arbitrary.

I wish you luck - it's so hard to keep on it all the time, but as long as you have the focus and determination, the rest should fall into place.

D~

Hi Brenda! It was a wonderful surprise to learn we qualified for a discount and the woods view!

Haha, I'm guess Disney wanted to be a part of the jazzercise craze during the time.

Thanks for the encouragement! I think you're right, I need to remember it took 9 months to put it on so it will probably take that long to lose it. Not all of us can be Kate Middleton. Walking Jonah is definitely a great idea. I think the weather here is finally getting to where we can do that.

I think the beach club/ boardwalk areas are very picturesque. It would also fit the subtle theme we have in mind for our living room if we decide to display the photos. Hmm... this will be a tough decision.

Woohoo! An upgrade and saving money too? Awesome!

So excited! It felt like Disney sent a little pixie dust our way. :wizard:

The only secret I have so far is catching a stomach virus from an infant. I lost 5 lbs in two days, but I'm not sure it was worth it.

You're right, I am beyond thrilled to finally have some nice family portraits.

Thanks D~!

I will have to look into Walk Away the Pounds. It sounds like something I can do. I think I am right there with you. My biggest concern right now in regards to losing weight before the trip is not being able to enjoy our trip. So maybe I can just focus on building up my energy as opposed to losing the pounds. Later I will have to look into some sort of weight lifting. I do reps with Jonah right now, that's 14 lbs and he'll only go up from there. My main goal overall is to be able to keep up with him though. Right now the lack of sleep probably isn't helping, but I feel like I'm always tired.

So true how the numbers are arbitrary. I will have to remind myself of that! I might try not weighing myself during the first month and just adding in the exercise/extra steps. Maybe my favorite jeans will be my new way of gauging my progress.

You've given me a lot to think about. Thank you so much, D~!

I wish I had some weight loss advice to offer, but the way I lost the last 20 pounds after the pregnancy was getting sick and going to Disney while sick. Not something Iw ould recommend you do. ;)

Hey Mel! Ah, I remember reading that in your TR. Haha, I'll keep that as a last resort. ;)

I hope you are doing well! :flower3:

Fun news on the new discount!!! Very good

"Come on everybody let's Mousersize, Mickey's Mousersize"
" Ducks dance too"
LOVED this cassette tape...yes I said cassette tape. Bought it with the exercise booklet on one of my first Disney trips and my sister used a copy we made in her Kindergarten class many years later....so would love to be able to get it again...loved it

Any how...exercise. I am in this process and followed the 17 day diet last fall and dropped about 25 pounds. I gained 12 of it back after stopping for stress at work and now I am following very loosely but having slow success. any how....17 minutes a day as a starting point. get up and moving, take a walk, go up and down the stairs...do arms lifts with the baby over and over...which was one of my favorites when mine was small...start with 17 a day and build up you strength to get long times in...when possible. 17 minutes....hopefully you get that many during a nap!!

LOVE the photo idea so so so much.

Hahaha, so glad someone else here knows what I am talking about. I honestly think I could find my VHS copy in my mom's attic somewhere if I looked.

I love the idea of 17 minutes a day. I use that trick for keeping up with housekeeping. What a great idea. :goodvibes

It is soo nice to meet you!!:goodvibes DH and I will be going in December; only about a month before you. We were hoping this trip would be with our first LO; however, it is not our time yet. In the meantime, I will live vicariously through others PTR/TPs. :thumbsup2

