~ A 21 month old, a celebrity sighting, & a whole lotta food~2 week trip~ 2/28 update

When I last left you, Dylan had caught a 15 minute nap in the car and that kept him from taking his normal afternoon nap back at the condo. After a while, I finally got him up from his bed and started to get us ready to go back to the MK. I have to admit that I was a little cranky since I had planned on taking a nap today too and it didn’t happen. We left at 5:30 to go back to the park.

When we got there, we headed to Fantasyland to get a FP for Peter Pan because there had been outrageous lines for it every time we stopped by. The FP time was for 10:30 and we didn’t know how long Dylan would hold up with no nap, so we decided to skip it. I have to say that I love this ride but I don’t understand why it is SUCH a big deal that it has all of the crazy wait times. I don’t think we ever ended up riding this on our trip, and that was disappointing, but I know that we will go on it the next time we go to DL (usually the longest wait time there is around 30 min or so).

Since it was close and we were hungry, we went to Pinocchio’s Village Haus again for dinner. My parents had never eaten here before and we had such a good experience the other night that we were happy to eat here again. In fact, we got exactly the same food and sat in exactly the same booth as the first time. As soon as Dylan saw the booth, he knew exactly what he was supposed to do. He crawled right up and got in the window and started waving at the boats again. It’s funny how something so simple caused him so much joy.

He still wants to dip all of his food into something!

ry%3D480

We decided to go on It’s a Small World since it was right next door and there was no line. It was just as fun as the first time. My parents enjoyed watching Dylan take it all in. It was interesting to watch him do something that we had just done a few days earlier. Just like when we were eating dinner, he seemed to know where he was and he understood it a little better. So much fun watching him comprehend that we were riding on a boat and seeing all of the different things on the rides! He’s becoming a WDW veteran already! LOL

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

We wandered through Fantasyland a little more and then headed over to see how long the wait was for Haunted Mansion. There was about a 10 minute wait. We have taken Dylan on this before when he was much younger but now that he is more able to understand what he is seeing, we didn’t want to take him this time. So we were going to do the baby swap thing with my parents, but then they decided they didn’t want to go on it. They took Dylan with them and went to find some caramel corn and a cold drink.

So Todd & I went on to HM and waited maybe 10 minutes to get on. We realized this was the first ride on the trip that we had ridden by ourselves so far! We thought that by now we would have gone on a lot of the roller coasters, but so far….not one. The line moved quickly but I have to say that I don’t understand why it bottlenecks the way that it does right before you get on the ride. There has got to be a better way than to have a wide area with a TON of people standing together, and then have everyone trim down into a very small space. All that does is make everyone push each other and a lot of groups were getting separated. At DL, it is more of a gradual funneling until you are actually stepping on the ride. Just an observation!

This ride was so much fun!!! We love all of the new stuff that they have added since our last trip. The staircases on the ceiling with the glowing footprints and the floating Madame Leota head….and the attic scene. WOW! What a great set-up to see the bride in all of the different wedding photos with all of the different guys. Then when you actually see her and she has the axe….! That was SO COOL! We couldn’t stop talking about how creepy she was. When we got off the ride we were so excited because we saw so many new things that it felt like we had ridden a new ride.

ry%3D480

We rushed off to find my parents to tell them about all of the new stuff (since they have ridden the HM at DL many times). We were talking really fast and trying to tell them about all of the new stuff and we are telling them all about the bride and her axe. You can tell that they were not that impressed since we are saying things like, “all of these guys in the pictures are having their heads disappear” etc. etc “…and then you see the bride and she has this axe! Isn’t that so cool!?!?!” My dad looks really confused and goes, “I guess….not really.” It was so funny! Apparently, you had to see it for yourself. LOL.

We decided to hit up Tomorrowland since we hadn’t been there yet, and on the way we stopped to have our picture taken by a Photopass person. We ended up not getting any PP pictures because we didn’t have enough taken throughout the trip to make it worth buying the CD, but we had her take one w/ our camera. It would have turned out great if my mom was looking at the camera, but she was paying attention to Dylan.

ry%3D480

This is one of my favorite pictures that was taken on our whole trip, compliments of Todd. It is so peaceful with the castle and the reflection, it is the perfect time of day….sigh. I love it!

