So yesterday was the 95th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic!!
I find the history of the Titanic completely enthralling, and I just thought that I would share with you guys that it has been 95 years!

There are two survivors left, both were babies when the ship sank.

* Barbara Joyce Dainton (née West) (born 24 May 1911)

*Elizabeth Gladys Dean (born 2 February 1912)

Brief history;
left port 12:00pm April 11 1912
struck ice berg @ 11:40pm April 14 1912
sunk 2:02am April 15 1912

I have a completely eerie feeling right now, because I watched half of the movie this morning (on my drive home from Montreal) without even THINKING that it was the anniversary (i completely forgot!) I can't watch the rest.
I really cannot help but cry when I think of what happened, Since I've become interested in the Titanic (when I saw the movie when I was like..9)I've always try to take a second on April 15 to pray for the lost souls.
EVen when I was 9 years old I understood the tragedy of what happened.

I've always had an odd attraction to the diasaster.
I'm going to see an exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre later this month with artifacts and stuff recovered from the wreck.
I'm very excited.

AAANYWAYS, I just figured I'd post this, raise some discussion about the Titanic, and it's NINETY FIFTH anniversary

Wow, I had no idea it was the 95th anniversary. I love that movie, and the history behind the whole event is wonderful, I still can't beleive something like that happened, but I know it did. Only 2 survivors left....wow, but they hardly remember that, I always wanted to sit down with someone whow as there and talk to them about it....The story is fascinating yet scary at the same time.

I found some really interesting interviews for the 1950's from people who survived.
If I find them again I'll post them.
THere's a bunch of transcripts out there on google, but the videos were really cool to watch.

here's an interesting site about the movie vs real life

My dad told me this today. I couldn't believe it. It happened so long ago, yet the disaster still continues to remain inked into our minds.

It's so sad. And, sometimes, I think that if you asked 10 random people what happened on April 15th 1912, maybe two would say the Titanic sank.
And I feel horrible for my friend: her birthday's April 15th! (obviously not 1912 though)

Now that I think about it, I wonder if anyone's actual birthday was April 15th 1912. That would be really eerie...

I'm sure there were people who were born on that day.
Just like there were people born on 09/11/01.
Must suck to be born on a day when a tragedy happens.

Yeah no one really knows much about TItanic I don' think. You don't hear much about it, unless you do some recearch.
You've gotta be interested in it to learn any of the facts.

I'm really interested in it for some reason. I literally have some weird attarction, or connection to it. I cried for a really long time on April 15 just thinking about it. I can't imagine what a horrifying expirience it must've been to get on one of the lifeboats knowing you would probably never see your father/husband/brother again. Or just Bobbing around in the freezing cold water waiting for someone to come help you. Scary

I Can't wait to go to that exhibit at the Science Centre about it.
I'll probably end up making a fool out of myself and crying in public.

Wow, that's just so eerie to see
All those dead people and the history of what happened...
They have a Titanic Exhibit at the Tropicana where I live (Vegas) and they have actual recovered pieces of dishes and clothes and bunch of other things. They also showed what the 1st 2nd and 3rd class cabins looked like...weird I tell ya

i wish there would've have been something like a memorial in the paper yesterday for it i know in the houston chronicle there was nothing it just kind of depressing that some people have forgotten about the titanic. .im glad someone started this about the titanic

They are making those special quarters for the 100th anniversary I hear....but that's not for another 5 years.
I know they do a memorial service every year at Southhampton Harbour in England/
I would looooove to go for the 100th anniversary!
Maybe I will...I'll be 22 by then, I can travel on my own :goodvibes