Jonah is absolutely perfect!!! Congratulations on your new family of 3!! I am sure it is going to be amazing to experience a trip with him at that age. I have always said that I want to take our kids for their 1st birthdays; however, DH has always been against it. He said they wouldn't go until they were old enough to understand what was going on. That is, until our last trip:). When we went in October last year, we had breakfast at Chef Mickey's. At the same time, a precious little boy was celebrating his 1st birthday next to us. After DH watching his reactions and how much fun he was having, he was sold. It is now a must to go for their 1st birthday; whenever that may be:goodvibes
We have debating on having the dining plan; however, we have not had the opportunity to take advantage of it. We have transferred in my parents’ timeshare into DVC and used Military tickets. Because of that, and the fact that we go for less than $1000 for the week, I am not complaining about paying out of pocket for food. Have you used it before? What are your thoughts on it? I like the idea of having most everything paid for before we go.
I am so excited about seeing the new Fantasyland. Nothing was open when we went in October 2011, and because of the construction, we avoid Fantasyland in general.
We have never been to Garden Grill, but I have heard great things about it.
One of my fellow dis-addicts and dis-mentors, who happens to also be my hairdresser, took all 3 of her kids for their first haircut at Harmony Barber Shop. This will be a must do for us as well. It was such an amazing experience for them, and so memorable. They received a certificate, a lock of hair, TONS of stickers, and a special pair of ears.
We did Hoop-Dee-Doo on our trip in May 2009. It was a blast. If you were to do the early show, I think Jonah would love it. Sorry you are going to miss out on it. The food was delicious, but the show OUTSTANDING!!!
We have never done the Dessert Party, but I have debating on it this trip. We are already doing several big things though, so I think we may wait until next time. DH and I have a tradition of getting ice cream from the Ice Cream Parlor in Main Street and then watching Wishes. Can’t break tradition, now can we?!?!
We enjoy Park Hoppers, and get them each trip. We find it well worth the money. Typically, we will hit a park that should be the least crowded, and then go to the park with PM EMH that evening. We also like to go to one park in the morning, lunch and relaxing at the resort, than a different park that evening. I feel like it creates a more relax trip, and provides more freedom.
Congratulations on your new home!!! Regardless of the structure type, it is still your home. We currently own our home, but many times, I wish we rented or lived in a condo/townhouse type home. The yard work, and other maintenance can build up and up, and then there is the cost of it :scared: Love the idea of Jonah’s room, and especially the Mickey kitchen ;) We also have a mickey kitchen!!
I never understood what my parents mean about how fast time flies faster and faster the older you get, until my niece and nephews were born. I feel like yesterday we had their baby shower, and today it was their 1st birthday party!!!
We love staying DVC, and plan to rent points if we are never able to transfer in RCI to DVC. Nothing beats the space you have. My mom and I have the dream of staying at BLT, while DH and Dad have the dream of staying at VWL or BC/YC.
We are trying to do new ADRs as well, but it is SO HAAARRDD!!!! When you find something you love, and you don’t get it very often, it is so so hard to go elsewhere. We have only done LTT once, but it was really good. My only complaint was how dark and loud it was. We were often, having to look and look at something to see what it was. The food, specifically the salad, was delicious!! I want to do the GFC for lunch one day this trip. I have heard great things about it, but I really want to do Kona again. We have never done GFC, but have done Kona twice. It is just SO SO GOOD!!! We have not done San Angel Inn, but have done La Hacienda, or maybe it is the other way around?!?! We have been to the one that is outside on the water. IT. WAS. DELICIOUS!!! We also had a spectacular view of Illuminations with our window seat;) I am pretty certain I discovered the deliciousness that an Island Sunset encompasses on our last trip!! Have not done 50s, but tried to get a reservation this trip, but no go. I am starting to get concerned by the number of booked restaurants there are this trip. Everything I have looked at indicates the crowd levels will be 2-3; however, the limited number of dining reservations indicates otherwise. I am really hoping it is because there was a free dining offer for our dates. DH and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year, and have a reservation booked at CG for our last night. We are still contemplating keeping this reservation, or eating/drinking around the work in EPCOT. I am thinking EPCOT may win out.