Walking into Tomorrowland

ry%3D480

We got a FP for Buzz Lightyear with a return time of 9:05 and it was 8:15 so we went and rode the Carousel of Progress. This ride has such nostalgia for me and it is nice that it has been kept for so long. It is classic Disney and deserves to be kept around. We were waiting to go on it and were watching the little movie that they show before you go in. It was so cool to see Walt singing the theme song to the ride w/ the 2 other guys that were composing it. It was very touching to see how enthusiastic he was about the song and knowing that it was the same song that still plays in the attraction.

ry%3D480

It was a pretty quiet crowd during the ride, and was probably half full with people. The only noisy person was Dylan, who was trying to get the attention of the dog up on the stage.

We still had some time to kill before BL, so we shopped at Merchant of Venus. They had these cool little cars that were designed off of different characters or movies. They had a Mickey car, a Pluto car, a Star Wars car, etc. They were all $5 each and I thought it was a pretty good deal considering all of the details on each car. We showed them to Dylan and he kept pointing at different cars to hold and play with. We told him that he could have one car and he had to choose which one he wanted. He handed back the Star Wars car and held onto….. the Buzz Lightyear one. It was so cute to watch him make a decision. He really thought about it before he handed one back. To his credit, he picked the cooler looking car out of those 2. Here is a picture of it.

ry%3D480

We used our FP at Buzz Lightyear and pretty much walked right onto the ride. Dylan sat on Todd’s lap and Todd still beat me by about 900 points. I said it was because I had to steer the car. The place that I have found that gives you the most points is the big orange robot. If you spin the car around to look at him once you pass him, he has a target on the back of his hand that is worth major points. ;)

Next, we went on to the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway because I had seen some really cute father/son pictures on OneTreeHillAddicts TR with her husband and son and I thought it was such a cute bonding moment for them. After that, I really wanted Todd to take Dylan on his first car ride so that is where we headed. Mom & dad went to find a spot to watch the fireworks and we got in line. This line should not have taken as long as it did but they were loading in a lot of people that were not standing in the regular line. It was probably a wheelchair access lane or something, but there were times where we stood still for 5 minutes or more. Dylan was taking it all in, and I thought that he might be a little too scared to ride (since it was so loud). I kept asking him if he wanted to ride in the car w/ daddy and he would nod his head yes, but not say anything.

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

It was finally their turn and I snapped pictures while they got loaded in. A CM came over & gave Todd a driver’s license for Dylan, which was so cute. Then, off they went. When they came back, Todd told me that Dylan never got scared but he hung on pretty tight the whole time. He said that it could have been his driving…he was trying to keep one hand on Dylan and he said he kept banging into the pole that runs under the car. He should have just let Dylan drive! Here are the pictures, which I just love.

Getting his Driver’s License

ry%3D480

Right when they got out of the car, the fireworks started. I had a beautiful view where I was standing on the bridge above where the cars drive under, but we moved after a couple of minutes because I’m sure they don’t want you to stand up there. We found my parents and watched the fireworks from Tomorrowland. There are a lot of trees that interrupt your view, but they seemed to be exploding right above us. It was beautiful! I was worried that Dylan would be scared, but he never cried once. I put him in his stroller and he felt content and once he pulled the shade over his head, but he was not scared at all.

ry%3D480

He fell asleep in his stroller right when the fireworks were over. He had been such a good boy today, especially when we remembered that he had not taken a nap. We hung out for a while in Tomorrowland because we knew the crowds would be horrible trying to leave the park. The problem was that it was so humid! It was almost 10:00 at night, completely dark out, and it was miserable. We were sweating like crazy and we had to keep moving just to feel the air to cool us off. We stopped on the bridge by Tomorrowland and took some pictures of the castle while waiting for the crowds to loosen up a little.

At 10:30, we joined the masses that were leaving. It was a very slow process getting down Main Street. When we got to the train station, we snapped this picture because it looked so pretty and peaceful in the middle of the chaos.

ry%3D480

There were so many people around! We had to wait a while for the ferry and you could tell that everyone was just miserable due to the heat. There were crying kids everywhere. I’m so glad that Dylan was sleeping. We finally got on a ferry and we were packed in there like sardines. Then we waited a while for the tram. When I picked Dylan up out of his stroller, he was soaking wet from sweat and his diaper had leaked. When we got to the car, I opened up the back and laid him down in it. I stripped him down and put a diaper on him and put him in the car seat. He was so hot and I felt so bad for him!

