Yea: Stop and pick me up at the Delaware line.:worship:

At that time you will sit in traffic here in Delaware at the 95/495/295 merge it usually clears out after 7pm. There is road construction at the 95/695 ramps north of Baltimore and at the Woodrow Wilson bridge in Washington at the Virginia Maryland line after that you should be OK until you get to Jacksonville Florida Use the bypass and go around. Don't forget to get on !-4 at exit 260 in Florida. Try not to get into Orlando at rush hour.

Stop at the Welcome to Florida rest area for your free OJ and Disney World brochures (keeps the kid busy for a while)

Stop at a Flying J Travel plaza and pick the book The Next Exit It lists whats at every interstate exit--fuel stops and restaurants and stores within about 1 mile of the interstate ramp it is a must have for anyone traveling on the US interstate system.
The closest Flying J's are in NJ on 295 exit 2C and in Maryland at exit 100 there website even list the daily gas prices http://www.flyingj.com

You'll pick up I-4 at Daytona Beach for the final approach into Orlando. If you arrive into the Sanford area at 3:45pm or later, take the TOLL 417 eastern beltway around Orlando. Staying on I-4 would put you into downtown and attractions-area gridlock around 4pm. If you arrive earlier than that (except for morning rush hour), you should be ok staying on I-4.

BobK/Orlando

As you pass through Maryland, you'll encounter construction almost all the way through Baltimore. At the time you'll be passing through, there will most likely be no bacups, so just keep left and watch out for other drivers.

And check out the "For 2,000+ mile round trip drivers only!" thread!

Bless your heart, I hope you have a safe trip! How long will it take you?

Thank you. :)
We have been doing this drive for 15 + years. We should be there give or take around 9 am. We only stop 3 times for gas. We have 3 drivers which is good. Can't wait .

I saw someone mention the flyingj exit guide. I've browsed through it, but here's what we use:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/Transportation/V-I95.htm

From Va to Florida, there's a guide for each state you can print out and bring along. Save you some money and it's a GOD SEND to have with you!

Alternately, if you have a web enabled phone, you could just browse to the site and get it all from there.

I have that in a binder that I printed put years ago. Thank you :thumbsup2

Heh heh..great minds think alike.

We have it in a binder, too....I don't think it EVER leaves our van, actually. You know...just in case we're driving down the road to the grocery store and suddenly decide we need to drive 1200 miles due south to WDW. :)

Actually, it DOES leave the van....for about 45 minutes the day before we drive down. JUST in case there's been updates, I can check and reprint, if necessary.

Have a great trip! And remember to wave "Hi" to Pedro on your way down....the big trip milestone that is "South of the Border".

This is a good site for exit info also - http://www.i95exitguide.com/

Advice for Delaware is take I-495 down past Wilmington, stay in the left lane then get all the way over in the left once you get past the I-295 merge. If you have easy pass, just stay over there the whole way down otherwise once you get past the Rt273 exits you can move back over towards the middle or right.

The additional of a 5th lane on I-95 has helped improve traffic through the merges and past Rt 1 going southbound.

Thank you for the info.

If you stop at south of the border. Do it in the daylight. It's kind of a seedy place.

Some clarification for Jacksonville FL, as you approach the airport there are three routes South, 95 through town, 295 West of town, and 9A East of town.

I prefer 9A (which is soon to be renumbered to 295) but if it is a really quiet time 95 is probably as good.

As you approach Sanford 417 is a good (although not cheap) alternative to I-4, which I pretty much refuse to drive anymore.