It amazes me how much babies change from month to month. Love his timeline pictures!!
A very similar painting situation happened to us as well. When painting our bedroom, I had the paint sitting on a step stool because I was doing the trim. DH thought it would be funny to come around the corner and scare me. Well, the result, was new flooring. I told him that is what he gets because I HATE IT when he scares me!! The paint soaked through carpet padding, and always the way to the sub floor. He swears to this day it was intentional because I had been begging for hardwood floors in our bedroom. I assured him it was not, but I had just wished really hard for it ;) pixiedust:
I am so happy that your mom is able to go with you. My parents go with us each trip and it is so much fun. Really the only time we see each other is in the morning, and we always meet up for dinner, but it is still a great time. It is nice to be able to do our own thing, but yet, we get to build more memories with them. They will certainly be joining us when grandchildren are in the picture as well!!
The first DVC we stayed at was OKW, and would go back in a heartbeat!! The resort itself is so relaxing and beautiful!!!
I am a huge planner, and have already picked out baby gear. I admit that I am sort of embarrassed by this; however, I told DH I had rather start researching and picking now, than to only have 7-8 months to decide. I can’t imagine how fast that time FLIES by!! Anywhoo, this will be the stroller that we get, but I want it in Kiwi
Aren’t split stays so much fun!! We typically start at a Value and move to DVC. We stay value now, figuring we will want no less than a moderate with a LO. I have a goal of staying at every Disney resort.
Luckily, we don’t have the where to eat issue. Typically Mom and Dad have only 1 place they really want to each, always Crystal Palace and most recently, DH has been requesting either WCC or Trails End. I can deal with that!! We haven’t done Tuskers or Bona, but do love Saana. I thought about trying Jiko or Boma this trip, but I don’t know if we will be able to fit it in; however, now that I am thinking about, I might need to change that.
Love love LOVE the Dalmatian outfit!! DH is a firefighter, so yeah.. it is a win for us!!
I am so sorry for your Mom, but it is amazing that she has such an optimistic perspective on the situation.
We have never flown airtran or southwest, but are thinking about flying it in January to Sanibel. I am sort of leery about the no assigned seat thing with southwest though. Isn’t ME the best sight to be seen when getting to MCO though!?!? We will be driving this time, like most times, but we are always on the lookout for them when we get close. It sort of seals the deal that we are almost there!!
Great deal on the room upgrade!! Hopefully it is a sign for pixie dust to come!! I had never heard of Mousersize, but I must say, it had a good motive!! I have also gained about 70 lbs between various medications I am been on, and just horrible eating while in college and working night shift shortly thereafter. DH has also put on weight and lost muscle since moving from being a contractor, where he was extremely active, to being an insurance agent, sitting behind a desk. He is also a firefighter, so he does get physical activity with work, but it isn’t nearly comparable to when he was a contractor. I just ordered P90X and we are planning to do this together. We have starting walking at night over the past month or so, but when it getting dark so much earlier, it is difficult to get home from work in time. We plan to do this 5 days a week, and also start eating organic/natural again. This is the hardest part. I love to cook, but I like to do it at my pace, not because I have to. Eating organic/natural will require mass cooking on the weekend, and reheating during the week. I have done this method (Richard Simmons/Biggest Loser DVD instead of P90X) before and lost about 25lbs, but then life intervened and I got side tracked. Now it is all hands on deck, and battle stations are manned!! DH and I are tired of being a prisoner in our own bodies.
We are looking into having 5 year anniversary pictures done while at Disney. A 45 minute session, which comes with a Photopass CD is $150. That is the same cost as a Photopass CD, so why not, right?!?! We are planning for the GF or Poly, but leaning more towards GF.
Sorry this is so long, but I had 10 pages to get caught up on:goodvibes I can’t wait to read more about your planning and especially our TR. Enjoy every minute of it!!

