~ A 21 month old, a celebrity sighting, & a whole lotta food~2 week trip~ 2/28 update

Ahhh. You made it!:cloud9: I love the pictures of your little guy waiting for the monorail. You can see the wonder in his face.:goodvibes

I LOL at your Taco Bell spill. That is so me.

Kudos to DH for doing the Wal marting. Well rested Dylan? Check. Great condo and car? Check. Groceries purchased? Check. Suitcases unpacked? Check. Sounds like its time for a theme park to me!:thumbsup2

It is guaranteed that if I eat food in the car, it ends up on some part of my clothing. I should have known better but I was too excited to drive around. :) I love when all of the errands are done. That's when vacation really begins to me. :woohoo:

I found your PTR about a week before you left so I didn't subscribe, but I'm in now! Anything to support a fellow Californian.

Hi and welcome! Thanks for jumping in. You are so lucky to live so much closer to Disneyland! Do you have an AP? We used to have them when we lived in Southern Cal, but now that we are up north, it doesn't make as much sense.

Awww! I love the pictures of Dylan's 1st monorail ride! You can tell he absolutely loved it! :cloud9:

He had a great time. At first he was really quiet and just took it all in, but then he got more brave. By the end of the trip he was always pointing out the monorails when they would go by.

Awww!! Dylan's 1st monorail ride--how sweet! And the Poly--I miss that place sooo badly! Great choice!! Can't wait to read more!

You were so lucky to get to stay at the Poly. I can see how you could get homesick for a place like that. :cloud9:

Okay, I just had a big grin on my face reading this update...It's amazing how much your little guy reminds me of my little guy! I can't wait for his first trip with us next year!

You are going to have so much fun with him. How old is he again? It is so much fun to see everything through their eyes for the first time.

Wow! Great upgrade! Love your new "home"!:goodvibes

Dylan was so cute with the tiki statue and standing up on the monorail! That is so funny about him picking up the phone and talking. My 15 mo old grandson makes everything in to a phone and babbles on!!

Looking forward to the rest of your day.

Dylan is the same way about the phones. If he can't get to one of our real phones, then any object will do. Sometimes he will just put his hand up to his face/ear area and start jabbering away.

I cant wait to read about which celebrity you saw... When we were in Disneyland in Dec 08 we saw Travis Barker and Family, my son (14) was shy to approach him but he was right in front of us with another kid who had approached him and he was sooooo nice. :cloud9:

We have seen Travis Barker there too! It was quite a few years ago at DCA and he was with a cute blonde (who I think is his wife (or ex?) now). He was walking around saying hi to people but they had a couple of security people with them so they weren't bothered too much. He seemed like a pretty nice guy. I wonder if he goes there a lot because I've heard of other people seeing him there too. I will give you warning that my celebrity sighting happens later in my trip, so it might be a while to you find out who it is. Sorry for the suspense. :)

aww your son is adorable! I love that he kept sneaking away to use the phone, my DD is 21 months and LOVES the phone, any phone actually, cell phones, house phones, whatever she can get her hands on. She calls it a "TACO" for some reason lol

I'm loving your TR so far. I was thinking about writing a TR for our May trip but I don't think I'd be too great at it. Can't wait to hear more!

Thanks for reading! What is your DD birthday? Dylan's is Sept 13. That is so funny about calling it a taco. That is so random!! But it is also one of those very sweet things that only kids can come up with. You should totally write a TR! I wasn't going to do it either but it has become something that I look forward to doing. It helps me remember all of the special things that happened on the trip.

I'm joining in! I am loving your TR so far.

Dylan is just the cutest!

I can't believe the upgrade you scored, that is so awesome. What a beautiful place to stay for two weeks.

I love that you were really able to enjoy Dylan's first monorail ride and not worry about rushing to a park. :goodvibes

So happy you guys were upgraded!! That's awesome! :thumbsup2 He looked so excited to ride that monorail! How fun :goodvibes

Thanks for the tips on the plane ride - we're lucky, our plane ride is only about 2 hours & 15 minutes, so it shouldn't be too bad. I'm just hoping she naps on the way to the airport & is well rested for the plane ride...or sleeps on the plane! LOL ;)

Can't wait to hear what happens next! :)

Wow, that sure was a long plane trip to Orlando.