We got home at 11:35….it took us an hour from when we started to leave to when we actually walked in the door. It was a long journey and we all were worn out by that point. I put Dylan in his pajamas and he was asleep in 2 minutes. We all took showers and finally got to bed at 12:45. It was a tough ending to the day, but we had a wonderful day at the MK.

I just love this update!!! It did seem like the perfect:lovestruc
day. The pics are beautiful!!! I especially love the castle/reflection
and the peaceful train station one, that one is quite unique.
What a good little boy dylan is:littleangel: I am certain you are
so glad you took dylan on this trip, he may not remember it but
mommy, daddy and grandparents will!!! I cannot wait for more!!!:woohoo:

Ahhh..what a nice day at the MK! :cloud9: Aw, he looks so cute waving to everyone at Pinnochio's. Whenever we're on IASW, we always make sure to wave at the kids in the windows. I know little things like that make their day!

The new additions to the HM are awesome! The bride is SO freaky now!

Love those pics with the Castle. I love this time of the night. The sun is setting and the lights are just starting to come on. :)

How cute he got his "driver's license"!

I TOTALLY agree with the bottleneck thing at the Haunted Mansion. The first time we went on it this trip, it was ridiculous, we couldn't even get out of the room with the little pre-show! The second time, it wasn't even past the railings. I think if the ride breaks down while you're in the room and it gets backed up, it causes that big bottleneck.

Glad to hear Dylan has been so good! Too cute about waving to the small world boats. Can't wait to hear more!

Great update Alison. I love the pic of the castle that Todd took. Gorgeous. Dylan's car ride looked like fun. I know that Todd will always remember even if Dylan doesn't. The car he picked is so cute.

I know you are thankful he remained so good for you without a nap. That had to make for an enjoyable evening.

I love the updated HM ride. Sorry your parents just didn't quite catch it. I agree it probably would have scared Dylan a little. You never know what goes through those little minds and how they perceive things.

What a fantastic update. I totally agree with you on the Haunted Mansion ride. I absolutely hate the whole "herd" feeling you get when you are waiting to get on the ride.

You got some great pictures.

I loved the story of you guys telling your parents about the differences on HM and having them not really get what you're so excited about.:rotfl: I've been there! What fun that you and Todd got to do a ride by yourselves. I agree, Dylan may have gotten scared.

Your castle picture is frame worthy. Good job, Todd!

Dylan picked a very cool car. I bet my little boy would like those, too.

Looking forward to hearing more.popcorn::

I'm loving your trip report. Your family is adorable. We're taking my DD who will be 27 months in October so it's interesting to see your travels with your little one.

Great day! You are so lucky that you have a cooperative baby! Some of the kids you see in the parks are...well, let's just say not nearly as good! LOL

Love the update, those pictures of the castle are amazing!
I totally agree with you about HM, there has to be a better way to transition the line, I always end up getting stepped on and pushed!:confused3 The bride with the axe is probably my favorite update!
The pics of Todd and Dylan driving are adorable. What a wonderful memory that will be!

Great updates. We had a simialr awessome night at the MK. Such great memories.

Dylan is very well behaved. I don't know how we got so lucky, but his personality has been very happy & go with the flow since he was born. The main reason that I am writing this TR is for him to have the "memory" of his first trip. :goodvibes

He loved when people waved back to him on IASW. The HM rocked! We already liked it before and it was so much fun to see all of the new stuff.

Dusk is the best time of day at any WDW park. It's nice that most of the pictures that you take during that time turn out so well. My camera likes dusk time. ;)

Loving your trip report so far! Your pictures are beautiful and Dylan is such a cutie!!!!

Aww thanks so much! Thanks for reading. :)

Seriously, the HM line bugs me! Everyone is walking like a herd of cattle and then it gets tighter & tighter....I'm glad that I am not claustrophobic. That would be a miserable situation for someone who is.

Dylan was so well behaved on this trip. It made everything go so smoothly. We were lucky!

