arrival time and departure time ends up being the same. The only difference is skipping the 16 hour drive.

This is the cheapest the flights have been in the 3 month planning. We leave Friday of next week.

I flew for the first time in my life for our first trip to WDW in April. I am so spoiled now. I hope to NEVER make a trip driving again!! We have 4 kids and for us to have to drive the 15 hours to WDW, would have been awful. We took a 2 hour flight at $128 per ticket each way. Although it cost more to fly, it was totally worth it.

I would suggest flying if children are going. It's alot easier on them!

We usually fly to Disney, but drove once (last minute trip---22 hours driving). The drive was fine...actually my kids had so much fun they want to drive instead of fly. We probably will be flying on our next trip. We always rent a car while at Disney...I think their transportation can be an awfully long wait...so if we fly (5 of us) it is also another $300-$400 for a minivan rental.

How tight is money? How tight is your time?.............let me explain............

I see that you guys have been staying at nice places your last few visits.......is the extra cost going to really mess up your short term finances?

For us, one of the factors we consider is............Will my next day be a normal workday for me? (ie---got to get up early and go to work therfore leaving all the travel stuff in a big pile on the floor). It can be no fun getting home after an 8 hour day and still have to deal with unpacking. It seems it takes 2 whole nights to unpack and do the laundry.

If you have at least one "off" day before going to work, then that would give you a little breathing room. If you need to be refreshed when you get up for work the next morning, then fly.

No need answer the questions here.............just be thankful you did not pose this question on the Budget Board :tiptoe: We would have told you to save the dough.................hands down!

time is not an issue. we always bookend our vacations with an extra day on each end. Nothing like getting home from vacation more tired than when you left.

Money is not an issue, except that i am the biggest tight wad i know.

Bottom line, is we save about 24 hours of travel time by flying for the $600. $25 an hour. Normally, i would say, my time is worth much more than $25 a hour, but in this case, it is over night time.

LOL. I am acting like some people on these boards I tend to make fun of. I guess Karma is comming back at me.

How are you calculating your drive costs? Are you calculating just hotel and gas or are you calculating in wear and tear and using a per mile rate that loads that into consideration?

I'm not a big fan of driving, it's safer to fly and the time convenience from where NY to Orlando cannot be beat.

Fly...16 hours is actual driving time from where I live, not including stops, snacks/food, etc. It's two 8 hr days, two 8 hr days I'd never get back. You'll not regret it, but you may regret getting back in the car after your Disney vacation thinking, crap, I have to drive 16 hours back home!

Just factoring time. I am a car freak. And an extra 2,100 mile son a car is insignificant in the 100,000 mile life (or time i keep) a car.

We have driven 15 times and flown 15 times. Thats part of my problem here. It's no big deal either way.

I don't even waste the time to price it out. I book airfare. Our drive is 14 hours each way. We have done it in the past when I was a SAHM, but now I would stay home before I drive. Good luck with your decision and have a great trip.

That says it all. If it's pretty much all the same to you - take the less expensive option and spend the money on something else.

Absolutely. We're driving this year (22+hrs each way). But then my DH says I'm so cheap I make Scrooge McDuck look like a spendthrift playboy:rotfl:

Wow... That was so simple. Thanks

I passed on the tix. Drive it is. This time next week I will be 4 hours into a 17 hour drive. We leave st. Louis at 5pm and arrive at wow around 10 am

I'm jealous. Our trip was wonderful, but it's over. It will be a few years before we go back. We have other things planned for the next few vacations! Drive safe!