My dh always makes me go check out any room, no matter where we stay, to do the sniff test. If I even smell a hint of smoke, he refuses to stay there. Glad you got an awesome room.

Sounds like your first magical day was fun.
We ate that same Taco Bell, when we came back from the Space shuttle launch. I got a stomache from all the car fumes and car sickness. It was a really hot hazy evening. Anyway, I unbuttoned my pants. When we got to Taco Bell, the boys asked if I wanted anything. They all went inside. I decided I was feeling better, so I got out of the truck, but when I got out, my shorts fell to my ankles. I dove so fast back into the truck. I called them on my phone, and they were all laughing because they saw what happened.
So, just another Taco Bell story. And, I always manage to drop something on my shirt too.

I will give you warning that my celebrity sighting happens later in my trip, so it might be a while to you find out who it is. Sorry for the suspense.
Awww, your title caught my eye. We were told that there are at least 20 VIPS in the parks on any given day. They may not be an actor or an actress, but a ball player, government official ect. If you want to stalk them out (I shouldn't say this), but most pick up their tour guide in the morning. At the MK it is next to the train station. Some VIP's, pay really big bucks and their tour guide will pick them up at their resorts on or off property.

You know I don't have a DL AP anymore. I wasn't going enough to make it worth my while. When they finish the DCA redo I will probably re-up with an AP again. Now you can make monthly payments as well so it's even easier to get an AP.....

My goodness, I go out of town for a few days and I get way behind. Let's see: 1) Super great that you guys got a free upgrade in the rental car and your room; 2) I found it really funny that your husband said he worked his magic with the person to get the upgrade. That is soooo something my husand would say. I usually just laugh and say "turn on the charm". Hey, if it works, it works. 3) I love the fact that you kinda just went with the flow and did whatever. It turned out to be magical since you got to visit two gorgeous resorts and see Dylan ride the monorail for the first time.

Hum, I think that's about it other than the fact that I still think ya'll are a super cute family.:thumbsup2

this is one of my favorite recent TR's. always entertaining and your son is adorable! Love reading about all the upgrades, I'm hoping my DF and I get that lucky on our honeymoon in december! :)

Thanks so much for reading! We were SO lucky to get upgraded. We spent a lot of time there, so it was nice to have the extra space.

BTW - I love all of the titles to your TR's in your signature! They are so creative.

So happy you guys were upgraded!! That's awesome! :thumbsup2 He looked so excited to ride that monorail! How fun :goodvibes

Hopefully the plane ride will go smoothly for you. Any amount of time on a plane seems like a really long time when they are acting up or crying though. It's like the minutes creep by. My bag was so heavy w/ stuff for him, but he would always want the thing that I would not expect him to want. Go figure!

LOL that was a great Taco Bell story! Why is it when something embarrassing happens, there is always someone to witness it? :rotfl: That's pretty crazy about the 20 VIP's a day. It makes sense since anyone with kids will visit at some point. I just don't think of those people planning out a trip to WDW, you know?

You know I don't have a DL AP anymore. I wasn't going enough to make it worth my while. When they finish the DCA redo I will probably re-up with an AP again. Now you can make monthly payments as well so it's even easier to get an AP.....

The monthly payments are a good idea. I am excited for DCA to be done. We were there last Thanksgiving and all of the water was drained in the back and there were walls up everywhere. I've heard good things about what is coming.

My goodness, I go out of town for a few days and I get way behind. Aww, thanks for the nice comments. Yeah, when he said he turned on the charm I burst out laughing. I told him, "Hey, if you still got it, you might as well use it. I just wish I could have been a fly on the wall to witness it." I'm so glad that we decided to do something we hadn't planned. It was a good reminder to me that usually the best memories are the things that you can't plan.

this is one of my favorite recent TR's. always entertaining and your son is adorable! Love reading about all the upgrades, I'm hoping my DF and I get that lucky on our honeymoon in december! :)

Wow! That's a great compliment. :goodvibes We were really lucky on the upgrades, which is unusual for us. I guess that's because we usually don't ask or complain, because I don't want to be a nuisance. You should definitely mention that it is your honeymoon. I bet they have a couple of things set aside for that type of situation.