First of all that bottleneck by Indiana Jones and into Adventureland is the WORST! I worked at DL and it would get so bad in that area that we would have to make it one way traffic on really busy days!

MK, I :worship: to Dylan for being such a trooper. It does seems like you got alot done.

Don't you totally miss COP at DL? I mean, America Sings was okay, but not nearly as good as COP.

I think the reason that Peter Pan lines at WDW are so long is the fact that there are so many fewer dark rides in Fantasyland. WDW has no Alice in Wonderland, no Mr Toads and no Pinocchio. It also has no Casey's Jr and no Storybook.

Humidity is the worst. Sorry it was so hot and sticky.

I'm so glad that I pushed for them to do the car ride together. It just seems like a father/son bonding thing and it was so cute watching them drive away together. Sweet.

We took Dylan on HM when he was 4 months old and when he was 14 months old at DL for the Christmas version that isn't quite so scary. This time he was much more aware of what was going on. I think it will be a while until we take him on it now.

What a fantastic update. I totally agree with you on the Haunted Mansion ride. I absolutely hate the whole "herd" feeling you get when you are waiting to get on the ride.

You got some great pictures.

Yeah, you always hear a person saying "Mooo" in the middle of all of those people, so you know that other people feel like they are being herded too. Not a very original response, but gets the point across.

My parents were seriously NOT getting how cool the bride was. I don't think that they like stuff that is "gross", so it probably didn't help that we were describing the situation in great detail. Oh well, at least Todd & I had a good time.

Those cars were so cool. I wish that we would have bought more for him since they were only $5. They are really heavy & durable and he really likes to play with it. Next time....

I'm loving your trip report. Your family is adorable. We're taking my DD who will be 27 months in October so it's interesting to see your travels with your little one.

Welcome! Thanks so much. We had a great time with him on this trip, and I'm so glad that we didn't wait until he was older.

Great day! You are so lucky that you have a cooperative baby! Some of the kids you see in the parks are...well, let's just say not nearly as good! LOL

We know how lucky we are. Sometimes he shocks me and I wonder how we got so blessed.

Love the update, those pictures of the castle are amazing!

We hadn't even realized that the HM had been updated so it was a nice surprise! The bride was so creepy & fun!

Great updates. We had a simialr awessome night at the MK. Such great memories.

This night was a great night. You are right that some great memories came out of it. The MK is definitely magical. :cloud9:

Wow! I can't imagine that area being one way. I bet that made a lot of people angry. I'm sure that wasn't a fun day for you.

I'm so glad that COP is still around at WDW. I even prefer America Sings to what is there now. It just doesn't seem to have a good purpose now.

You are probably right about the dark rides. I forget how much better Fantasyland at DL. It makes it easier to skip certain things because I know the next time at DL we will be sure to get on it.

Fantastic pictures!! What a great job Dylan did with no nap!!:goodvibes

I can totally understand your Mom looking at Dylan in the picture. Natural Grandma instinct.;)

I love the picture Todd got of the castle with the reflection! Gorgeous! I would so have that framed.

How cute to give Dylan a drivers license! Those pictures are adorable.

Dylan was better than I could have imagined with no nap. I can't believe that he didn't even cry during the fireworks. They were so loud and he just pulled his shade over his head in his stroller.

I think I am going to frame that one. Todd's office has a lot of our Disney art and that would fit in well there.

We have kept the driver's license and we're going to put it in the scrapbook on the page with these pictures. Whenever it is that I get around to doing the scrapbook. :rolleyes1

I haven't posted because it's been hectic over hear as well.. but your family has been in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm glad that everyone is excited and a happy ending is in store. :goodvibes

How did Todd's birthday celebration go? I looovee my weekends..

Great update on the MK morning, sometimes you post photos and I think to myself: Have ever even seen that? LOL it's funny how much you can miss in those parks.. no matter how many times you've been.

Even tho she was paying attention to Dylan, that's still a nice photo of your family. I like it. On our past trip, FOR THE FIRST TIME, I took photos of the castle with the reflection.. it truly is a beautiful shot.

It usually takes us around an hour to an hour and half to take a bus back to POP.. it can be frustrating.. I try to not be miserable about it....looks like yous had a great day in the Magic Kingdom.