Baby Update:
tumblr_m1qkq1un4S1r49bh7o1_500.gif

Jonah is 6 months today! I wish I could find my camera cord so I can post his growth chart photos. I know I sound like a broken record, but his first year is going by so quickly. He’s FINALLY putting on a decent amount of weight in between his check-ups. My little string bean is now 16 lbs 4 oz and 26” tall.

Trip Update:
Day 2 Plans -

I think one of the best moments during a Disney trip is the first time you wake-up in your resort room.

gif-8.gif

You have your whole vacation before you and you’re already inside the Disney bubble.

Jonah loves “talking” on the phone, so I think having a character wake-up call will be fun.

Once we’re up and out the door our destination for the morning will be Animal Kingdom.
600-treeoflife.jpg

Photo from wdwinfo.com - I don’t know what happened to all of our pictures.

Our ideal Animal Kingdom morning would include:
Child swap for Expedition Everest
Kilimanjaro Safari
Festival of the Lion King
Maharajah Jungle Trek

I might offer to let Drew stay at AK while I take Jonah back to OKW in the afternoon. Drew loves EE and would probably ride it all day if he could.

After our late afternoon break at the resort we’ll head to Hollywood Studios.

Hollywood Studios - Happy Birthday ToT!! by Cory Disbrow, on Flickr
Our plans for the evening will be dinner at 50’s and enjoying the lights. If we decide to try FP+ we’ll likely use our fastpasses in the evening at HS. I’m not exactly clear on how this will work, I know we will have three, but I’m not sure which rides we can reserve. If anyone has done this and can enlighten me, I would appreciate it!

Our ideal HS evening would include:
Osborne lights
Dinner at 50s
FP+ for TSMM, ToT and/or RnR

I just wanted to post a quick :welcome:
Thank you so much for taking the time to catch-up on my PTR and all of your kind words!

I think WDW would be a great place for a 1st Birthday, and definitely will be a memorable experience for you and your DH.

I think renting DVC and military tickets would be a great way to go to WDW. Drew really likes the dining plan, while I'm not the biggest fan. I find myself ordering way too many sweets since it's included.

How fun that you and your DH have a tradition of getting ice cream at the Plaza. I have read good things about the plaza and hope to try it this trip. Since we can't get a cinnamon roll at the MSB, we are now without a MK tradition. :goodvibes

I will catch-up on the rest later today. Unfortunately I have to go to work today. :crazy2:

Yay! Glad to hear Jonah is doing so well - I cant wait to see pictures.

Your day's plans sound great! So cute that Jonah likes talking on the phone. :0)

D~

Great stats for his checkup. I like day 2 plans. Great way for him to start his day with a character wake up call. Animal Kingdom day yay!! I am excited to bring my girls here.

Thanks D~! He LOVES the phone, he gets phone calls pretty regularly from his grandmothers. He's quite the popular guy around here.

I think Animal Kingdom with little ones will be a blast. Your trip is less than a year away now! :cheer2:

I'm glad Jonah is doing well and growing! 6 months already, time is flying!
Me too! His 4 month check-up wasn't the best, but I think now that we have his reflux under control he will continue to thrive.

Tick tock get those adorable photos up Ashley!! :rotfl2: Seriously though, I agree, time goes wayyy to fast - especially that first year since when you think about it they go from sleeping practically all day to crawling, walking (some times) and eating like a little person all in 12 months! And those little baby giggles at that age - oh my gosh!! The best mommy moments are in that first year.... Oh man, I'm gonna make myself cry. :lovestruc

Anyhoo... on to your park plans. Starting at AK and moving to DHS that sounds like one of the days in the park we had. :) For our December trip we plan to have dinner at 50's PT and see the lights as well. I have never seen them so it will be a first.

That's sweet of you to think about giving Drew some solo park time while you have some down time with Jonah.

Happy 6 months baby Jonah!!!

Day 2 looks like a great plan and you just got me thinking. We were originally going to do a half day at Animal Kingdom and then rest at the resort, and then a half day at Hollywood Studios and go into Epcot for Dinner, but I am thinking or us AK may be a better day to do Epcot for Dinner. What do you think? Which park is easier to do a half day (or maybe 3/4 day) AK or HS?

You're so right, it seems like every week he is doing something new. Today for the first time he got so excited to see me when I came home from work. He stroked my face while cooing and smiling, it was definitely a special mommy moment. :lovestruc

How exciting that you and Em get to see the lights for the first time. I love you can visit WDW many times and still experience something new.

Thank you, Drew has definitely earned some solo park time. :goodvibes

Thanks Kate!

Hmm... I think it really depends on if you plan to hit all the shows at HS or not. We usually can leave AK after a late lunch having accomplished everything, including Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo. But we've left HS at 11 after hitting all the rides and watching Beauty and the Beast.