With all of the errands done and Dylan had his nap, and we were ready to go do something, ANYTHING! Dylan woke up at 5:45 pm so we got ready and left for the MK at 6:30. We got into the park at 7:00 and headed straight to Fantasyland. We had decided that the first couple of days of the trip would be focused on things for Dylan. Once my parents got there, it would be harder to concentrate on kiddie things only.

We stopped and got a FP for Winnie the Pooh and then headed over to Toontown so Dylan could meet Mickey Mouse. This was another “first” that I had really been looking forward to. We walked through his house and waited about 20 minutes to see him. It was hot in there! There was air-conditioning but a lot of bodies, plus the heat from outside. We finally walked into the little room and saw that Mickey and Minnie Mouse were there. Dylan just stopped and stared so Todd picked him up so that he could see them better (there were about 3 families in front of us).

Waiting in line

Seeing Mickey for the first time

ry%3D480

He kept squirming so Todd put him down and he immediately ran under the rope and tried to get to them. I chased him down and told him we had to wait our turn. He kept waving at them from the line. So cute!

So finally it is his turn, he ran up….and stopped a couple of feet away from them and threw his hand up to High-5 them. Then he wanted to “pound it” with them with his fist, but Minnie didn’t understand what he wanted. They both got down and tried to draw him in and he got shy. I was videotaping and Todd was taking pictures so he was up there by himself and he started looking unsure. So they started playing with him and he cautiously was playing back. Finally he hugged them but you could tell he was still not totally comfortable.

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

Then we took a family shot and our turn was over. As soon as we walked away Dylan started waving again and trying to get back to them. I guess that he loves them… just from a distance. :) It was a really wonderful moment even though he was a little scared. I’m really glad that we made this a priority on this night, because that was the only time we saw Mickey up close. The lines for him during the rest of our trip were so huge that we just didn’t do it.

ry%3D480

Next, Dylan played on the little playground in Toontown. They have slides and a little house to go in. He was having a great time, but he totally collided with this other little girl. They both were running and looking the other way and they literally bounced off of each other. She was bigger than him so she kept running but he ended up on the ground crying. If he hadn’t been crying it would have been funny because he flew through the air a little bit before he landed. We have it on video and when I saw it I started cracking up. I know, I’m a terrible mom! :rotfl: A few tears later and he was playing again. I checked on the little girl and she was just fine. Tough girl!

ry%3D480

After some play time we headed over use the FP at Winnie the Pooh and we waited about 5 minutes. It’s a cute little ride and Dylan watches that cartoon so he recognized the characters. It’s funny because all of the pictures we took on this day have him looking a little stunned. He enjoyed the rides but in the pictures he always has this look on his face like he is in a trance or something. LOL

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

After this we were hungry so we headed over to Pinocchi’s Village Haus. We all shared the chicken nugget meal and the Mediterranean salad. The food was pretty good and there was plenty for all 3 of us. This was my first meal in the parks and I forgot to take pictures! We were able to get the table that looks into the Small World ride but is off to the side by itself, not in the main room. There was no one else in the room with us so it was nice & quiet. Dylan was standing on the bench waving to all of the boats, so at the end of the meal I asked him if he wanted to ride the boats. He looked at me like I was the coolest mom ever.

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

The line for Small World was non-existent and we walked right on. He really soaked it all up, jaw hanging open and everything. He kept pointing out all of the birds throughout the ride and yelling “duck”. (Every bird is a duck right now, by the way.) By the end of the ride he was really animated and dancing in my lap to the music.

Now I have to say that I will probably do a lot of comparisons to Disneyland in this TR because that is where I have “grown up” in my love of Disney. My family would go one time a year when I was little and then Todd & I were AP holders when we lived in Southern Calif. So I apologize when I go into my DL vs WDW talks, but I just can’t help myself. For It’s a Small World, I have to say that the Disneyland version is better to me. I can’t explain why…. in DL they do a Christmas overlay to the ride for the holiday season and it is so great. The song is mixed in w/ Christmas carols and they completely re-do the inside in holiday theming. Also, the outside of the ride is crazy with Christmas lights & lights projected on the exterior building and they do a lighting ceremony every night. We took some video last holiday season. I will have to figure out how to post it for you to see.

Ok, one last thing to note about Small World. We were sitting in the boat waiting to get off, and I noticed a woman coming down the ramp to get in line. Let’s just say that the humidity had not been kind to her hair. It was…..very big. I told Todd it reminded me of that episode of Friends when they go to Barbados and Monica’s hair gets totally out of control. He said it wasn’t as bad as that, but I said it would be soon. I felt sympathy for her, as we all have had humidity hair at some point.

We wanted to leave before Wishes started to beat the crowd, but the Carousel had no line so I rode it with Dylan. Todd said the whole time we were riding, this woman next to him was yelling at her kid to look at the camera and he wouldn’t. Like, shouting right in Todd’s ear. When the kid finally looked, someone happened to walk in front of her camera and she made a big deal about it even though it was an accident. The offending person was standing right next to her and this woman kept saying how “someone” ruined the picture. I can’t believe how rude some people are!

We start making our way down Main Street like a herd of cattle. SpectroMagic had just ended and people were getting ready for Wishes. It was packed! The problem is that people were trying so hard to hold their spot that they wouldn’t let people get to the street to leave. Again, I can’t believe how rude some people can be. And they wonder why their kids end up being so rude and disrespectful! Ok, off my soapbox now.

We decided to try to get some dessert at the Kona café so we took the monorail over. Once we got to the TTC the power shut off while we were still onboard. We waited and the power kept going on & off. They finally came on the speaker and said they were “re-setting a safety program” and we moved forward at a snail’s pace (stopping for periods of time along the way) until we finally got to the Poly. That’s never happened before! The long ride gave us plenty of time to hear this couple arguing behind us. Apparently the hubby had wanted to go somewhere by himself but ended up not going. Problem is that the wife was still grumbling about it and he couldn’t understand why she was mad. Here is how a little bit went.

Him : It wouldn’t have been a problem. I would have been back in time.

Her : Well, what if you weren’t?

Him : I could have called you and let you know how late I would be. But I wouldn’t have been late.

Her : Oh, called me? Like we have had stellar phone service around here, right?

I mean, geez! You’re in Disneyworld and he didn’t even go! Get over it and and start enjoying the flipping magic already, ok? Honestly, why do people have to feel the need to ruin their evening with stuff like that? I felt so bad for the guy because he couldn’t win.

We got to the Poly and found out the Kona Café had just closed. There were a lot of people in the area next to O’hana watching the NBA finals. This was the night that the Magic lost the series and we were sad for them. Sorry to all you So Cal fans, but I hate the Lakers so we were rooting for the Magic. :)

We went to get the car and drove home. I forgot to say that we saw Wishes from the monorail so that was really neat. We got back to the condo and changed for bed. We turned on the TV to get Dylan to settle down and ended up watching some Spanish version of Funniest Home Videos. We couldn’t understand a word they were saying but all 3 of us were cracking up the whole time, and we watched the whole show. We didn’t even flip channels during the commercials (which were also in Spanish). We put Dylan to bed in the 2nd bedroom tonight at about 11:50 and we finally went to bed at 12:15 am. It was such a great end to our day and we fell asleep in our beautiful upgraded room as very happy campers.

Sounds like you really enjoyed your evening.

I love the description of meeting Mickey, super cute!

I love listening to the bickering people in Disney. It cracks me up but I agree..sometimes people take it just too far! :headache:

Awww!! I just love the pics of Dylan meeting Minnie and Mickey! That is just precious!! We ate at Pinnochio's Village Haus, too! I had pizza that was very good! IASW was Claire's favorite ride--it looks like it was a hit with Dylan, too!! Sooo cute! Sorry for the rudeness you had to endure--some people never seem to be happy unfortunately. And Sorry Kona Cafe was closed. Can't wait to read more!

Yay an update!! I love how amazed he looked on Small World...too cute! I can't believe how people can be rude or cranky in Disney World...it's just unacceptable. I'm glad you all enjoyed your first day and I can't wait to read more!

Some people act as though their rights trump everyone else's. It's sad, really.:sad2:

Don't you just want to bop some people (like the arguing couple) on the head and be like "it's the happiest place on earth, why aren't you smiling?!?!"

Def. subscribing! Your son is adorable, I have little cousins about his age and they are always doing/ saying something new! It makes for a fun life!

What a great night--mostly. The unexpected empty dining room while you were eating is always such a nice surprise. It always surprises me, in the middle of the crowds, you still can find a quiet nook to find peace and a bit of magic.

I like the unintentional eavesdropping. When it's quiet and people are having a "discussion", you can't help, but listen to the conversation.

The pictures of Dylan's face on IASW is the exact reason I feel there is no reason to wait "until the kids are older." He is experiencing new things and to watch your child have that kind of excitement is truly priceless.
Enjoying your report, can't wait to read more.

Loving the TR so far, Dylan is adorable! That's so awesome that your room got upgraded, especially since that's the same place we stayed on our last trip! I was looking at the photos and thought "Hey that condo looks familiar!". Our floor plan was the opposite of yours, but still it was The Fountains!

The Mickey and Minnie pictures are wonderful! It's so magical when they meet the characters!:goodvibes

If I had ridden IASW then I would say that it could've been me with the huge humidity hair! :lmao: This is why my hair was pulled back every single day of the trip!!

Can't wait to hear more!popcorn::

I love the description of meeting Mickey, super cute!

I love listening to the bickering people in Disney. It cracks me up but I agree..sometimes people take it just too far! :headache:

Yeah, people watching (& listening) is one of our favorite things at Disney. This couple wasn't trying to be quiet, so I don't feel bad about overhearing. At first it was funny, but then I just felt sorry for the guy because she just kept going. :sad2:

Awww!! I just love the pics of Dylan meeting Minnie and Mickey! That is just precious!! We ate at Pinnochio's Village Haus, too! I had pizza that was very good! IASW was probably one of his favorites. As a kid, how can you not love something that combines music, colors, kids and a boat ride? I think he was in awe. LOL

Yay an update!! I love how amazed he looked on Small World...too cute! I can't believe how people can be rude or cranky in Disney World...it's just unacceptable. I'm glad you all enjoyed your first day and I can't wait to read more!

I'm sure that sometimes people are rude because they are exhausted from their trip, you know? But there are some people that you can tell are just that way all the time. We had such a great time that night, so it was worth the wait!

Isn't that so lame of us? When I wrote up my TR that night, I made sure to write it down that we watched that show because I know we would forget it and it was pretty funny. I guess we are easily amused!

Once we actually got to the middle of Main Street, they had people directing you on how to get out of the park. We were able to jump into the shops as well. We were just trying to get to the street and there were people laying on the ground, and would get ticked if we said "excuse me". Not sure what we were supposed to do, you know?

Don't you just want to bop some people (like the arguing couple) on the head and be like "it's the happiest place on earth, why aren't you smiling?!?!"

Def. subscribing! Your son is adorable, I have little cousins about his age and they are always doing/ saying something new! It makes for a fun life!

Welcome! Yes, sometimes that is exactly the way I feel...just enjoy the moment. You've paid a lot of money to be there, enjoy it! I love the stage that Dylan is at right now. We laugh at him every day because he does & says such unexpected things.

I was shocked to find that room totally empty, and then we found the table by the window. Dylan had such a great time waving at the boats and it was so sweet watching people wave back to him.

That couple was so weird because we are totally stopped on the tracks in the middle of nowhere and we are all listening to the updates, and they are having this discussion. She was obviously annoyed and he was trying to pacify her, but she wasn't buying it. I felt bad for the guy.

The pictures of Dylan's face on IASW is the exact reason I feel there is no reason to wait "until the kids are older." He is experiencing new things and to watch your child have that kind of excitement is truly priceless.
Enjoying your report, can't wait to read more.

Thanks for stopping by! I agree. The moments are priceless. It's almost like you can see them trying to process what is going on in their brain. It's almost like he finally just gives up thinking about it and just enjoys it. :)

Welcome! Really? When did you stay there? Had it been remodeled by the time you stayed there? We really like that resort. I think we will probably always try to stay there unless we are able to stay on property some time. Especially now that they are updating the whole resort.

The Mickey and Minnie pictures are wonderful! It's so magical when they meet the characters!:goodvibes

If I had ridden IASW then I would say that it could've been me with the huge humidity hair! :lmao: This is why my hair was pulled back every single day of the trip!!

Can't wait to hear more!popcorn::

I wish he wouldn't have been so nervous around them. He definitely warmed up to the characters as the week went on. It's too bad we didn't get to visit Mickey again. LOL on the humidity hair! My hair was pulled back almost every day for the rest of the trip. It was just too hot to leave it down and my hair is slightly wavy so I know it could have gone south on me quickly!
